Shambles of a company, wouldn't pay them a £1 with their customer service

Shambles of a company, wouldn't pay them a £1 with their customer service

I hear you however, not sure if anybody is much better. It's always a hit and miss depending on who you speak with in any of the energy company. At least that's my experience
£100 fee per call out
but still good for the service, what is the price after 1st year?
£100 fee per call out? good if you just want the service out of this but otherwise it is expensive. have you had your service done? what did they do in the service?

The man came in, opened up the boiler, played with it for 20 minutes and put it back together to give me a bill of £83. I needed it to continue my maintenance cover with the installer. Boiler is only 2 years old and under 5 years maintenance plan provided I get annual servicing done.
Not sure what can be done in a service to be honest. Had my combi in 12 years and not had it serviced once.

The do a tightness test to confirm there is no gas leak, they use the CPA on the flue to check the levels and have a look. I know a service engineer for one of the big players and engineers are required to do 14 services in a day before they hit their bonus. Figure how long it takes to do one.

I spoke to somebody in npower sales team-she said it is currently half price. Have not verified it myself. So, I assume it will be full price after one year but I will discontinue it if it costs me more than this after one year
Try swinton home Emergency. £9 something per month.
Covers boiler, electric, Pluming, roof and locks.
No excess to pay.
Had boiler breakdown 8 days before end of 1yr contract Engineer was booked to come 2 days later. Got a phone call to ask if I was staying into year 2. I said no...... first the engineer rung to say he can't make it and to make a new appointment. Kept getting cancelled appointments from them till the 1st day out of contract.
Never will use them again.

That's horrendous! If I were you- I will send them a bill for repair with the details of the contact made within the contract and cancellation of appointment. Add the value of your time too and VAT. They should be legally bound to pay if you contacted them when within the contract. CAB can advise more.
I went for the full care package last year. £180 with £ 100 TCB so was quite pleased. However, when I needed them to fix my 3 way valve it took over 3 months to get the work completed. They spent most of the time trying to prove it was something else including about one month getting the water analysed for sludge content. Needless to say not using them again.

Trying this one this year and it seems a much better deal anyway.

this looks good.
Beware, this has to be one of the most incompetent companies in the UK. Not just my own experience of a year of being doubled billed but numerous others, just google it.
I use British Gas, £15 pm, no call-out fees, covers radiators, controls as well as boiler.

I've called them out twice in the past 5-6 years, once they came out same day, the other was next day.

when you take out home insurance many companies now include homecare, cover boiler repairs, whole central heating and many others for a couple of quid a month.

if you want a boiler service call the manufacturer in the summer, their guys don't have many warranty repairs in the summer so the manufacturers do servicing for about £60 and yes it doesn't take them long but you should have it serviced to clean it out and make sure its running ok but even the guys that come out will tell you, don't bother to get it done each year unless you haven't got a fully sealed unit.

Almost never, as rads are usually considered 'wear and tear' parts by most companies.
save your money, the boiler does not need anything done for years to come after the first commissioning. Obviously you need some basic knowledge to sort out the silly things. Saying so, the silly things things are not even sorted out by any service care as they always say that this is not included and this other one is also not etc.... I remember once, the boiler failed an british gas wanted to charge me £200 20 years ago to clean the boiler for inexistent lime scale in the system.
If this deal were free and they paid me £500 to take this deal, there would be more chance of lord Lucan turning up on my drive riding shergar, npower just have to be the worst company on gods earth, how they stay in business I have no idea, complete and utter shambles of a company and don't get me started on their customer service,100% non existent.

Yes but the warranty on most boilers requires an annual service to be carried out.

Used to have this cover myself, underwritten by Walmsleys. It was a shrewd investment in my part as I've had no end of combi problems which they assisted with and for the most part, fully covered. They only cover boilers up to 10 years old and insist upon an annual service for cover to remain active.

I now pay for a 'Home emergency' premium add on with my Home Insurance.

Don't think the boiler needs to be 10. My parents is just over
Six months after I moved my supplies to another company (saving £300+/year!) I realised NPower had never returned the large amount of credit they still owed me (due to their excessive DD calculation). When I eventually got through on the phone the explanation was that I hadn't asked for it to be returned! That comes pretty close to theft in my book.

EDF aren't highly rated either but are still 100% more professional to deal with.

British Gas have a zero excess option, from £16 per month.
A mess of a company.

Agree, wouldn't touch with a barge pole! Used to have a 12 months plan, 12 engineer visits...issue was still not fixed. Dont waste your time with this.

Covers them in what way though? As in they'll fix them to a state where they'll stop leaking temporarily, or fully replace them?

If it's the former, I suppose it's useful in an emergency. If it's the latter I'll be really impressed (and surprised) as it would be cheaper for someone with some old rads to get cover and then claim.
Seriously bad company. I could write a full page about their customer service and I wouldn't pay them a penny honestly. I'll leave it for the individual to decide but npower are the pits, seriously, cant stress it enough.
Wouldn't tough npower with a bargepole. They provided my utilities a few years ago. Never again!! Still bottom of every customer service surveys for years
I don't know where about in the country you are but £80 for a service unless its London is expensive. All the big company's will have ways and means of providing as little as possible for the most money and then try and get more out of you on top. ! As an independent engineer my husband charges between £50/ £60 depending on distance etc... he will bend over backwards for repeat custom. try your local guys, better service and you get the same engineer every time !
Home energy services are even worse
On paper it almost looks good. But, there is only one winner with most insurances policies and it's not the customer.

£100 per visit is extortionate. It may be ok if you only use it for the service, although a service nowadays requires very little effort from the engineer.

I'm not voting either way because it may suit some, just not me.
My dad's house has pre-meters and npower are sending him bills every month for energy, now they're threatening court action. My place is with british gas and npower were sending me bills for a year, also threatening further action. This is the worst company I've ever dealt with in my life.
Avoid at all costs . Nightmare company months of complaints . They threatened court action and they OWED me money . Customer service is the worst ever . Handed everything to ombudsman and got compensation and a half hearted apology . Email every complaint don't bother calling them . Shocking awful disgrace of a company .

They won't replace them, its cover for repairs, which as you say is for emergency use, but its useful to remember it covers the thermostats as well.
