The XFX one has a great cooler, much more powerful and quieter than the standard one. Please bear in mind though that the trade off is a double height cooler requiring two slots in your case. These things just keep getting cheaper, great for the gamer on a budget :)Select the 3-4 day £0.00 shipping option for this price.

Obviously same great price so heat added !

Nice! Buy 2 and Xfire them !

7.1LPCM via hdmi?

In the specifications it says

HDMI over Dvi HDMI with 5.1 surround sound audio

bit worried about that bit. i thought all 4xxx series did 7.1 LPCM, but reading that i lost my confidence....

7.1LPCM via hdmi?

Think only one high end sound card currently offers that (think it is an Xonar). Support for that is apparently not great too.

They all "could" do it. There is an uphill battle though between the licensers, the codec creators, the playback software companies and the hardware vendors.

your right there is a limit to 48khz/16bit audio,

hi, i have a 512mb ddr3 ati 1900xt on board my pc...can someone tell me the improvement to my system buying this card please ?
ps, i don't play gaming, i mostly watch streaming of footie & horse racing thanks.

For this price you' be crazy to miss out I just ordered mine. Basically the card makes out at £59 when you take away worth of the game: GRID! So its a super duper deal. But is already posted.

hotukdeals.com/ite…-71

But the price hasnt been updated. Does it count as expired?

the 4xxx series does offer 7.1 LPCM sound via HDMI using the correct adapter.

Performance wise exactly the same but that has a better cooler which would be a bit quieter but also enable you to overclock better ,

Stunning deal. Ordered. Many thanks.

What improvements would having a 1gb of this bring? Infact what do the sizes mean?

More memory on a graphics card generally means better performace, and more specifically at higher resolutions. As a rule of thumb, if you play games above 1650x1080 I would reccomend getting a card with a 1+ gigs of ram.
If you bought 2 of these cards, you can put them together (called Xfire , or crossfire) to give you increased performace in games (mostly improved framerates), if your motherborad supports it and you have a beefy enough power supply..

I dont see the point of crossfire. It has problems sometimes with games and new cards are coming out all the time which will perform better and more efficiently. Get one of these cards now while it last. If you really need it. If you have an alright card. I suggest you wait till the new cards Dx11 come out.

Any idea what power supply I would need to power this?

Crossfire has got a lot better in the past couple of years. Most modern games support it, or don't have an issue with it.

Two Radeon HD 4850s in CrossFire mode will beat the dual-GPU GeForce 9800 GX2—and even put the hurt on the new, more expensive GeForce GTX 285.

Still its best to save your money and get the new dx11 cards when they comeout. This card will keep you on for a while so its a good investment at the moment especially at this price.

Lets face it, there's allways a new graphics card on the horizon. Buy a new graphics card if you find your current one can't perform with the games you play, not when a new one come out!

Ordered one.. couldn't resist..

these ati cards are great from the home theatre pc, got mine connected via hdmi to lcd tv, and use media player classic home cinema edition, and use DVXA hardware assist, 1080p movies now use about 5% cpu of my amd 2.4 x2. its great

The problem is that these GPUs consume a lot more power at idle than a HD 4670 so they aren't ideal for a HTPC unless you really need the extra gaming performance.

Well said and DX11 cards aren't due until Q4 probably.

This card looks like its faster than the 4850 looking at toms hardware benchmark charts. Something around 10%-20% but it's going to vary between games.

I'd ignore the wattage of PSU's and instead look at the AMP's it can deliver on the 12volt rail/s. You can buy 700watt PSU's that will be hopeless up against a 400watt psu with great amperage on the 12volt rail/s. If the AMP's aren't listed for a PSU you're looking at, I wouldn't touch it.

Grid is awesome and very playable on the keyboard.

For a media center PC, this seems to be overkill, you really don't need this much grunt to render video. I've got a media PC in the living room thats running a card a fraction of this ones speed, passively cooled and it handles everything you can throw at it video wise with no heavy cpu overhead.

Looking at how badly DX10 has done, I think we can safely hang on for a few more years at least before DX11 becomes something you really need.

Great price for the card though, if I was looking for one for gaming, I'd be very tempted.

Thanks, just what I needed to drive my second 22" monitor

cheers op! voted hot.

I completely agree. If your card performs well for the games you play don't bother upgrading.
Q4 is just around the corner. If you are a max graphics hardcore gamer you would want a dx11 card. So save your money now. Buy this if you are mainstream gamer like me. Its a steal :-D

I got myself one of these a few days ago when they first dropped to £68.99.

I went for the free shipping option but still got the card the following day.

The card I received was a HIS HD 4850 FAN, here's a link:

hisdigital.com/un/…tml

It seems to be an oem part, not retail boxed (it came in an inside-out motherboard box!) , with just a molex to pci-e converter and the game in a paper sleeve. At least the card was sealed and seemed to be brand new.

I'm very happy with the card by the way, a real bargain for the money!!

I'd be more comfortable knowing what make was being purchased prior to paying for it XFX is picutured.....

As I said in my previous post, the make is HIS. I assumd I was going to get an XFX card but that obviously wasn't the case!!

Am pretty sure it is a XFX. I was talking to novatech and they clearly said it was a xfx when i gave them the order number. I hope its the XFX

Well I'm 100% sure the one I was sent was manufactured by HIS! Absolutely nothing to do with XFX, even though the card shown on the website was an XFX model!

Please let us now what card they send you, thanks.

When I get mine, I'll post detail on what make it is too..

I've found if it's a 'Novatech' branded product on the website, they will send you anything from a XFX to a HIS to a Palit or something else. One doesn't really have a choice what they'll end up with, so don't go by the manufacturer or looks of the card, but more for it's clock speed, quietness & included accessories.

ordered , hope i get a XFX

nusler;5791440

Any particular reason please? XFX cards are usually the noisiest - is this a quieter one?
