I've always been happy with Norton. Cheap and simple. What would people recommend as an alternative if Norton is so bad?

They are hoping that you will FORGET to opt out or cancel your renewal after the 12 month paid subscription is up so they can take your money for the next 12 months and make you jump through hoops for a refund if you dont want to continue with their service.

They WILL punish you for asking for a refund. Otherwise there is no reason why they would make you agree to auto-renewing before activating your key.

Is it cheap? yes. Should you buy it? No.

Do not support this shady business practise. Not that Norton is any good for that matter. (edited)

Agreed! Wouldn't touch Norton with a bargepole! You can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave!
