Disagree with the comments on here. Had my 1st gen one for a few years. Probably one of the best bits of tech I own.

Prior to it, was using a HTPC for kodi (openelec) and before that XBMC on the first xbox.

Use mine for Netflix, YouTube, Kodi, Airplay and Mirroring my Mac.
Plays everything I throw at it with no lag or slowdowns whatsoever.

Not really a fan of emulators but have them

Perfect android TV box.
No faffing trying to update kodi (unlike with fire sticks)
Plays all of my older content thats kept on an external HDD.
Positive it will continue to be used for another good few years.
Great price, but I have to be honest and say I have found mine a total disappointment.

I don't game, so maybe I am missing it's benefits there, but I bought it as the ultimate Kodi/IPTV etc. box, and it's not great.

The remote is the most annoying thing in the world, hugely unresponsive, despite there being a remote software update virtually every time I switch it on!

You purchased this in 2015. so that will be the original 2015 model, this is the 2017 model which also has an improved controller. Additionally a deal can surely only be cold if; there is a better price out there at the time(if so provide evidence please), the retailer is dodgy(amazon is very good imho), or there is a better comparible product out there(cheaper boxes yes, but not with this unique feature-set), also unless you can also time travel, then deals from 3 years ago are COLD. thanks

Use your TV remote by enabling HDMI CEC. I have an lg TV and switch on simplink to enable this. Never use the shield remote to navigate the device, only the controller for games.

This is the best device I ever bought, it's my Plex server, IPTV, game console and also live TV box (via hd homerun)

Is this like a steam link but a lot better?

I wish I can burn the remote. The most terrible remote in the world.

This is an Android based box which can stream from a PC if you have a Nvidia GPU or you can subscribe to Nvidia's service.

Streaming games is just one of the things it can do, it's one of the best Android boxes out there AFAIK for Streaming, playing games, etc.

Although may be overkill depending on your needs.

If you have a spare Fire Stick without a mic lying around, that does work with the Shield.

Personally I just use my Harmony remote, only time I'd use the Shield remote is if I need the headphone jack.

I sold mine. Apple TV 4K is better for what I use it for

I had an issue with the remote then connected via cable and paired it up again. Worked wonders, have you tried this?
Can I use this to play fortnight

Have you tried using your TV remote, mine works fine with an LG Magic Remote over HDMI-CEC.

I don't think my remote has any sockets for a cable? It's the later model, I think they changed for 2017.

I haven't tbh no, though I have an LG with Magic remote so will give it a try, cheers.
Been waiting for this to drop a bit in price. Now you've made me spend £150 that I really shouldn't be. Oh what will the wife say when this turns up!!!

I'm wondering what mine will say also.....looks a good media player but does it support now tv does anyone know
These are great I've got 2, old type and new type. No troubles with the remotes, they are both excellent.

No
I was sure at some event last year they showed the awesome new android tv but it never seemed to happen still on the usual version.

It could be brilliant but very few games from the app store actually work on it, same with apps! Massive compatibility issues.. .

It doesn't pass through Dolby sound too through HDMI you need an extra usb device.

I rarely use mine tbh, just put on the ufc on Sundays
I wish they'd discount the game controller on its own :-(
Does anyone know any shops that stock the k1 tablet these days ?

Yes it does support nowtv via cast. Used it today for the Liverpool derby.

This is something Now TV fixed about a year ago.

Shield as for gaming it's not the best thing.
Gaming through lan/wifi will always ad some milliseconds of latency, which is really annoying in most of the games.

As media device its brilliant.
Netflix, amazon prime video, YouTube, and especially Plex works great.
Plex server don't need to transcode any files, which is great

Regarding remote yours most be faulty.
My remote is the most responsive one I've ever had.
I'm using is as the only remote at all, as my TV and AV receiver is getting switched through hdmi-cec.
The only update I ever had was when I switched the Shield for a first time. Nothing since that.

Only thing annoys me on a daily basis is stupid volume touch control on the remote.
Who the hell on earth had stupidest idea in human history, to replace physical buttons with this touchy crap.

I bet it looks awful tho. I cancelled Now TV. Hopefully it will be 1080p soon with decent audio

Well my son plays tons of games and never had any compatibility issues. Dolby output also works perfectly fine, I use mine all the time connected to my AVR. Maybe it's the media player you're using.

Yes but only if you cast it.
Works perfectly when I cast from my phone or tablet.

Really, can you elaborate?

Spec says this...

Dolby Atmos

TrueHD

7.1/5.1 pass-through

DTS-X

DTS-HD Master Audio pass-through

Hi-Res Audio Playback (up to 24-bit/192 kHz)
Is it much cop for gaming - I presume it's performance is tied largely to your PC? Debating getting this, or an X-box One X and a Roku Plus stick for 4K/HDR streaming and gaming.

Do you have any tips for side loading apps?
Great price, I love my shield as it brings together pretty much all media platforms I use. It evens streams from my old laptop games, (old games). But the best thing is that it is easy to use, so that even my partner understands it
Still very operatives at £150 imo.
Bought one of the 500gb ones to use as a plex server and it was not up to the job. After the 10th time of reindexing I gave up.
If your lucky during checkout keep an eye open for Amazon wallet top-up offer (top-up £30 get £6.00 free or spend £50 for £5.00) the free £6 or £5 is usually added to Amazon account after 24 hours.
wow didn't really need it but I have ordered one.

If you're just buying it for media though apart from size of it you can do all of that possibly cheaper with a used Ps4 or xbox one plus you could also play latest games too & blu-rays

Don't really understand spending £150 on this if not gaming when you can do the same for less with probably a better user experience.

I use my Xbox X for Plex, Amazon Prime etc, the kids were using a 360 to do the same but now have my old One.

I cant get 5.1 and my set up is NVidia shield into Samsung tv out to Sonos. Same way gets 5.1 from my ps4 pro so my tv definitely passes through sound through hdmi.

Loads of threads with confused people;

Im sure you need some kind of adaper

I would suggest an x box would be the best option probably with it having kodi too, seems like a better option that this these days - Unless yiou love retro gaming
