EDIT: DOES support HD audio bitstreaming - anandtech.com/sho…als -thanks @Wildman !

I've been waiting for Steam Link, will this do the same (stream any game from my PC) but with the added Android TV?
and my other question is, does this have casting ability. could I replace my Chromecast with this?
This thing is awesome. Way more of a complete media centre than the steam link. A word of warning, to stream to for gaming you need a powerful rig. And prepare to tear your hair out because you need to reinstall Geforce experience everything you want to stream. It still hasn't been fixed. Android version itself is bland and you cannot customise it. But all in all its brilliant
*everytime you want to stream
Over priced for what it is. They just want to pip other companies ( of which there are many) due to release their own box3s / subscriptions

But then I found that there isn't currently HD audio passthrough as well as other niggles: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/836487/shield-android-tv/codec-support-

I think you need a Nvidia GeForce GPU-equipped PC. But I don't know much about that scene.
I'm in the Apple ecosystem so not in the market for this product but agree it's good and this is a hot price.

If you read the spec on the Game website, it does have cast built in yeah. Not sure what devices are compatible with but as far as I know iPhone and Android phones will work.

Don't forget you can sign up to GeForce Now for £7.50 which gives you access to a shed load of PC games to stream. Basically Netflix for games. I think it has a 3 month trial period which is pretty awesome too.
I know its rrp so not technically a deal but I thought this would come in at £199 as its $199! so this is a good price. went for the 500 GB version as you can never have enough storage. my Sony 4k TV is waiting! and got the remote as well.

I stream from my gaming pc upstairs to the low powered htpc and my laptop using Steam home streaming - so far so good.

Quite interested in this, though will wait for the inevitable £99 since it doesn't really do anything I can't do already.
Is this better than the Amazon Fire TV 4K?

Thanks

It's meant to be faster, so I'd imagine it eliminates any lag experienced on the firestick (if any)

IMHO, Yes. Unless you use primarily Amazon services, this is stock Android so no hassle, Play, and they seem to release updates to new Android versions pretty quickly (based on Shield Tab).
This is hot, smoking hot, I love my shield TV as do the other users who imported it from Amazon.com. I strongly erg you to sell your rokus, fire TVs and chrome casts this is by far the best 4K full android console money can buy. Amazing Kodi htpc or plex client into the bargain, plus it has chrome cast for your now tv, iplayer needs. Incidentally it is still cheaper to import than buy in the UK as import fees from Amazon.com are refunded once delivered. The only issue is you don't get a UK power plate though not a problem as you can now obtain those too. No issue with returns either as posters on the list below will attest. Personally for the sake of ease I would just buy the UK version now it was a pain for me to get a UK power plate out of Nvidia.

supports 4k @60, so is better than the fire tv for 4k content
Would it be worth the extra £70 for the 500GB model?
remember guys Nvidia Stream launched today

8$ a month
I wish they also sold it with the media remote and not this controller
Wait, you have to buy the remote separately?

How do you control it if you dont buy the remote?
Edited by: "Vorm" 1st Oct 2015
tempted but im waiting till xmas for the inevitable shift in price. this will be the ultimate kodi machine but going to hang on.
This is for the 16GB version - on amazon the 500GB version is £219.99 but currently OOS. I really want this but I think I'll wait for the 500GB version to drop a bit. Nice deal - heat!

Shame the controller has the d-pad at the top rather than bottom, wonder how much could flog it for on eBay.

Is this new? Amazon refunding import fees once delivered? I never knew about that.

That's really the future, and it's also now present. I can see people even ditching gaming PC's in favour of a streaming service like this where a computer is no longer needed. I wouldn't, but if it goes in the direction of having every game, and being a really good service, i can image some will.

it is not, and can not be relied on, if your parcel does not get spotted by customs, Amazon dont get charged. ergo you get a refund... it is a gamble

Ah, hang on; you get the game controller with the base package - bingo!

Missed that one.

Oh alight that makes sense. How would you find out if it was spotted though, do you have to raise the issue with amazon for them to check if customs processed it?

Bit of a con that. There are 50 or games available to stream, but the big titles you actually need to buy.....
do yourselves a favour.

Don't be taken in by the nvidia marketing machine.

I had the shield tablet and it was a terrible device.

The shield forums have lots of people complaining about the broken game stream.

The only good thing with the tablet is that because the battery design was poor they had to recall it, which meant i had a new device to sell.

The shield tablet:

- terrible wifi
- terrible build quality
- features would break ---- game stream for me hasnt worked for months, eventually i got it working by using the moonlight app.

- nvidia make promises about games coming out and then dont deliver.
Warthunder never appeared on the shield
Hawken never appeared on the shield handheld
They release half life 2 and episode 1 on the shield but then say that episode 2 is exclusive to the shield tv due to hardware.
- they release updates full of bugs, one update blew the speakers on lots of tablets, generally every update made things worse not better.

I would go for the fire tv 4k and install moonlight on it, at least you will have a 4k player that works and better customer service.

After a year of having a shield with its broken features and frustrating bugs I was done.

superb device, had one for a few months and love it, it has replaced my htpc, simply because of the use of apps, and the game streaming from PC is very handy

na, it is automatic, Amazon are good like that, basically if they don't get hit with a custom charge you get it back, looks like customs is suffering with cutbacks as I did read a lot of these got through... but you know it is a toss of a coin

just reading on Neo-gaf that it is not that great, but the first 3 months are free according to them so might as well use that

amazing machine, i have one/ had one for over 2 months and it plays anything you throw at it without any problems. 100% better than the AFTV

yes, does everything a chromecast does as it is an Android TV,

not really as android M will allow you to unify the storage,. which Nvidia have confirmed is coming.
