I'm currently using a Linx Vision to stream xbone games to and run a few Steam games. How does this compare? Does it only stream Steam games from a PC or do they run natively?

TIA

If you have an Nvidia GPU you can run origin, uplay, steam games among other from your PC to this device.

Can't believe these. Gone up in price since launch. Had a fire sale at 99 now back in stock at £169

Be aware a new version is due next year according to many sources.

But very good for kodi and emulators

I have an nvidia card but in geforce experience it only finds something like 40 or 50 games.... Loads aren't found. Im guessing only the found ones will show up on a shield?

Bought it at £99, worth that... Wouldn't pay the ever increasing price because it will be replaced soon.

Is it any better than a steam link?

I sold mine as all I did was watch Kodi/plex.... in all honesty unless you are going to use it for it strengths, i.e gaming.... you might as well get the new Xiaomi 4K streamer... they are googles new partner for Android TV.... so save yourself some cash....

it is complete overkill just for a streaming box IMO, nit saying it is not a great device, far from it... but it is like buying a ferrari to only ever drive in a 20mph zone

The box I believe Aeschylus mentioned is the Xiaomi MiBox - but it's not on sale in the UK yet, was only released in the US in October.

Also, I believe it's not a Netflix certified box...just mentioning as if you wanted to use Netflix you wouldn't be able to get 4K or possibly even HD.

For Kodi/Plex though it should do the job very well.

An alternative is the Fire TV (2nd Gen with 4k) - depending on what you want to do with it - but that can take Kodi and Plex and is certified by netflix (and obviously Amazon) and so can stream 4k from pretty much all legitimate sources

you can get it from gearbest or ebay... I got mine on Ebay for £75.... Gearbest is £65....

Brilliant box and getting rave reviews.... it is a Nvidia Shield without the bits no one uses

I have a Amazon 4k box and I swear if Apple pulled the crap Amazon do they would get slammed..... I have never used a box that puts their own content so in your face, especially this new update (which they claim is to make it feel more like a cinema)

Looks good, but unfortunately I will only be buying from Amazon, as I have nearly £50 of vouchers to use in my account... I'm currently looking at a Nexbox A1 (2GB ram/16GB storage, Android 6.0.1, 2G and 5G wifi) which fits my budget nicely, but I'm willing to take advice if anyone can suggest a better one!

Oh, and I don't need Netflix, and will mainly be using Kodi, so that doesn't bother me...

just be aware what you are getting into, there are very few android TV boxes.... but there are millions of Android boxes... I have had loads, and I find them frustrating and uber annoying...android was never meant to work well on TV's so you end up needing an air mouse etc...so just be aware of the subtle difference.... Android TV OS, purpose built for TV...Android Boxes...OS made to work on TV's

It packs Android TV, making Kodi just an easy app installation away. It's also 4K-compatible, has a nippy quad core 2GHz processor and is even available at a reasonable cost in both the USA ($100) and UK (£89).The one odd omission? No gigabit ethernet. The G-Box Q2's ethernet speeds top out at 100gbps, which could potentially bottleneck 4K streams. That said, at least it includes the latest wireless-ac standard of Wi-Fi.

yeah, but Kodi devs have openly said not to buy a box with s912 chip as they wont be supporting it as it is buggy as hell, so Iwould go for a S905 chipset box if you really want to go the chinese route

The boxes mentioned above are cheap and functional. They don't act as a Plex server which if you like using Plex its a good cheap solution as apposed an always on computer or NAS. From a Plex point of view the Shield can transcode every thing I have ever thrown at it and do so to more than one device and remotely too. I had a £250 Nas that couldn't do this job, so a Shield at around the £170 with all its extra functions is good value for my uses. Also the interface isn't the slick voice searchable Android TV one you get with the Shield. Budget devices are all well and good but as I recently found out with my cheap Renault paying cheap can't byte you.

Explained all the ins and out to him, he wants Kodi and a cheap box...... in responce to your other points, I have never met anyone who does not think the shield is hands down the best box on the market..... but my god it is overkill for a lot of stuff...

and the moment Google announced their new Android TV partners it was good news for everyone, as it meant more competition, as before it was Nexus Box (discontinued) Razer Box (Just dont go there) or the shield....

Now we have the Xaomi box, and getting rave reviews..... it is like the perfect box for those of us who dont need the grunt and power of the shiled

My gaming PC is over kill, I still like the flashing lights and the satisfying way it boots up games in hardly no time at all... I wouldn't trade the shield for any other device, been there done that and then bought Shield again. Currently I own two shields. Its likely as things move on that Nvidia will move the Shield console closer and closer to an actual console/ hybrid gaming PC. Microsoft clearly has intention to make some kind of hybrid console PC moving forward.

The Xiaomi MiBox looks brilliant, but unfortunately it's not (currently) available on Amazon...

I'm only considering Amazon because we have recently had a baby, so finances are tight, but now we've got everything we currently need for the baby we want to treat ourselves to a TV box by using the last of our Amazon vouchers... Do you think there is any chance that the MiBox will be available on Amazon soon, if at all? I'm assuming that vouchers can only be used on items that say "fulfilled by Amazon"...

I would expect at some point but not for a while, you could always buy 2 copies of Steep £24.99 take them to CEX and trade for an Apple TV £110

but in all honesty just treat yourself to a chinese box..... no point spending money you dont have to...or if you have AMazon prime get a fire stick or fire box....DONT get a Roku as Kodi does not work on them

or if you really want the Xiaomi box, do a drop ship on Amazon....choose a popular product on amazon, sell on ebay, when it is bought ship it directly to the buyer, you then have your amazon gift certificate in usable as paypal currency
