Great. Been after one...I wonder of we'll see a greater discount elsewhere though in the next week. Especially on the Pro model.

Still not near the magic £99 it was last year. Cmon sellers reduce reduce! Still nice find OP

Pic misleading? It's £149 without the controller. Remote only.

If you buy the Nvidia shield TV with the controller for £159 you can sell the controller for around £40 (minus fees) on ebay.. try and get one of the ebay final value fee promotions on here and your final price for the nvidia tv and remote should be around £120-130

Too expensive, purchased this last year and cheaper. Tech should be getting cheaper not dearer

£159 with controller

I've been watching for the shield to drop down in price for weeks.. wasn't sure if it would appear on a black Friday deal or not this deal appears to end on Monday? Do you guys think I should hold off to see if it appears anywhere else or is £50 off a bargain I'm likely to beat anywhere else? Aaaah decisions! 🤔

I got the first gen of this when I saw it here a couple of years ago for £100. My best tech purchase for a long time!
Plex server, Netflix, prime video, iPlayer etc plus I have a hdhomerun so watch TV through the live channels app. Finally meant I could get all media options in one TV interface

Lots of reasons why it isn't sadly.

Pound in the toilet, shortage of supply for certain chips and increased raw material manufacturing costs for others etc etc.

get ps4 remote play and it be perfect,

hahaha for some reason i got my shield connected to my 1080 p projector and my first gen fire stick connected too my 4k tv hahah.

i got mine with controller few months back for 112, slightly used , useful for projector as it has a screen size i can set it too

Seems a bit mad, the controller is £60 on it's own, but the Shield WITH a controller is only a tenner more

Worth buying a whole new box and selling it on, if you just want another controller.

The 500Gb isn't worth the extra btw, you can add adoptable storage in the form of a fast USB stick if you need more "system" space, and you can add two removable USB storage drives (I've got 8Tb attached to mine).

Was hoping they'd have a true successor so dolphin emulator would run better

Nivdea, is that their brand of face cream?

I have a gen1 SHIELD 16GB version (was £93.98 in July 2016, Amazon Deal of The Day. ASIN: B015CM435I ...which no longer exists). It is one of my best tech purchases - awesome for KODI, Plex, Netflix, YouTube etc

However I just got a warning message this week that it was running out of space.

I thought you couldn't move the Plex cache directory to an external source (?), eg thumbails, meta. Is that incorrect?
Might be a problem for those with large libraries.

I have been considering upgrading to the 500GB model on BF - will a portable USB be able to run Plex library/cache stuff?

Sorry, I'm confused. Where is it £70?

Sorry, I'll make it clearer -

"Seems a bit mad, the controller is £60 on it's own, but the Shield WITH a controller is only a tenner more [than the Shield WITHOUT the controller]."

The 500gb is on my shopping list for BF as want to ditch as many different media devices as possible.

So I have an xbox one s, which is used for games and blu rays (so kinda two interfaces). But I have a harmony 650 remote, so you can just press "watch tv" and it turns on my TV, receiver, shield, sets the correct hdmi input and the receiver to the shield - then it controls the shield and the volume on the receiver. The I press "play game" or "watch movie" button, it turns off the shield, switched the receiver to the xbox and turns it on! Its fantastic.

You need to dedicate a USB drive to leave permanently attached, then format that drive as Internal storage.
It's a feature of Android, and it effectively "adds" that drive to the internal storage pool, so Plex cache and meta etc will be spread across the available space. I have a massive library, and a 64Gb SSD attached dedicated to Internal Storage, and never had any problems.

The main reason I want this is for the audio options offered. Atmos etc. My smart tv will only output 5.1 via optical to my receiver.

Don't think I'd even need the remote, never mind the controller.

Use my Harmony (with hub) for the remote, and one of my PS4 pads for the control (or better, I've got my eye on one of those blutooth 8bitdos to use with my futureSwitch too).

Seems like could make a good bit back if I sell those two items.

The remote *is* a bit naff, it's unresponsive quite a lot of the time.

How well does the Harmony work? Might be interested in getting a cheap one to replace the Shield one.

My Harmony works perfectly with everything I have tried. I'd imagine it would do fine with the Nvidia.

But I note that since the 2017 Nvidia Shield removed the IR sensor found in the 2015 and Pro models - you'd need the Harmony Hub as well to get it to work.

The Harmony is one of the best things I own, I wouldn't be without it. I've had maybe 4-5 models over the last 10 years or so I think. It's not just the ease of having one remote for all, it's the abilty to group everything into activities so it just simply...'works'.

Thanks. Ordered with the controller for the extra £10. I already have a controller that I got for my K1 tablet (which I think is the same) and then should get two for any games I might end up playing. For now it's primary purpose will be Plex client to upgrade the RPi3 a bit

So your harmony hub does work with the 2017 16gb version? Sorry - bit confused due to the lack of IR!

To buy or wait for Black Friday?

No, that's the original hub they made years ago and they've offered a free upgrade to the current version for anyone who has one.

The hub does bluetooth so it'll work all those awkward boxes like this and FireTVs etc.

Nice post, thanks. I've got one myself and they're the best devices for Plex and KODI. It's not a bad little games console too for light gaming. Just bought another one for my dad's Christmas present as I've been waiting for a lower price. If a better price comes in on Black Friday then no worries as this comes with a 30 days refund policy!

And is the Hub the one that works with your phone as a remote?
Questions questions!

I've given up on the Shield remote and use the controller instead, but it's a bit unwieldy just to change the channel

Yes it is but like any phone based remote it's rubbish to use. If you want one there's guaranteed to be an Amazon BF deal for the hub with one of the proper remotes, usually around 50% off RRP.

That's what I ended up doing. Going to return it if it turns up cheaper on Black Friday.
