Students can save up to 50% off dining out (Gourmet Society) with NUS card

Ah thanks, I might purchase this tomorrow. It says on the website that this card gives you up to 40/50% off at the cinema.

Blaat_blaat

student one is 1 time purchase, didnt know about the cinema was that nus or gs?

Bler

Ah, my NUS card is expiring soon which is why I was thinking of purchasing it. Plus it gave you money off at the cinema. Just out of interest was it a one time purchase or are you in a contract as someone in the comments on my dead said something about Gourmet Society was hard to cancel but I’m guessing the student one is a one time purchase.

Blaat_blaat

i bought it last year with the nus card because they said you could get 50% discount now, if you search through the nud site for the restaurants that support the GS NUS card you will notice its only a few and tend to be the same ones the NUS support already and if you check the extra discount its nearly nothing extra than when you want to claim the discount you need yo show your normal NUS card wich if yoy bought it extra will have the smallest GS logo on there somewhere i can hardly read it. Anyway i find it useless as its hard to just walk into a place and say do you do GS NUS discount, they tend to know NUS and GS but not the combination of both

Bler

The cinema ticket discount was another reason why I wanted to buy this. Do you have the student card and is it a one time purchase or are you stuck in a yearly auto renew contract which you have to cancel?

Best tip in cash

fergee

That is scandalous, I always ask if I tip by card.

Norseg

Why would they do this, they should know that their would be a huge backlash Its obvious, I personally don't tip and don't think people should expect a tip either but this policy is stupid, they should let their workers get the whole amount.

RedRain

Sorry even tho they changed their policy they will not see a penny from me was disgusting what they try to get away with https://www.theguardian.com/money/2015/sep/25/las-iguanas-changes-controversial-tipping-policy

As far as I'm aware, after looking on the trainline website, I can't see an option for an NUS discount. So, I don't think so. =(

AmmarM98

Haha, I didnt mean discount the trains that would be odd... trainline.com as far as I know sells coach tickets too. So was wondering if I could use in conjuction with the lower prices (i assume) found on trainline.com

DealsIUsed

Sorry for the late response. I don't believe NUS cards discount trains, the closest thing they can do for that is buy a 16-25 Railcard (1 year, not 3) for a SLIGHTLY discounted rate of 12% (knocks £3.60 off total price). EDIT: After looking, there are a FEW services which offer discounts like Crosscountry and TransPennine Express but that's all I managed to find.

AmmarM98

probably a silly question but would this work buying the ticket from trainline.com?

sb170

It is cheaper than the train for me £25 for coach with a journey time of 10hrs 30m with two changes as apposed to 6 hrs and one change on train costing £50, I think I would still choose the train in my case. Hot if the journey is short.

Only 20% off when I click through

sarkymark1

You would be better off getting a coachcard for £12 a year which offers a real discount. Nus discounts don't work out as cheap

jamie015

Most National Express discounts are fake. They take you through a special URL where you input the code but everything is more expensive or about the same price. Sometimes they give smaller discounts on their main site (such as 10% off) that actually makes a difference so those are worth a look out for

zararh

Mine came up with an error

kashta

I tried the link with the student discount, it was almost double the normal price from London to Norwich and they didn't offer direct routes either. I was very disappointed as they are creating some sort of algorithm to charge students more. So please check the non student price first.

I went to my local Coop to pick up the £5 frozen meal deal. I gave the cashier my Coop membership card first which she scanned. I then went to give her my NUS card but was told that you can't use both at the same time - is this correct information? Thank you.

LeoMike

As most of the society names imply most of these co-ops operate in very small localised areas and have a small number of stores (most less than 50). Many of the smaller co-ops operate a very distinct branding that sets them aside from 'the co-op group' branding you are likely familiar with. Those people living with/near these stores will likely understand they aren't part of the larger Co-op. That said there are exceptions. Three of the larger area co-ops (more than a 200 stores each), namely Midcounties, Southern and Central England operate in areas that are overlapped by the larger Co-op Group. They also adopted the common lime green branding a few years back to bring a consistent feel to the overall co-op brand (there are some tell tale signs of who owns what in the stores). This worked too well in that most people don't even realise they are different companies. Co-op Group are currently re-branding to a blue style brand with a re-imaging of the old cloverleaf COOP logo. The other societies are not currently changing their brand. Co-op Group operate a unified store finder that details which Co-op's are operated by which society. Always worth a look when chasing deals at co-ops to avoid dissapointment.

Stompa

Well as it says: Discount available in 3,200+ Co-op owned stores nationwide including those within the following Co-operative societies: Midcounties Southern Please note, the below Co-operative Societies do NOT accept NUS extra Heart of England Chelmsford Channel Islands Seaton Valley Radstock Penrith Tamworth Allendale Wooldale Clydebank Lincolnshire Coniston Central England Scottish Midland I've no idea how many stores are in each group.

Guys my NUS has been suspended. How about yours?

I suspect mine has been cancelled as when I login to my account and try to use some of the online offers I am not given the link to click through other than "Get a card to claim this discount" Fortunately I have hammered the discount in the little time I have had it and worked every time abroad on a recent holiday. Anyone got a spare code kicking about?

Nugg.Duff

It costs £12 pound how is that a discount

ST3123

Yeah, it's been around ages. I don't think people realise it's single use as the previous code for 5% was multi-use till it expired. Aside from that, enough with the bloody Fifa deals, like every other deal on here seems to be for Fifa 18 at close to RRP. Wouldn't mind if any of them were actually much cheaper but like any new game it's too early to see any worthwhile discount, not that for me there could be one less than 100% for Fifa anyway, most flogged to death franchise going...
