I haven't looked into it too far, but I've done some research around this based on your enthralling query and have come up with some truly fascinating theories.

My main conclusion from this research is that when the user refers to the noun "kit", they're referring to the electronic equipment, as you put it. This took a while to figure out, almost like a translation, but I cracked it eventually. To verify this, I sought counsel from associates of the late James Murray, founder of the Oxford Dictionary. They kindly provided the following:

The second part of this conclusion is self explanatory. When the user utilises the adjective "great" to describe the former defined noun "kit", they're expressing a positive opinion towards said item and stating that they believe the electronic equipment, as you put it, is a good purchase.

Overall, I think from this we can see that by "a great bit of kit", most users mean "some good, impressive electronic equipment".

I hope this answers your utterly inspiring question and gives you some insight into basic English language.

Got mine with the remote only as I use my Bluetooth xbox controller. Good deal if you need everything though.
I haven't paired my Xbox controller yet but the bundled controller seems good enough, and its handy to just pick it up and go rather than faffing with pairing between this, my Xbox and PC (but also nice to have the option, especially for two player co-op games)

Great bit of kit, heat

I’m a casual gamer and thinking of upgrading my xbox 360 to a one s and wondering if this is comparable? I don’t have a pc so would subscribe. What can I expect? Is streaming good enough? Is the catalogue big enough? Is it just £8 a month or whatever and I can access new releases? Thanks. I’ve googled a bit but not extensively, wondered if someone could sell it to me

Does it work fine?
Is this worth me buying. I’ve got the XBOX one X and a 4K tv. Any info appreciated
This or Roku? :P

Can't help but feel these should be cheaper. It's dying for an android tv update, most tv apps you would expect don't even work on it. Even side loading bt doesn't work anymore.

Powerful for games bit don't expect any good android games to be compatible on it too

Only really worth the money if you are doing emulating etc

Emulating, streaming via NVIDIA, 4K HDR Netflix, 4K Plex, IPTV, Amazon Prime... Plenty of stuff to do with it, and plenty of apps for it too
Wrong section buddy!.. Put it back in gaming section!..
@ah_heng This is a similar to a Roku, but has Chromecast functionality built in as well as Android games and Nvidia game streaming, from their servers or from a local gaming PC. I would say get this, but it is probably double the cost of the Roku - its up to you whether the extra £100 for the gaming and Chromecast functionality is worth it.

@pow26@kpmatthews unless you have a gaming PC to stream from or you are willing to pay a sub to stream older games from Nvidia, then this just plays Android games you can get for your phone. It is not comparable to an Xbox One and you can not stream from your Xbox to this. If your focus is gaming and you do not have a PC, stick with the Xbox One.

@Istanbul_Kop I'm a techie, I talk in tech and tools. Translation - this is a good product well worth your hard earned monies
Never realised you could pair an XB1 controller with this. Is that easy to do?
Anyone know if they have this in store?

If this was my main tv service device I would be disappointed... more tv apps on Samsung tizen. And every game I buy from the store isn't compatible!!! It's good don't get me wrong I just think they could make it so much better, and for a company like Google I don't understand why they don't it would be easy to do you would imagine. Supposed to be a new android tv update soon too I think? Watched some YouTube videos of it a whole back bit no update yet

For example...

play.google.com/sto…sam

This would be perfect on it! Use the proper game pad and it could easy handle the game with it's power. Not compatible!!! Or at least it wasn't when I checked last ha. Google could make this console so good which would make developers make better android games etc. But it's just not all connecting right with android tv yet

No, your comments are utterly useless, and miss the main point entirely. The question is not what the phrase means, it is why those specific words, namely 'kit' - is used.

Really!!! Can't you see this belongs in the gaming section?!! Should have gone to Specsavers, blind foureyes!!!
I've had mine for two years now and use it daily for all my streaming needs. It can handle an awful lot thats thrown at it, and it was important for me that it would be supported long term by Nvidia as opposed to many, many cheaper, less powerful android boxes.

And it should stay in the gaming section only!.. It's bloody hard navigating any section with all these irrelevant deals that we have to sieve through!

Gonna add to the list of people recommending this - I've had mine for ages now and use it daily for all sorts of things. Runs emulators well, streams anything you would want, and if you have a gaming PC you can play on the TV without undoing all your wiring. Really great product.

Small caveat, I wouldn't buy it JUST to play games unless you have a PC. You'd be better served by a console.
Is it worth paying more for the pro version?
I have version 1 of this device and it is the absolute bollox!!

That's your opinion, people buy these and never play a game on them ever, it has capabilities relevant to a number of sections.

In any case this deal was reviewed by a mod before it went live, take it up with them.

I believe it will only display apps which have been made available to Android TV - I may be wrong though. I have not installed much because most of what I need is already installed - including Kodi
Does anyone know if you can stream football manager through nvidia using the shield? I'm just trying to ascertain whether that particular game is supported. Can't seem to find an answer online
It better be as good you you all are saying. Lol
I have been lucky today. Steal at £129

Pure luck. I happen to pop into the store and there was one on the shelf. Either a return or someone changed their mind. So I asked for the sale discount to be applied in addition to the clearance discount.

Yeah right, that's why they called it Nvidia Shield TV, and why it runs the android tv platform, not to mention how nvidia market this themselves.

Go search youtube for this device and see how much content is actually for gaming and how much is for streaming.

Anyway congratulations you've made it onto my mute list with the other dicks.

Considering the controller is £60 alone, you could have sold it on eBay for half that and had an even better deal.
