Good price, a tad cheaper at Shopto for anybody who doesn't wish to collect.

You can use the codes on an existing account but beware. You can't stack them. You need to add a new code when the existing one is about to expire, (i.e. month 3).

I buy these boxes when they're on offer because they are work out cheaper over three months than paying £6.99.

I bought six the last time they were on offer from Tesco and part of the Clubcard deal so I got 18 months Entertainment pass for half price, which was then free - still with me!?

can i add the 3 months free with this to the 3 months that I have not … can i add the 3 months free with this to the 3 months that I have not redeemed on my Chromecast and get 6 months free?

Yes once you are in the last month of the Chromecast entertainment pass you can add the entertainment pass code from the Now TV box for the next 3 months (from what I have read on previous threads the codes with Now TV boxes can possibly used for up to a year after issue).

When I bought mine last summer took up a offer of a free months trial of sky movies , then had cashback on the second paid month of sky movies (then cancelled sky movies after the second month). I then applied the entertainment pass from the box I had bought. Then at Christmas I got a Chromecast and applied the 3 month now TV entertainment free pass from the Chromecast in January.

If you haven't signed up with a Now TV account yet it might be best to do a movies free trial month and/or cashback first then do the Entertainment pass (may depend upon what offers are available at the moment).

Just a tip for anybody that this applies to. You can subscribe to Now Tv via an Apple TV if you own one, and have your account billed through iTunes itself. So there is nothing stopping you from stocking up on iTunes 20% off vouchers dotted around the shops etc and have a cheap subscription on the go. If you then link it to your standard Now Tv account you can still watch via other platforms. (Though technically the Apple TV itself is currently the best Now Tv option anyway.)

I've just confirmed using the latest Now TV Box firmware ie v6.1 Build 5516 that got updated earlier this month.
The Developer Application sideload (ie a special Developer App sideload package) can still be sideloaded - eg using these instructions for the freeware Plex client v2.6.9

Because its easier than going to the shops, buying a box you don't need, then going to Cex to sell them a box that you didn't want?

I'll probably buy another box myslef now that the price has dropped as I could do with one upstairs and one downstairs, but I can understand why some might not want the hassle of buying and selling a box they don't want.

To help people going via a cashback site the Product codes for PCW/Currys are:

    Now TV box with Movies 2 months £14.99 = Product 111388 (or just a 2 month pass for £15.00 = Product 118644 )

I have no issues with the Now TV's TV catch-up channels feeding a 40" and even a 55" 1080p screen with it's 720p output (obviously with the BBC iPlayer set into 'HD' mode, but even 4OD was fine last night). Have used their Now TV Movies on that 55" screen too without thinking it was bad in any way. This is all fed via a good WiFi signal from a 40Mbps fibre, but their minimum stated requirement is 2.5Mbps which sounds about right. (edited)

I'd get a chromecast. I have a now tv box in one room and chromecast in the other, the chromecast works just as good as the now tv box with the difference being the need to use a phone or tablet to control chromecast - which everyone has so not a problem. Where chromecast differs is the ability to cast your phone/tablet screen, so making the likes of xmbc accessible, although it needs some improvement before it becomes watchable.

I bought one of these boxes over a year ago now and was initially using … I bought one of these boxes over a year ago now and was initially using it just for the catch-up tv, however, for several months now I have been paying by direct debit for the films. I'm sure it started out at £6.99 a month but for several months now they have been taking out £9.99 a month. I want to get my daughter one of these boxes for her tv (in the same house), would it be cheaper for me to cancel my subscription and take out a new deal with a box and several months tv, or, do you think that they will lower my monthly price if I try to cancel - what would be the best way to get around this (if I cancel my subscription and start afresh with a deal for my daughter, could I then link my box to her account)? Thank you.

Now TV boxes and Now TV accounts are distinct. An a/c can have up to 4 devices [eg a Now TV Box] registered on it and 2 using it simultaneously.

