As far as I know, Now TV currently streams at a maximum resolution of 720p - so be aware if buying this 4K-output model for Now TV content.

Hot for this price. But this does annoy me. None of their channels are at 1080p yet, let alone 4k!

Have voted hot for the price, but its cold for the 720p content. Just find it crazy, that they are incapable of streaming anything higher.

Call me a cynic but I don't think this will ever change as Sky want you to buy their full price systems for the 'premium' experience and not allow you to get it on the cheap via NowTV.

As a product, I like NowTV as for 2 years in a row I've managed to get both TV and Movies for a £99 which, personally, is great value. I stopped downloading shows like Game of Thrones and Walking Dead as I could watch them legally on NowTV - but now I have a 55in 4k display, the puny output of NowTV looks positively awful.
Amazing deal bought 1 gonna sell quick at this price

Exactly, used to use mine on 1080 TV and was fine, got 50 4k TV, it looks pitiful. And as you say, just another way for sky to make money, but as some point, they will get rid of the dishes and have online content only.
720p max? Eww
We had NowTV, and were subscribers (it was alright) until they removed Plex from our boxes (which was good for the kids stuff). After that we just stopped using it, and eventually cancelled it entrely (good job NowTV).

NowTV looked good bordering on great on my 9yr old 46in 1080P Plasma - but on the 55in 4k looks horrible - but I'm not going to buy into full-blown Sky so I'll have to live with it as I like having legal, streamed content.
Any way of putting this in to developer mode and putting apps on it like Plex or showbox? maybe a VPN option?

No Plex or VPN - cannot side load any additional apps. Amazon Fire TV Stick is way superior in every way, I would say opt for that if you want flexibility and future proofing.

I was just about to type snobs and saw your bit It was not that long ago that TV's weighed about 4 ton and had horizontal and vertical hold !! never mind eleventy million k hd koled oleg olaf and all the other rubbish. 720 is not a flippin chore to watch any better resolution than there is now and people will think reality is not very good resolution! Grenade thrown and explosion to follow
No Amazon Prime

Does this support 4K and HDR for Netflix?
This 4k box doesn't have a freeview tuner in like the old box does it?
Its adds to the basket as £29.99?
I have the previous box which I get freeview on. Is it correct that this one doesn t have freeview plz?

Yes, you are correct in thinking there is no Freeview on this newer 4K NOW TV Smart Box. It has no tuner inside, and there is no aerial socket on the back, so it's streaming only and nothing over-the-air.

The £24.99 price shows-up as "In-Store" only, so you'd need to visit your local Currys / PC World if you wish to save the extra fiver.

That depends on the individual app(s) and or content providers. So, while the box itself is capable of delivering 4K content, you'll find that not all of the stuff that's available for streaming on the box is in 4K. Most notably, as others have said in this thread, the quality of NOW TV programming is (currently) capped at 720p HD - i.e. not even 1080p Full HD, let alone 4K - but, technically, the device itself is 4K even if that's not true of everything that you can stream on it.
Are these not £20 in Sainsbury's?

You could always get a Roku to replace your NOW TV boxes. Plex is available in the Roku channel store, so no need to sideload it, and you can still get everything on all of the NOW TV passes by installing the Roku channel (app) for NOW TV which is also in the channel store. Plus, FWIW, the 'Developer Mode' is still available on genuine Roku-branded devices so you still have the option to sideload other channels if you so choose. However, with 5,800+ Roku channels available via the built-in store, you may not even need to look elsewhere for entertainment!

The HD-only Roku Express is £24.99 from Media Streaming Market and the 4K Roku Streaming Stick+ is £54.99 at Costco if you'd rather go for that. As far as I know, those are (currently) the cheapest prices for either model in the UK.

May be? And what if they aren't?

Then what is the point of making a 4K box. I don't know much about these things.
The Box is a Roku, which is a Budget Box made especially for Sky's NowTV Service, so it will produce good quality 4K Picture (currently only with the 4K Netflix Service which is a default App on the NowTV Box).

As Said all the NowTV content is still 720p, in fact its not even true 720p as its highly compressed, but is still a 720p Format), still quiet watchable though.

You get what you pay for, there are always some form of Cheap NowTV Deals and sometimes free Months available, so it is what it is, you cant really knock it as its a Pay as you Go Service which fills the Market for Peeps not wanting to commit to Annual Subscriptions.

One of the good things about the NowTV boxes is its a very cheap way of turning your TV into a Smart TV for Catch Up and Box Sets that are available from, BBC, ITV Hub, All 4, My5 UKTV Play etc, all for Free and without having to Subscrib to any of the NowTV Content.
