If this is true, I may very well take the plunge on this as I was very unhappy with the Roku I bought recently.

Do you know if it's possible to replace the storage, or in worst case add to it?

It has USB ports so you add storage that way. Portable HDD, flash drives, etc.

I literally just read that online. Excellent. I hope they do the deal on the one with the controller. It's only £10 more on Amazon, so they might shift more if they do that.
If it had the controller that would be awesome

The controller is awful, I'd use a different one if you can. A wired Xbox controller works not sure what else that's all I've tried
I believe you can use a PS4 V2 controller with it wirelessly...
Nothing wrong with controller, i havs 5 of them. I prefer the new smaller style ones though. But absolutely nothing wrong with them. Of course some people may not prefer them for whatever reason.
I was getting quite excited about this until the lack of optical output and SD card slot is pointed out in the video. Both essential for me.
Recently received the Oreo update, which helps the storage situation. Previously I could only add a USB3 as an additional drive, and some apps didn't support it - some apps would only use internal storage, and Plex Server wouldn't use the external drive as a scratch drive when encoding. Now, the external storage is seen as a part of the internal storage, Plex Server works beautifully and all apps install across both drives.

Sounds like you haven’t updated in a while then. That usb storage improvement wasn’t brought in by the Oreo update. It came out more than 12 months ago. I don’t personally use usb as internal storage - I just added a 128gb micro sd from day one and combined that with internal instead.
Trying to justify this to replace a Roku Plus stick. Is it fairly slick in use? I really just want a stable, quick streamer with a reasonable level of app support and 4K DV/HLG etc for Netflix et al.

The SD card issue should be easy to get around with a USB > SD adapter, optical would still be the problem for you though.

Personally hoping for a deal on the controller bundle.
The Nvidia Shield has got even better with free access to the really impressive Geforce Now Beta. Streaming Assassins Creed Origins at 4K on Ultra settings is mind blowing

I would want to add to the internal memory. A USB stick or micro SD card in an USB adapter could be unplugged by mistake and cause problems.
Can this play fortnite? Without GeForce now? Thinking of getting it for my son
Brilliant bit of kit. I have this and an Apple 4K TV under my TV and use this way more.

It's nice to use and the UI has just had an upgrade last month. The best thing is using it with Plex and Netflix. I can stream 4K HDR content from my Plex server with no problems (the Shield can also act as a Plex server if you want it to). Netflix 4K also looks great in HDR (no Dolby Digital) and you can also add a VPN (I use NordVPN) fairly easily to get access to Netflix USA.

All in all I wouldn't be without it.

If I get one of these I will be adding USB storage probably as extended internal memory, Blu Tack it, put a big label on it, put a hub/extension cable in the second slot so no-one ever has to go near the ports, plenty of ways to help prevent someone from making a silly mistake of unplugging the adapter. I'm pretty sure the Shield won't burst into flames if the thing is unplugged.

There are HDMI > Optical splitters around as well, so it's possible that issue could also be cured, no idea how well or badly they work though.

I've had this for a few weeks now and its a great bit of kit. Installed kodi without any problems and watch netflix and prime. Its got a slick fast UI but for me the game streaming has excelled all my expectations, I have it linked with my steam account. Luckily I have an Nvidia Geforce graphics card in my pc so it streams games flawlessly across my local network. On the sheild I'm currently streaming COD Infinite warfare from my pc and getting 125 fps. I don't have any problems with the controller, for me its just as good as the xbox 1.
Shame the Shield doesn’t do Atmos or Dolby Vision on its Netflix

This worth it over a standard 2gb chinese box which runs kodi/apps fine currently?

What more does this offer....
I’ve just got a 4K tv and looking for something to replace my ageing n54L microserver - can this play locally stored 4K video or is it not powerful enough?

From everything I've read this is the most powerful device of its type on the market and it can play 4K HEVC 10bit without breaking sweat, local or otherwise.

There isn't an Android version of Fortnite yet, apparently it's coming soon.
Incidentally GeForce Now is flippin' amazing. A wide number of games can be streamed for free, providing you already own them in your Steam/uPlay etc library. I was playing Assassins Creed Origins last night at 4K and frankly it was incredible. I didn't have to stream from my PC....almost makes me regret my GTX1080Ti purchase :O Then again I think it's currently in beta and will attract a subscription fee in the future. Tech wise however, it's great.
Does this have all cafcho apps
Doesn't this have pretty much the same CPU/GPU as the Nintendo Switch?

You could use a decent external drive or usb stick for storage. You can get usb to optical adapters but agreed it's a shame it's not there by default.
this is still the pinnacle of Kodi hardware isn't it?

I think maybe once the prime day starts. Thats at 12. It's just a leak right now, amazon hasn't confirmed this. Although I think it is 100% coming up. Amazon US will have it for 139$.

Doesn't matter much, it works fine via CEC - meaning you can control it from any relatively modern TV remote anyway.

eh? I'm talking about ALL the deals, you can see them and the start time right now (except all the good stuff, natch). But they are in a random order, doesn't seem to be a way to sort by start time as before...
