NOW TV Box: don't auto-renew & maybe get Sky Movies Pass @ £6.99/m for 4 months instead of £8.99

Got a NOW TV Box at £9.99 less straight £2 purchase £back to use over Xmas as cheap source of Pixar/Disney/Movies with its bundled 30-days free trial of Sky Movies on it (usually £8.99/m anyway).

Today went to cancel the subscription that would have started after the 30 day trial period and before reaching the final cancellation screen, got offered Movies at £6.99/m for upto 4 months

Mentioning it here in case anyone is HAPPY with their Now TV Movies trial and intended to pay the £8.99/m PERHAPS to meet the requirements for a larger £back that required a paid sub...

(From their wording not everyone will be offered the discount, but seems likely most would be.)

T&Cs said: "* Sky Movies Pass Offer: For NOW TV customers who are presented with this offer on nowtv.com. You will be billed £6.99 a month during the 4 month term of this offer. The first payment of £6.99 will be taken on your subscription renewal date. You can stop subscription renewing at any time. Remainder of offer lost if you cancel before end of offer period. At the end of the offer period your Sky Movies Pass renews at £8.99 a month unless cancelled. Not available in conjunction with any other NOW TV offer/promotion. Offer for Sky Movies Pass only. NOW TV terms and conditions apply. "

If you signed up for the free £20 M&S voucher you shouldn't cancel before the 1st bill anyway...if not, as you were

BTW: Didn't choose to take them up on the 22% saving offer, but imagine others also got a NOW TV Box to use 'for free' over the Xmas/NewYear period and will be facing the same issue of needing to cancel in next few days to AVOID the automatic subscription renewal kicking in - so if nothing else let this 'deal' remind you to log-in to Your A/c and unsubscribe - though as warned by the_jinj if you are on a deal that REQUIRES you to pay 1 or more bills then don't cancel prematurely!

Incidentally at the end of the cancellation process the "My Passes" section of your a/c clearly shows "You have cancelled... will not be charged after your trial ends... viewing will expire on ... Jan 2014"

I think this was a previous HUKD with extra £back for people PAYING a sub [I got the box early when it was just a simple £2 cashback for buying the £9.99 box]:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/20-shopping-voucher-10-10-cashback-now-tv-1724946
so looks like potentially only costs you £6.99 for that first month to "earn" your £20 £back - but I'll leave you to double-check your £back T&Cs.

As I mentioned there are a number of screens to the cancellation process. The deal appeared on the 3rd screen which had the final "CONFIRM CANCELLATION" button on it. Previous screens had been "I STILL WANT TO CANCEL" [This is all on your computer having logged in to your account, I don't believe you can manage the sub in any way on the box itself.]

You can always 'suck it and see' based on how Sky's system decides to make you an offer: as the "offer" appears on the final screen BEFORE you actually CONFIRM cancellation, ie can always back-out/close if you don't immediately get an offer you can't refuse, and decide to wait and try again another time.
.

thank you I have now got 4 mths for £6.99

Can you get BT Sports on Now TV ?

You can just add Sky Sports - bought in 24 hour chunks @ £9.99/day!
http://www.nowtv.com/sports
If BT ever did a "Roku Channel" then conceivably you could 'side-load' it as single non-menu'd app, as highly unlikely Sky would ever add it as an official menu'd Now TV box Roku Channel (the Now TV box being a Now TV customised Roku LT box as I understand it).

go through Topcashback for £6.06 cashback on a now tv month pass. Effectively £2.93/month if you do this every month. I wonder if you could combine the two offers?

Went for topcashback and the £6.99 deal.... If it tracks happy fans!
Cheers OP

Hi OP.

I bought a NowTV Box in December for £9.99. I din't get a free 30 day Sky movie pass though. How did you qualify for this please.

Thanks.

just sit back and wait ... I had a 4 month ... £1/month deal offered to me back in Aug

my £1 a month for 6 months deal is just coming to an end and I'm cancelling, I'd rather pay £5.99 for Netflix, especially as I've now discovered how to change the catalogue to the US version

Mine too. Does anyone know if cancelling the pass a few days before the rate goes up results in an immediate cessation of service, or if it carries on until the end of the month / billing period?

As I see it you're cancelling your RENEWAL not your sub. When I stopped my paid renewal it clearly showed access continues to date at end of 30 day free trial.

As I understand it every now TV box comes with a 30 day free trial as long as you provide payment details for the then ongoing paid subscription ( that I was cancelling when got this 22% off offer) ie it's isn't a pass code, but rather if/when you sign up for the movies you get the first month free on the basis they inertia sell you an ongoing sub at the standard £8.99/m

once you hook up and register you will probably get the free month activated

is this offer shown when you cancel on the box or online?

Can somebody please translate this to English for me..
"Got a NOW TV Box at £9.99 less straight £2 purchase £back to use over Xmas as cheap source of Pixar/Disney/Movies with its bundled 30-days free trial of Sky Movies on it (usually £8.99/m anyway).

I got the 83p a month deal for 6 months and made good use of NowTV. Cancelled the other day but will return later in the year if there is a good deal.

Cancel completely - dont take first offer. They will email you with offers better than this within 2 weeks.

I was thinking of switching to NOW TV from Sky via my LG smart TV. I don't watch anything on Sky, due to working away from home 5 days a week.. My son only watches sky movies. I thought 8.99 a month was a pretty good deal compared to 42 quid a month for sky. Lots of comments on here seem to say that NOWTV is not good value. If not, what are the alternatives?

Not sure if this will work but for entertainment pass TCB showing £7.07 when actual price is just £4.99 so £2.08 profit.

Gave it a shot, will update if TCB track.

You can use this to stream movies(which you may have downloaded to your PC/Laptop) wirelessly using a piece of software called plex which can be downloaded free.

Does anyone know if you sign-in with your SkyID to register your box do you still get the 30 day trial? I bought a box before Christmas but haven't activated it yet.

doesn't it work out at £7 a month if you buy the bow TV box with 5 months of movies for £34.99 from them directly. £35/5 months=£7pm with a box thrown in as well

How did you get it for a £1 a month?

We watch through our lg tv. Did you not sign up for the three months free Offer that came with all new tvs? The content is exactly the same as sky movies, you can even watch the sky channels live. I'm thinking about doing the same thing and taking the entertainment pack aswell which is £4.99.

Should be able to - easy to suck and see. The NowTV site has the button for "Start your 30 day free trial...."
http://www.nowtv.com/movies
that goes to a sign-in page but that is headed "got a Now TV a/c or Sky iD then sign in instead...."

Thanks. I'll give it a go late. The trial is a bonus. I only bought the box for the catch-up services as it's wireless but if the paid-extras are decent enough they may be worth the money. Although I think the £8.99 goes up to £14.99 if I remember correctly (in March?).

I didn't get the offer - it lets me cancel by current sub (I'm on the £2.50 pcm for 6 months which expires in a fortnight). I'll try again next week.

Hot! How do you turn auto renew off, thought I had, but now i can't find the link? I found info here finally...

Also with Quidco (for new customers only unfortunately) there are some cashback offers too, see them here: http://www.quidco.com/nowtv/

Best is £10 cashback just for doing the 30 day movie trial, so a free box or a tenner off this deal I would suspect, others maybe able to add more info and it maybe possible to combine offers. Not sure on that either. Pretty new to Quidco. Anyway I hope this info is of use to someone.