A Now TV box has to be logged into a Now TV a/c, but that a/c does not need to have any subscription active for the basic channels - eg YouTube/CatchUP TV to work.

If you try the cancellation tip - eg as still working for SOME subscribers, but NOT all:
    hotukdeals.com/dea…612
the worst that can happen is that you do decide to confirm your cancellation and then decide to subscribe again the same/full price you were already on. So you could benefit if for example you are away for a fortnight or not into watching movies for that fortnight before you re-subscribe.

If you want two Now TV boxes in the same household then best to just get a new box with a bundled 2/3 months sub [which comes as a code on slip that you enter onto the Now TV account via a computer when you want to redeem it, though they say it's only valid to redeem for 12 months from purchase]

Any Now TV a/c can have up to 4 devices registered on it, and up to 2 simultaneously using it.

So if you got a new box with say 2 months movies, you'd be best setting up a new a/c and attaching the new box to that new a/c and probably getting 1 month free trial of movies [I haven't set up a new a/c since Xmas so don't know if they are still giving you a free month's trial], and then inputting the 2 month code on that a/c later to get months 2-3.

Meanwhile you could detach your old box from the old a/c and attach it to the new a/c and enjoy those 3 months on it too.

In fact the boxes don't need to be in the same physical household - eg my friends with an extended family over two homes have a box in each home that they use on the same a/c [ie up to 4 devices with 2 active = no conflict probs ever with just 2 boxes]..

If you cancel and select too expensive I think you will probably get a offer of a few months at reduced rate (the link to the post below shows what you get if you cancel the entertainment package (thanks to mikerr for this post). I think when I cancelled the sky movies (after a month free trial and 1 month I got cashback on) I didn't get a offer because I selected another reason for cancelling but I did get a email with a offer reduced rate for 2 months in December (about 2 months after cancelling).

    hotukdeals.com/dea…048

I think if you cancelled sky movies you would get a similar offer (perhaps £7.99 for 2 months?).

An alternative might be is to cancel then buy movie passes from Game, PC World or Currys (then when you have less than a month to go on the pass you can get a new pass and then apply it to your account for the next 2 months). I think game also has a offer at the moment if you buy Now Entertainment/Movie TV passes with selected XBOX or PSN passes you get £5 off.

I had one of these just before Christmas. The movies streamed ok from the … I had one of these just before Christmas. The movies streamed ok from the Sky app but the box itself is slow to navigate and the Catch Up apps leave a lot to be desired e.g. no HD option on iPlayer (unlike with other platforms), iPlayer crashed countless times, Channel 5 would hang half-way through a film etc.If I didn't have my new Samsung Smart telly I'd have probably opted for a Roku 3 for better performance.

The BBC iPlayer App 100% definitely has a HD option, and one which can be toggled on so don't need to do it every time either!
The iPlayer App around Autumn time could be a bit sluggish, but haven't noticed that for a few months now.

Some of the user experience of the box - eg sluggishness & of course buffering - depends on the quality of your Box's WiFi link and your Internet circuit.

Setting the Now TV Box BBC iPlayer Channel to default to playing any future programmes in HD - High Definition
    - Launch the channel and you'll see "* Settings" at top right
    - Navigate to that Settings area and press OK to open it [bug: the "*" key doesn't move cursor to the area, use the arrows]
    - See High Definition / Standard Definition / Low Quality as three options
    - Move highlight to High Definition and OK it to get the tick there
    - Back out to the iPlayer main screens and select a programme likely to be available in HD
    - While seeing the initial programme screen with the information text, along the bottom of the screen you see a row of icons/buttons and should see "HD" with a white underline bar - ie meaning it is turned on. [not the clearest user interface!]

The Now TV iPlayer Channel will now default to playing HD versions in the future - ie you don't need to do this every day.
(Though clearly defaulting the Now TV's iPlayer Channel to HD will only play programmes in HD where the iPlayer has a HD version in its library, and some older programmes won't be offered in HD, just as they aren't if you use an computer & Internet access to iPlayer.)

