Start living in the future with the voice-controlled Google Home Mini smart speaker. The virtual assistant is capable of all sorts, so you can set reminders so you don’t forget your anniversary, and then ask for recipe suggestions when you’re struggling for ideas for a romantic meal. It’ll stream music from your favourite services too - just ask for a bit of northern soul and it’ll start playing. Plus, if you connect to your smart home devices, you can turn down the lights with a simple voice command. It will recognise up to 6 users, so just be careful no-one interrupts with some heavy metal.

  • Voice-controlled WiFi speaker for your home
  • Ask questions, set diary reminders or get news updates
  • Play music from popular streaming services
  • Control other smart devices in your home
  • Works with up to 6 users with personalised settings

How do you set up a Google home?

Here's how to set it up.

Plug in your Google Home
Tap the setup icon in the upper right-hand corner
Link your music service
Step through the tutorial
Tap the left-hand menu button, then More Settings.
Change your news and My Day settings.
Change what the Google Home calls you
Enter your commute locations

2827535.jpg
Thanks to being compatible with a whole host of smart home devices, you can take command of everything from your lights to your television. Once you’ve connected the speaker and your compatible devices to your WiFi, you can synchronise them, allowing you to activate them all with a simple voice command. So just ask it to turn down the lights, turn up the heating and settle down for a movie marathon without having to leave your seat.

2827535.jpg
Thanks to the music features, fiddling with CDs or stereos are a thing of the past. Pair the speaker with your music streaming service and you can listen to whatever tickles your fancy. Tell it to play some blues for a chilled out evening in the week, or a party playlist at the weekend. If you find something new, you can ask what’s playing and then request that artist by name. You can adjust the volume, skip tracks, and pause playback with voice commands too, giving you complete control over your tunes.

2827535.jpg
Your speaker is not just for listening to music or reminding you of your mother’s birthday. The more questions you ask the more features you’ll discover. Greet it with a hello in the morning and it might furnish you with the day’s headlines. Ask it to tell you a joke or sing you a song and you’ll get a free - if slightly bizarre - show. There’s a mountain of possibilities, so start firing away and see what else your virtual assistant has hidden up its sleeves.

OP if this is true i'll be very happy!! After Home and 2 minis. Will be up bright and early to check. Thanks for the heads up.

One home mini just for me

Since this is a heads up , shouldn't it be in misc until proof is provided ?

vassy11 m ago

Any glitch?

The Google Home will be £45.55

I'm with you. I don't need but I want and I couldn't tell you why...

do I really need more ? and at this price should I just get another home rather than a mini /?

also happens to be pay day for me tomorrow! they'll be getting some business if this price is correct - just not sure how many/what types I want...

Tried a Google Mini but still prefer Amazons Alexa... Partially because it feels more natural to say "Alexa!" than "O.K Google!", and it was easier to tell Alexa to play my uploaded music than Google (I was hoping to play my larger Google Play library but it only likes the paid subscription). Looking at trading in my Mini and getting a proper Echo next week...

Great price if you prefer the Google option, though

Where's the proof of this?

Can i post a deal saying AO will be selling Xbox One X for a tenner next week?

Interesting, I didn't know it had it's own speaker. That makes it slightly more interesting just to see what is like cheaply. Would still be nice if it could be output elsewhere though.

I just asked Alexa if I should get one and she cried!

How about the Tesco heads up that didn't materialise ?

Thanks for the heads up. Now how many Home Minis should I buy?

Chanchi has posted some if the best deals of all time on this website. I'm more than happy to take this at face value.

As an owner of 3 homes, 2 Echo dots and one mini my advice would be don’t buy the mini. I’ve found it unresponsive compared to both echo dot and home. In addition I’ve got it setup to cast to my chromecast audio for Spotify but you can’t change the volume on you phone if you do that. By contract echo dot with Bluetooth speaker and Spotify connect is a great combination or the home is a pretty decent speaker in its own right and fills a small room fine and doesn’t distort up to 6 out of 10 volume. Echo and mini not good buys having used all and home and echo dot are.

In general plus point of google are you can upload your music to google music for free and stream that to google home without needing a premium subscription to either google music or Spotify. It is also light years in from in terms of answering questions. Home is a good stereo speaker too (echo only mono).

Plus points of echo dot for me is that you can pair it with a decent Bluetooth speaker (I don’t use the 3.5mm as you need to leave speaker on all the time to hear dot otherwise) and you can connect to iCloud, Microsoft office 365 and google. This means I’d like me your employer uses Microsoft outlook And you use both google and iCloud you can find out all your calendar but google is only google.

My advice is buy a google home and an echo dot!

I think possibly not, but I don't know for certain. I've just had a quick scan of their website, would be best to double check.

Even more reason to be suspicious. Not a single one of their posts has gone less than "hot".

Unsubstantiated deals being posted would usually be removed, no?

Yes. I bought a mini. It’s not very good. Got 3 homes. They are brilliant. Main issue is the mini just seems to have much worst speech acknowledgment for me.

No. Only chromecast. See my long post for limitations of that vs echo dot and Bluetooth speaker and the home itself.

Sorry! By one home instead you’ll enjoy it more and because it’s a pretty decent speaker just saying play Spotify is a joy! Also it now supports Bluetooth in so you can pair you phone with it. I do this to play audiobooks from my iPhone on the one I have by the bed.

Just noticed I can’t spell post football

Tomorrow HUKD will be flooded with Google Home & Amazon Echo offers.

Great price if this goes live - it's one of the Christmas presents I'm intending to buy on Black Friday and this is exactly the right price I'd have hoped for!
