Great find have some heat

I've bought a 9800 gt, same spec for 76 quid + vat from MD recently.
As cards go you cant fault it for the money.
It's easilly 4 times faster than my old 6800GT (which was no slouch in it's time!).

Slim

If I buy 5 of these to run in SLI mode does it mean I have too much money ?

i thought you could only run 3 gfx cards in SLI :?

How much better is this compared to the 8800GT 512MB?

It is basically the same card except it is using a smaller chip ( please correct me if I'm wrong) meaning it can run at a higher clock due to less heat being given out so in essence you are getting about 10% more performance than an 8800 GT. If you have an 8800 GT then I suggest you don't upgrade but if you don't have a good graphics card go for this one sure thing

Anyone know thats the fan noise like on these? I wouldnt mind replacing my old passive 8600gt.

This is Great Card & GR8 Price but it's cheaper here @ Play (£89.99) inc Free P&P

play.com/PC/…ard

Cold, same as an 8800gt, they only added 1 feature I think to the 9800gt... 8800gt can be had cheaper

Nope, this is literally the same card with a BIOS flash.

Incorrect product description. "112 processor cores"

Just thought id point it out

Not really, each stream processor is effectively a fully functional core in itself, and this card has 112 SPs.

Erm.
I've got about £50 to upgrade my X1650.
Should I go the bookies and take a punt on an evens bet - or should I go for the cheaper 256mb 8800Gt that was on here the other week?

And are these things loud...I hate loud fans.

Yes.. more than sense anyway as you would be better off getting a GTX 280 or HD 4870 and using SLI/Crossfire with these.

This 9800 looks like a good price, I'm looking for a card at the moment. It's between this and the 4850. I think the 4850 lies in the best preformance/price bracket but I'm not sure about ATi's drivers.

Not sure about this particular one but I've got a 9800GT and it's pretty quiet, both in windows and during gaming sessions.

A pretty significant difference from my old ATI X1950Pro, that sounded like a 747 on take-off!

No, you're not losing it. The 9800 GT is based on a smaller manufacturing process as you stated and this gives the benefits that you also stated.

9800GT=8800GT. It does overclock better, but it doesnt get 10% automatic performance improvment like Nammo said. I also doubt it overclocks 10% more. In addition, the first 9800GTs (G92 vs G92b) didnt even have a die shrink so it is possible these are those.

But anyway, this will always be the better buy. £14 more for much better performance.

scan.co.uk/Pro…439 - please note not actually correct picture of card.

you can get free delivery on this item, I'm sure theres a thread on it here somewhere.

gpureview.com/sho…544 - Identical specs.

I have a 9800GT (an ExpertVision one) and the fan when it runs idle has an incredibly high pitched whine which is JUST loud enough to hear, and very irritating.
When the fan speeds up the whine goes away. Unfortunately in Vista and playing games like Day of Defeat Source at full quality settings at 1680*1050 the card never actually gets hot enough for the fan to speed up!!
Performance wise though this is a great card for the money.

or maybe u should read into matched betting and stop ur gambling habit

Cold. Cheaper at Scan, and not even today only. Scan has had this one for £78 before. And most people have free del with Scan - it's virtually a voucher code by now... £83.41 del for many.

looks like I will be upgrading my old 6800GT to this baby
