I have a Sony Viera TV with no smart function but we have wifi in the house. If i got this would I be able to watch the channels listed above (not bothered about netflix and we have Virgin for downstairs) as I would like to put a tv in my bedroom for the first time ever. If not this one would I be better with a Firestick or the other one that was on here a few days ago (Roku i think).

Thanks for any advice it is a journey into the unknown for me.

This will work via a broadband connection on any TV with an HDMI port. Now TV is broadcast at 720p so Now TV Sport will be at that resolution regardless of what devise you purchase.
many thanks

That's correct, and I'm saving my free trial month of Amazon Prime for the 20 live Premier League games they have between the 3rd of December and the 27th of December.
sorry another silly question but are the catch-up BBC ITV and Channel 4 channels free to watch without a subscription? thanks

Yes they are all free, in the list above the subscription channels are noted with an *.
Good that they've now added at Curry's, hopefully others also offer this

If you want Freeview channels, this is no use. It will give you all the various players from the main Freeview channels, but no Freeview itself. They do show live TV, but it means jumping in and out of multiple different apps. The closest you'll get using out of the box kit like this, wifi only - no ariel connected, would likely be a Roku box and the "TV Player" app. The app gives you a chunk of live Freeview channels. Not all of them. And not HD. But for free, without an ariel, it's about as good as it gets. The TV Player app isn't available on Now TV boxes. But you can run Now TV on a Roku.

Anyone know how long the passes in these are valid for? (Or are they the pre-installed ones?) Assuming you can punt the sticks on for a fiver a pop on ebay, that gets you Sky Sports for £15 a month. Which is about as good as it gets on these. Almost worth buying a pile of them ....

The passes are now all pre-installed on the sticks/boxes, and are transferred to your account for later use when you activate the device.

Yes, you can store multiple passes of the same type on your account, and I have been told by customer support that they do not have an expiry date.
Can you connect to your hotspot on mobile and Tether?
Should I buy this for my dad for Christmas or give to him now to watch Sky Sports at mine? Will he miss out on anything good this December? He already has BT sports at home and I was thinking of getting the fire stick so he can watch sports on Amazon. Don’t know either to buy both or either or?

If he is a Premier League fan Christmas isn't a great time to activate a Now TV Sports month pass , Amazon have the Boxing day fixture programme, BT have the New years day fixtures (and another set of fixtures later in January), and BT & BBC share the FA Cup 3rd round fixtures in early Jan, and for the rest of the season

I'm still going to active a month pass on Boxing Day however to watch England play South Africa at cricket, the NFL playoffs, World Darts and the PL games Sky do have. It depends what he's are into really , if he is a PL fan I'd get this and activate the Sports month pass in a few days time to watch the 17 fixtures Sky have between Saturday and the 22nd of December, if you activate on Christmas Day he will get 6 fewer PL games in his month of Sky Sports

Halifax wouldn't budge from £20 saying only one's in stand (entertainment & cinema) were the only ones on offer, stating web site must be wrong. Quite a few on shelf though.
