Trade in any old media streamer (2018 model or older) and get 50% off a NOW TV Stick. In-store only, available for reserve and collect. One trade-in per device per person. Offer ends 19/03/2019.

How would they know what a TV streamer is? Surely you could take along some non-descript USB stick?

Or what about some old video card - they used to be used for streaming back before USB streamers became fashionable.

Been using it for 18 months with no problem, why not get their 14 day free trial and see?
Good deal. And these sticks have Netflix as well which I didn't realize. Bonus for my son who hasn't got Netflix on his telly.

Have they tried powerline adapters? There won't be any reception / buffering problems with these. Can only be used with the NowTV boxes that have a LAN/ethernet port. Couple of examples at Amazon from £25 below.

One unit plugs into a mains plug point & linked to the main router with an ethernet cable, while the other unit into a mains plug point near the TV (not recommended to use either unit via a cable/plug extension of any kind). Then from the latter unit into the NowTV box with another ethernet cable.

Tenda PH3 1000Mbps Powerline Adapter Kit with Single Port/Home Plug AV2 UK Extender, for fast & stable network expansion, UK Plug Version - Pack of 2

TP-Link TL-PA4010PKIT Passthrough Powerline Adapter Starter Kit, No Configuration Required, UK Plug, Pack of 2 (this has a useful plug 'passthrough' if they're running out of mains plug points).

Every day's a school day! Thank you.... (Gonna get one anyway for a number of reasons but appreciate your response!)
Does it have to be a complete set up? I lost the remote for the box and was looking at these anyway. Might as well save a tenner
Are these sticks better than the old little boxes or is Sky UI just complete garbage in general?

I just collected mine. It was the first they had heard of it, CSA got the manager to come and guide him through it on the till , who said (quote) "chuck the old box in the recycling" so I decided to keep my old HDMI cable...tried to ask them "how old a streamer?" but they couldn't find any details at the time.

Why not ring ahead and ask them if you can bring it to them incomplete if they are only going to recycle it?

I use both and don't notice any significant difference in picture quality etc, although the smart stick picture may be slightly better.
The smart stick remote is more useful with the voice search option etc.

I have got a white Now TV box which I know is quite old and also a black Now TV box, but I can't remember if I bought the black box last year or the year before - does anybody know if there is somewhere you can look up what model you have and what year it is? Thank you.

I don't think it matters in the slightest...the staff will just stick it straight in the recycling! The conditions state '2018 or older' so even if you bought it 2.5 months ago on New Years Eve it would be fine!!!

I've got one of the original white ones in my room and the newer black one in the sitting room. I'd prefer to give them the white one and put the black one in my room (and the stick in the sitting room), but don't know if they would take the white one - I could take both along I suppose and just ask them if they'd take just the white one I suppose.
Just another query about this. I pay for the Now TV account but got my daughter one of the Now TV sticks to use on my account (she lives about 130 miles from me). When I got her the stick, it had 2 months of free Entertainment built in to the stick (not a code to enter). My daughter managed to set this up at her end by logging into my account - I was also in the last month of my current Entertainment pass, so now the pass expires on 10th May. If this stick from Curry's has two months built in to it as well, does that mean that I can't use it until I'm in the last month of the current pass, that expires on 10th May (seeing that you can't usually add new passes until your current pass expires or you are in the last month of your existing one)? Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

You just add the voucher that comes with the new stick on to your account and it will then just extend your current subscription by 2 months, so it will then be due to expire on 10th July.

And take in the white box, they really will not care less what you bring in!!! (plus, the conditions state any media player)
Do you have to activate the inbuilt pass straight away or can you opt to use later -have old paper style code to use first

You can just add any vouchers or codes that you have to your account and they will stack up (rather than hanging on to bits of paper for months etc!!!)
This is a better deal than the two floating around for 2months for 1 price entertainment and the GoT 2 months for £7.99 ( i think ) .£2 a box ? bargain.hot.

Have things changed then recently? In the past, one could only apply a code when there were 30 or fewer days to go before the previous pass ran out. I've never heard of or been able to stack codes as you say.

Agh great, companies encouraging waste

Throwing them away is such a waste plus they're made of plastic, even if it's getting recycled it's probably not broken so it's a waste
Couldn't they do something better like give old boxes away to people who deserve it

When you link the stick/box to your account the included vouchers are stored on your account in a new category "You have X vouchers waiting for you", and you can then activate them at a date of your choice.

Thanks for confirming that, it's a very recent feature isn't it?

Also, I take it that the vouchers that come with the stick can't be used on another account?

Performance wise the black box and the stick appear almost identical, although the stick obviously lacks an Ethernet port.
The stick remote's tv on/off and volume up/down buttons is also a great improvement..

Thanks for that, which should work no doubt, but for a certain reason I need it to work the other way around! As I want to give away (register) the code to my cousin's account (who lives 60 miles away) & keep the stick for my usage.

Sadly since developer mode was removed from the Now TV boxes, the USB ports can no longer play media files anyway.
