it's sad that the people working there actually loose their jobs on Christmas eve

Very sad. People who work in shops like Borders or record shops tend to be more interested and enthusiastic about what they’re selling than the average Asda employee, so I hope they can find new employment in the same sector.

Best of luck Guys, and thanks for remaining cheerful under trying circumstances these last few weeks!

Be wary that a few publishers got a court order prohibiting their books to be sold at such a low price.
The Southampton store i went to have so many books left that it's not feasible for the staff to search through the shelves to take these books off from sale, and as such they take them off you at the checkout.
So don't be surprised if you're not allowed the books you spent hours searching, and queuing at the tills for.

Sad Sad Sad, All the best if you are about to be jobless!

Not just at borders but any any job!

Merry Christmas!

I managed to get 2 x Elonex Ereaders yesterday and a stack of Blurays that staff reserved in my local by smooth talking the sales assistant first.

The Ereaders worked out at £34 each and the blurays at £3 each. See the otheer thread.

I'm a happy Monkey this Christmas.

BTW, the 2nd ereader is for the wife so she doesn't touch mine.

Anyone know if the Charing Cross Road store is open and has BR stock?

So you've posted twice in two threads about your bargain but have never actually stated which store you bought the goods in, top forumming

I'm surprised this didn't get hotter ... I went to Swansea store today and bought 27 items (books and CDs) for £15.71 with an RRP of £250+!

Thanks to saxo_appeal, expiry date now amended from 22nd to 23rd December as they have received an email stating that some stores aren't closing until today

I would check before you travel as some stores closed yesterday

70% off Magazines, 30% off Calendars, 90% off books

Top floor in Glasgow Fort totally bare last nite (i.e. Bluray/Games/EReaders)

TBF only tat left

Nothing left yesterday at Cheshire Oaks.

How do you know if anywhere is still open??

the STV news last night said that all the Scottish stores closed last night at midnight.

Leeds closed yesterday (well, it said last day today yesterday), all that remained was literally one cardboard box of books and some back issue magazines.

And all the calendars that were only 20% off.

went to the borders just off oxford street in search of good books and a few blu rays. all the blu rays had gone and the two books that i had picked up were both withdrawn at the till. so what did i end up buying? a bookmark for 26p.

good luck to those out of a job. dont let it ruin a jolly xmas!

Girl @ Till said today was her last day (and Fort closed @ 10 last night)

Was in the Southampton store yesterday and surprised that they still had so many books left - I bought a lot of fiction for around 70p each. There were also a handful of DVDs left - I got The Big Chill and The Defiant Ones for 59p, A League of Their Own for 39p and Barney (80s CBBC show) for 29p.

Think yesterday was the last day though

Does anybody know if the preston one is open todday?

in fact is anything open in Preston today?

Norwich one closed yesterday, they didn't have much left and the best books are returned to the publisher

90% off all books made for some good deals last night at Bmth store. not a great deal left but there were books to be had if you had the patience and plenty of tills open so queuing wasnt a problem.

Thamks OP for posting this as I wouldn't have known about thi otherwise. I went to Teesside Park yesterday and got £400 of books and cds for £40, only had two books refused.

Any stores in London still open? with Blu-ray stocked?

Chances of finding any BD discs with 90% off absolutely zero I would think. My local store looked like it had been raided by Vikings two days ago.

Was in the Inverness store last night at 7pm when they announced that all books were now TEN PENCE!

I picked up 83 books which at the marked prices were worth over £1000 for £8.30! :-D Unreal really!

83 books - I'm surprised you didn't rupture something!

a little heads up, called the brent cross store and they are closing at 1pm today. off now to blindly grab what i can.

So there is no point in going to cheshire oakes?

It's about a 45 min journey and I dont want to go if there's jack all there! or it's closed!

And the continued pace of liberation of the employment sector fastens. It's gonna be blood on the streets post-Crimbo with all those temp jobs gone and the sharp decline in sales with VAT increases and people already exhausting their discretionary spending in the previous months.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! The recessions over....

Just remember British-Chavs, when you're unemployed and broke and nothing better to do, tear down your political institutions.

As prophecised Babylon the Great ***** (America, seal of an eagle) and the mother that gave birth to it (UK, seal of the lion) will be nations in vast decline, don't worry the one-eyed Anti-Christ will save you guys, you are after all effectively Anti-Christ nations.

Jesus preached not to borrow, only as a last resort, since borrowing is debt and debt is economic bondage. He came to kick to rid usury off the earth by kicking the money changers out of the temple, not allow them to openly practise their filth in financial centres around the world, preached austerity in buying goods, not a consumerist lifestyle. Preached a simple life, not attachment to base things. And half the worlds nations do exactly the opposite!

MERRY CRIMBO!!

The London Charing Cross Rd branch closed at 1pm. I was in it.

This started so promisingly......

I dont have a problem with religion, the only time i do is when someone tries ramming it down others throats. I suggest you go preach elsewhere....

Back on topic - I hope that those that loose their jobs rapidly gain worthwhile employment elsewhere...

As with this post, I don't come back to it on a regular basis so IF someone wants to ask a question, IM me.

FYI, it was Kingston Upon Thames store and I was letting people know what was available when you ask at the counter. One member of staff said they were reserved for staff. Another person said they would sell it to me.

Just to update Kingston park (wallsend) and Team Valley closed yesterday! (North East!)

Good luck to all those who were employed by Borders, hope you find future employment really soon!
