65 for 2TB is not really a deal

My wife tells me this all the time, however, her bedside table draw begs to differ!

Need one of these for the xbox. Noob question - once it has been formatted by the xbox can it then be used to store films on from a freeview recorder for example?

I presume the 1TB will come down too?

My 2TB xbox portable hard drive is 95% filled up, hopefully they will have a good offer for 4TB drives

No you’ll only be able to use it with the Xbox

The Xbox will ask if its to be formatted for Games OR media. If its used for games then it wont be usuable for anything else until its reformatted. Using it for media is a standard formatting and would be usuable on other devices.

For getting general storage, are the powered 3.5in externals more robust/reliable? Or are both sizes similar in that respect and it's a portability choice?

i swear i purchased the WD 4tb for 100 last time round , amazon deal i think

but i like the metal one

I have a few 3TB versions of these drives, one has been serving up media in my house for 2 years (always on), it has 17299 hours uptime and its never missed a beat.

The metal looking ones are louder than the other version.

FYI - They have stopped making them now which sucks.

Is there any hard drive that can be attached to a freeview recorder? I didn't think it was possible.

As others mentioned,£65 for just 2TB is not a deal at all.
I bought 2TB WD for £55 (which was a great deal and I found it here) and they routinely go for £60ish so I can't see how £65 can be a great deal??

If happy to go down that route then check out Amazon Warehouse deals for portable drives. A few good deals on their a couple of days ago when 20% discount came up at midnight.

“Free case” I should bloody hope so tbh.

3TB metal edition is showing as £129, in black

I bough the £55 pound one although there are different models which might account for the price differential

Thanks but no thanks. Cold

There are no deals here. Standard prices for a 2TB drive for months

Naysayers take a look at the £99.99 4tb recertified my cloud. Just bought one. they've been out of stock for the last few days. Hot.

I've bought a couple of these in the last year or so. What sets them apart from most is the hardware 256bit encryption which was a necessity for me as I work in financial services so need robust security for mobile data storage. I bought mine from Currys pcworld though because their 'exclusive version of these drives came with 5yr warranty, rather than the normal 2yr.

Interesting!.

Are the Portable WD HDD's that you bought with 256BIT hardware encryption still about?, or ...

And how much did you buy your lot for too, etc?, thanx. :-)

Note to self:

The 4TB Portable WD Hard Drive's are currently CHEAPER at Curry's/PCWorld as we speak?, so ...

£100, as opposed to that of almost £140 for the EXACT same thing! (and via WD's own website as well, etc?).

Do the maths?.

The new version drives are 3yrs WD warranty. Different enclosure design, not sure about the internals spec. Similar price to the WD My passport ultra drives at Currys now.

Where have you seen the 5yr warranty? On the Curry's PC World website it states a 3yr warranty?
