Could always get Train Simulator 2013 when it comes up for sale, plus the Flying Scotsman add on, and drive from York to Darlington
Now that's fun! A lot more than 2 stations.

Now I know why you are required to install PhysX :-P

£9 for car parking?

York is really expensive to park, the railway museum is usually one of the cheapest places to park for the day.

The NRM is free all year round (part of Science Museum group). A great place to take the kids to let off steam.

The NRM is free anyway, but I got an e-mail highlighting this for half term, so I thought that it might be a good day out if you have kids/big kids. See the steam star from the Ha… Read more

We tend to go quite regularly. Its an excellent winter day out for the kids as virtually everything is indoors. Only downside with these "special events" is that it can get quite busy.

Parking at the NRM is limited and is about £7 a day. Use the park and ride york.gov.uk/tra…r1/
and if you use the Rawcliffe Bar bus (near Clifton Moor) it stops right outside the museum. Fare is about £2.40 return for an adult and up to two kids are free per paying adult.

York centre is only about 10/15 mins walk from the museum so mum can take the kids to the museum whilst dad does some shopping (though strangely enough it always seems to happen the other way round (_;) )

sorry, error in communication - it is free to get in (and a top day out … sorry, error in communication - it is free to get in (and a top day out for free too) - I meant is this technically a deal? Sounds like it'll be a great weekend though, we're planning to go on the 18th - btw the Park and Ride is worth considering as parking in York can be quite pricey.

Oh I see what you mean! I thought you were commenting on where I said in the OP 'The NRM is free anyway'. X)

I guess that technically it could be posted as a freebie at any time, as, I suppose, could any free museum or gallery.

Worth a thread though, as the Wizard Week is the just half term and people might not know about it.

Good tips re the parking, snig and the rides, matty.

Good to know there is a wizard week though. My nephew will love that

Have a good time!

It is free to get in. There are a couple of small rides you can do which are paid for, or were when we went last year like the replica rocket. So you can browse all the trains in the shed for nothing. Some were view from the ground only but there is lots to see
