Dropped off Tesco plannogram for the new Now TV stick and reduced to clear nationally. Got one myself the last one since my Virgin TV is now pulled. Great with its Freeview tuner, I’ll use the TV ‘smart’ features for Amazon Prime Video /Netflix now (Netflix coming to Now TV 2018).

I’ve cancelled my Sky TV and I’m trying to get all my streaming apps in one place and easily accessible...What with this and configuring my new NAS I’m thinking of buying a hair shirt and being done with... I’m pretty sure you can’t on these. Certainly can on a fire stick

Thanks for replying, I Must have deleted the comment just as you answered, it looks like Sky forced through an update and removed the developer mode. ~sigh~
Will be grabbing one if there is any. Cheers.virgin can do one now they have dropped all the channels I watched!

If you want Kodi you need a fire TV device, if you want all the apps on one device you need a Roku stick.
On the Roku you can use media server apps such as Emby or Plex as an alternative to Kodi.
B and m were selling these recently with exact same pass for £15. I think now tv boxes are now dead to be honest

Plex would be good, thanks for the info, Roku stick it is. ^_^
Beware the Freeview implementation is poor - Pause but no Record, no direct channel number entry (that's a lot of up arrow to get to 100), no 7-day EPG (now/next only).

Aggressive pricing by Sky, that's why you see cheap boxes. Priced at a steal to get it into homes, that's why Now TV has 1.5million subscribers and was one of the fastest growing subscription service of 2017.

Definitely not dead!

wow no direct channel select? that's a massive oversight for freeview! - all to save having numbered buttons on the remote.

The biggest annoyance for me is the volume controls - You have to use now tv remote to change channels, but you ordinary tv remote to adjust the volume!!!!!!

I’m ok with that, the annoyance was switching between Freeview and Roku, given I’m freeview lite with 13 channels I only use the TV remote for app access to Amazon Prime Video. Volume & Amazon PV ‘smart’ app.

Their aggressive pricing backfired in my regard. I cancelled my expensive Sky TV contact for Entertainment, Sport and Movies, and now pay them a faction of what I use to (£5 or less a month for Now TV Entertainment passes, £50 (or £40) a year for Now TV Sports passes (for 3/4 golf majors and Ryder/Solheim Cup) and nothing for Movies (I get one free month via McDonalds Monopoly each year, and binge watch all the film that have been added in the last year). I would have carried paying £50 odd a month, if Now TV wasn't introdiced !

Cheaper for them to make you pay for the broadcast line - broadband. Satellite broadcasting ain’t cheap (but with millions of accounts it’s negligible now).

Now will still be making Sky cash by the bucket or they have pulled it by now, everyone is streaming, even Sky boxes are capable of broadband streaming and downloads.

Sky don't get anything more from me. I've got a good broadband deal from BT, who I also get BT Sport from (currently paying £5 a month on average).

Sky get enough from you to profit, that’s all they care for, companies.

and I get what I want at a great price, so it's win, win, with me saving about £550-£600 a year and still getting everything I want to watch.
