Can someone experienced explain what this does for a person who's not used a launcher thing before?
I just have my homescreen and moved my apps that I use there really /swipe right to the 2nd screen for other apps

It allows more customisation, like you can have the app tiles as small or big as you want them, can get rid of the news thing on the left home screen and have as many pages of home screens as you want, can use gestures to open your most used apps, can hide installed apps from the main folder so you don't have to have shortcuts on the homescreen and a double in the list of apps.

Hope that all makes sense, that's the main things I used it for.

Nova was the best launcher by far. UNTIL, they were bought by a data tracking company called branch.

So I gave it up after years and years of use, in favour of Niagra Launcher.

So here is my own list comparing it to samsung one ui 5

Custom tabs in app drawer

Rename any app.

Hide any app from the app drawer. Probably the simplest and yet most useful feature. We don't need o icons there for settings, device care, phone, swiftkey, Samsung messages, Samsung free and so on.

Resizing widgets works in two ways. Allows to resize it without changing its look

Stacking icons on widgets (some widgets have a lot wasted space), even widget on widgets.

Ability to add shortcut to any activity (example shortcut to app booster)

Search bar shows installed apps instantly, not like Samsung.

Gestures like" tap to slide down" for recent apps so I don't need to reach very bottom corner of the screen

A lot of customizations.
You can change almost anything.
Super large or tiny icons, bigger/smaller names, rounded or square,
Search bar with extra icons or not?

Basically.

Obviously you're using custom degoogled Rom compiled by yourself, never touched Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, reddit... Hotukdeals.
Running pi-hole/adguard, custom DNS, ublock origin with custom lists.

Your PC/laptop is running Linux and you never touched windows in your lifetime.

Obviously you don't have any android TV at home neither Google/Alexa speaker.

I'm so glad that everyone takes security so seriously.

I don't really get what you're all excited about here.......so you have a phone/tablet, with an icon, that errr launches an app BUT for some crazy reason you want a different 'launcher' that errrr launches an app????

Basically it provides a lot of customisation on your phone. So you can make your homepage have custom fonts, size of those fines, how you want your search widget, Dock size, etc.

Was extremely useful back in the day when those features weren't baked in. Nowadays the default manufacturers launcher is pretty good.

There are many more customisations like vertical app drawer so it lists apps rather than horizontal scrolling, resize icons, remove icon text, change icon grid settings to fit more / less icons on your home screen. Advanced gestures where swipe down from anywhere pulls the notification bar down, remove icons from notification bar, hide notification bar. Loads of stuff I actively use and this is THE best launcher which I have been using since I started using androids back in 2015

Maybe good 5 years ago but fairly redundant now. Current launchers are perfectly fine in comparison. I have this in my library but wouldn't bother installing it in this day and age.

Because they all just copied nova functionality.

Nova was the standard, anything else is just trying to get close to it.

Double tap to lock was available for years. Some phones still don't have it.

Turn off pointless animations.

Tabs in app drawer

Resize widget to any size you want.

Plus is a lot smother than Samsung launcher.... On Samsung phone (edited)

You do know that different manufacturers have different UIs don't you?

Android is the OS. The various UIs are just skins that give a different experience.

There isn't one single android UI - some are still pretty horrible.

Best launcher I've seen for Iphone is that plastic handle that normally holds a tennis ball for dogs. You can get at least 30 feet !

The great thing about Nova is that you can back up your exact home screens layout and transfer them to other phones, which is so useful when you've spent time setting up everything just the way you like it and you have to get a new phone.
