NUS Extra / Totum Student Discount Card Workaround for £13.50. Seems to be renewals only

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

My card had expired and searched and searched for a workaround to no availability. I played about and stumbled upon this.

Since rebranding to Totum it seems they dropped majority of the online course suppliers from eligibility and now despatch cards directly to your place of study. Us that dont have a place of study were stuck up until NOW!

1. Sign up a free account to Open Universty (this will give you a little verification that you have an account if Totem decide to random spot check) take note of your Personal Indetifier Number if it's a new membership and not renewing

2. Head to NUS/Totum and sign up or login if renewing.

3. (IMPORTANT) In place of study choose Open University Students' Assosication.

3248369.jpg
4. Make sure yours dates cover you for a years membership and choose Other for Course Level and Other for Course Discipline.
3248369.jpg
5. Fill in personal details and upload photograph of yourself.

6. You will notice in the order summary that by choosing Open Uni you have the option to pay £1.50 for delivery to your home address avoiding the delivery to place of study. Notice your address under the delivery option which I have blacked mine out.
3248369.jpg
7. Pay (Total with Delivery £13.50 for 1 year) I recommend paying with PayPal to be eligible for buyer protection, if it goes wrong PayPal give you your money back. Here's my order confirmation.

8. Wait for your discount card to be delivered.

I hope this gets people some discounts and I was devistated when mine expired and couldn't find a workaround.

ENJOY!!

Amazon prime student can still be done with NUS, that's what i get it for, that and the odd shop that gives student discount when i'm out shopping
Nice workaround but NUS Extra/TOTUM is a dead parrot. No Spotify, no Apple Music. It’s UNiDAYS or bust these days.

I completely agree. But unfortunately they are very strict and no workarounds to my belief. Nus is worth it just for co op for myself!

In fact, come to think of it....

Haha - you’re spot on - that’s the only thing I use it for (and it’s worth it just for that, tbh)!!
I saw a 2/3 people had their cards cancelled on previous posts so wonder if they are cracking down?
Good effort ! A+

You might be bust, but that's because you have ZERO idea how lucrative this is... UNiDAYS is a mere 0.01% of what this card is used for, the reality is its worth way way way more than someone like you could possibly imagine.

There is always that worry. Hence using PayPal to pay for your own protection in the event it does happen.

Yeah, but 4 years in and they won’t renew you (with any student discount). Must be new account, but that’s a hassle!

Not to mention the 25% discount on grand central train travel plus you can also use a rail card on top!!

I sense extreme sarcasm, but in case I’m wrong....I have both UNiDAYS and Totem - please enlighten me with what the latter’s advantage is.

Asks for pi number on the last page if you are buying new card, doesn't ask if renewing it seems

"What is your PI number?"

Unidays is obviously better as it can be used for more things but seeing as you need an academic email address for it then Totem is better than nothing as it's somewhat easier to get signed up for. It can be used for Student Prime on Amazon, but it can also be used in shops, restaurants, cinemas, museums, etc for discounts. Like I say, if you can't get a Unidays account then Totem will enable you to get at least some of the benefits of student discounts.

Agreed, all I’m saying is it’s a matter of time before there’s nothing worth having on there, so £13 could probably be almost as well spent on a Meerkat Deals etc. Businesses are well aware at how lax they’ve been and is why less and less worth having are on there.

Ahh so this may only be for renewals then. Sorry guys! Maybe worth going through the list of unis see if any others give the option of home delivery?? or maybe make up a pi number? Most academies ask you to verify by logging into the academies active directory. Open university does not have that option. Be hard for them to verify I suppose.

Personally I renew annually purely for the ISIC card. I've used the 6 month Amazon student promo each time on a different account and in this country it's handy for the bus and one or two other things.
Don't forget to try certain sites for "student" prices. Just be sure to double check that there aren't any age restrictions (had that in the US). I've used my cards a lot recently to get student priced flights for long haul trips - if you book way in advance it might not make much of a difference, but booking a couple of weeks prior to flying, you can save a chunk. Plus there's the discounts I can get when overseas.

Spotify is proving to be a right royal pain in the posterior when it comes to setting up payment for an overseas account. Thankfully I was in Manila when I set mine up!
I did the workaround for Google Play Music which I'm pretty happy with.

Your PI Number is on ur account details in your open university account you created. I'm not enrolled on any course but have a PI Number.

yeah, tried to find an account link and it redirects me to open.ac.uk/acc…-pi so you 100% got lucky unless you used to be on a OU course which could explain it

But yeah I wouldn't need one for renewal anyway, as I wouldn't be using OU
Edited by: "ukheather" 19th Jun
telling me my PI Code isnt valid, do i have to actually sign up to a free cours on the OU site?
I have a friend who always buys a unidays account off eBay. They have never had an issue with those up until recently when it ran out after 6 months instead of 12.

That same friend has an NUS card too. Bought for three years to save the hassle in 12 months. Scanned a copy of card and sent to amazon and prime was up instantly