The BBC iPlayer supports subtitles [on some programmes at least] - if there is an "S" in that row of icons at the bottom (ie alongside the "HD") you can move the cursor there to toggle subtitles on/off. Again you get a white underline bar to indicate when ON.

With the 2 months Movies, 3 months Entertainment voucher codes...
    You can:
    a) set up one Now TV a/c - this SHOULD come with a free 30-day movies trial!
    b) connect both Now TV Box devices to that one Now TV a/c [you're allowed 4 devices, and 2 can use subscribed channels simultaneously at any time]
    c) apply the first voucher to the a/c and hence get 2-3 months on your 2 devices
    d) apply the 2nd voucher during the last month to extend for the next 2-3 months [as you can't have two vouchers for the same subscription service running simultaneously on an a/c - ie have to wait til first voucher used up - eg while it is giving you say your 3rd of 3 months of Entertainment, it will then let you input your 2nd code to claim next 3 months of Entertainment]

Vouchers are definitely valid for 12m from your purchase [but keep receipt just in case you get very "old stock" where the vouchers which are probably shipped by Now TV with say 15-18m on them have already "run down" their validity, and you might have to sort it out with Now Helpline. I've a Movies voucher stashed away ready for next Xmas' family entertainment lol.]

Is it the same price on apple TV?

Hi, yes Entertainment pack is £6.99, Movies pack £9.99 etc via Apple etc. So grab a few 20% off vouchers as and when you can and you can bring costs down to £5.59 and £7.99 respectively. Via Apple TV live channels are also in 720p, as opposed to every other device in SD only.

Hopefully we see a 1080p and 5.1 audio service this year, even if it was an extra £5 I'd take it.

Yes, they have the catchup services from BBC, ITV, C4 and C5.
Plud you can also use any of the other apps without a current now TV pass.
Only thing you really have to watch with now TV is how many items you have registered to play on.
I was trying to get my tablet to play with the updated app (wrongly saying it was rooted and couldn't play). I didn't notice whatever I was doing registered the tablet 3 times and it filled up my quota of items I am allowed to register in a month (4 in total, then 1 change per month)... Ended up having to call them to get my now TV box added.
It's a pain you just can't change the 4 items you wish to use without having to wait a month.
Hit deal and ordered another one (can't use my tablet in bed to watch anymore) so will get one for bedroom.

Just to let everyone know (and I haven't looked through the whole thread to see if it has been mentioned); If you're a new user and just bought a box for the fist time sign up to the free month first. As the free month comes to an end use the voucher for the 2 (Films) or 3 (Entertainment) months free. If you are an existing user with a new box (with an expired account) then set up a new user name and account and do the same as above. Also on the website ensure that automatic payments are turned off so they can't bill you. If you do wish to continue with the service then you'll usually get a good offer if you start to cancel!

The stated validity of the voucher codes is redeem within 12 months from purchase.

Although the voucher doesn't display a validity date, the code does have an expiry date in their database. We think they ship with something like 15-18m validity, so if you buy really "old stock" you might have an issue redeeming if you've left it late in your year, but the Now TV Helpline will sort it out for you - though worth keeping your purchase receipt as proof of purchase if required [which is always worth doing anyway when you buy a bit of kit/box].

thank u .... any luck with getting XBMC/Kodi , any internet browser app?

    Its unlikely this will happen.

Any channel would need to be submitted to Roku for testing and digitally signing, sideloaded apps are still Roku signed and approved Unless someone at Kodi (and whatever flavour browser you would like) wants to do so (and no doubt at a cost) it will not happen.

Another thought is that Roku sells hardware, they rely on the content from the channels (such as Netflix, Amazon print, HBO etc) to sell hardware. If Roku were to approve and sign a channel as Kodi, then given its one of the main ways people use Kodi is to watch illegal streaming then Roku may find the content providers dry up. No content, no hardware sales.
