Now I know that NUS Extra deals get posted regularly, but bear with me.
you can purchase a year NUS card for £12 WITHOUT buying an online course first or studying.
Go to the NUS extra form and say that you are studying at an institute (I used CIPFA, but there are loads you can use, just google them).
It'll then ask for a student code - make one up.
I've received my NUS card in the post with no issues.
Then enjoy a year of student discounts including:
Apple Store
Spotify
Odeon
National express
McDonalds
And loads more!
You'll earn your £12 back in no time and make huge savings.
Hope this helps!

Buy at your own RISK.
Bet you're a hoot at parties.
Also the money goes to supporting student unions. Take a day off
No wonder companies are reluctant to offer discounts anymore when people take advantage like you are doing!
Yeah there will be haters who don't agree with what i've said here.... everyone loves a bargain i get that but, taking advantage of something such as a student/nhs/forces discount is just really unfair!
When I was at Uni there were two people on my course who were over retirement age - one celebrated his 70th birthday in our final year.
Lol on what grounds were they going to go to the authorities? Trying to get a student discount card? And actually paying £12 for it. They should so the checks up front. Maybe you should tell the authorities that they almost gave you a student card.
Haha yeah they are really going to go out of their way to stop all that extra income they get as well as the collective numbers of cards they use to bargain discounts with. Use some logic
Very lucky indeed! I heard the last guy they caught doing this got life without the chance for parole. (_;)
Thought it was logical, they keep the money but cancel any ill gotten cards !!!
Had this problem as well, but nothing a good disguise couldn't solve...
Did you get an email regarding renewal.. as mine is due to expire in a few months too
Think of it this way. They have a million members (as an example). They ask retailer for a discount. 'We have one million members so potentially 1 million customers for you. Please give us a discount'. If that number drops significantly, that bargaining tool is massively reduced. And as I said above, the £12 goes to supporting student unions.
LOL nonsense.
I renewed no problem.
Also got my date of birth chaged so I'm under 25 and can benefit from some european train discounts.
This isn't a subsidized scheme, retailers make money, NUS makes money.
Everyone makes money! It's just about building brand loyalty and enticing skint people who possibly would not have actually used the participating company to begin with.
Though I do take pleasure in non mature students being deprived of something, that's my right
Have you heard of the job title "Member of Parliament"?
Haha, that's quite funny. I doubt they would do that
Bullocks. I've done as in the OP four times, for four family members, so they each have an NUS card for passport-free travel between Britain and Ireland. Worked every time, paid the £12 fee in each case. No problem at all.
Does anyone know what the discount is at McDonald's? Any at Subway?
Not voted either way - just interested in comments!
Not going to vote but again interesting to read some of the discussion on this. Interestingly has anyone thought of starting a paid discount card scheme for non students that offers the same discounts as nus. I reckon people would pay up to £25 for this.......
+1 on this. Even let me change my place of study so that it makes more sense..

Because there are so many fraudulent NUS cards out there!
WHY THE HELL DO STUDENTS DESERVE DISCOUNTS ON ANYTHING???
What have they contributed, other than racking up debt (unless bank of mum and daddy are paying) and spending student loans on booze? (granted not all are like that)
I think the idea is that they will contribute in the future.
They said they will get HMRC involved next time as I was trying to defraud this country's student union group as its fraud.
Remember I told you this.
As if HMRC are going to give two hoots, and how exactly are you defrauding the student union? You are getting discount from stores you shouldn't be entitled to.
Think you got an over zealous phone ranger.
Are you bored or something Vinh?
I used my NUS card today for a free cheeseburger

5% at Amazon for certain catagories is worth it.
