Damn man, this argument has kinda spoilt this post. Pretty good deal for the 2019 shield.

I own the 2017 and for me, it's a fast streaming box with emulation thrown in as well as a geforce now bonus. It's the context switching that wins me over - you can switch from gaming to video and back again within seconds. It Emulates up to dreamcast really well and gamecube is a push (no ps2, just about ps1). So if your like me and you want the greatest hits of gaming, this is your box.

As for geforce now, it's really an added bonus to me and its a fantastic service for free (beta is dead but the free service serves my needs).
To be clear, geforce now and gamestream are limited to 1080p so no 4k,however you can get 120hz on some games and most at 60. The graphics for geforce now are better than a ps4 as in effect your playing a high end pc. Gamestream allows you to stream your own content from a pc in your house, geforce now is using nvidia's servers.

The 2019 also features 4k upscale for any content which runs at 1080p or less. While this is quite good, it's not perfect and actually the majority of bugs and issues are with 4k at the moment. If you get the 2019, it's worth signing up for the hotfixes as this should fix issues such as colour saturation and bleeding and bland HDR. This box will also not do Google in 4k so if YouTube in 4k is important for some reason, then do some reading.

I hope this clears things up from all the guff of these other replies.

Isn't the whole point of Gamestream that the hardware their side takes care of everything? It doesn't matter what the power of your own PC, you are just streaming your game library through their hardware?

Edit - seems I am thinking of Geforce Now.

If this can be added to the description it might help people out who want to know the stuff I did.

My work discount brings this down to £175. Tempting.

The controller is terrible that's usually packaged in
Got one of these. Works well.

You need the hotfix patch though or everyone looks red on SDR content, wish they'd push it to the stable build already

Ive got the 2017 version and these Android TV boxes are beasts if your after an all in one media device for your living room then this is the king!! 😁
I am after something which will stream from my pc to my tv in the lounge so I can play some games on the sofa. My pc doesn't have blue ray how does it connect?
I've got the 2015 version and recent updates have kinda broken it tbh. Random restarts, black screens and not going to sleep on the first time I press sleep but the second... So random

gonna be late for work now reading all that...
I've got the 2017 version. The best android TV box and it was worth the money. No issues when streaming even 4k content from YouTube, Amazon & Netflix runs buttery smooth. Kodi works fab too. Having built in chromecast is a cheery on top.. Have no issues to upgrade to the 2019 version.

PC games will stream from your desktop to the Shield itself. You’ll need to use 5ghz wifi though for the best connection or ethernet cables. Or, you could use Geforce Now and stream certain games you own from Nvidia’s servers instead.

You don’t need blu-ray to do it. Just a good wifi or ethernet connection to your router (or good internet for Geforce Now). Any games not compatible with Gamestream, you can use the Steam Link app for (as long as you own the games on Steam of course). .

Their comments have definitely tarnished the thread. It's a shame because some of the points they're arguing about are useful and informative but they got lost in the pettiness between them. So thank you Blofse for clarifying its capabilities in a short and sweet summary.

Whether it is officially classed as a console or not, as long as you understand what it can and cannot do then there is no need for anyone to argue about it.

Blooming predictive text. It has bluetooth but isn’t used for the game streaming side of it. (Other than connecting a controller or mouse and keyboard or course, but you can use USB for that too)

I am sure that this is the best box around but the price for this box is also the best around. Not yet for me as I believe this box is too expensive.

Unless you want iplayer in 4k, itv hub, all 4 and my 5 on the same box.

And no chromecasting isn't the answer.

Great box for emulation, geo force now etc however for simple streaiming it really isn't worth the near £150 over a 4K firestick just to open apps 2 seconds faster.

Looks like it's been tidied up now as they appear to have gone. Don't worry about it. It happens on hukd occasionally.

Back to the product, I was tempted for a Shield, but I wouldn't get much use out of it. I probably wouldn't stream my PC games as I would just play them on PC. I wouldn't download Android games because I have enough other games to play anyway. I'm still tempted but even if I deduct the value of the included steam voucher, and then the cost of a Chromecast (cos we may buy a second), it's still about £140-150. I'll stick to what I've got.

Feels like Sky are missing a trick with the lack of device support for NOWTV.

Even on the Apple TV where they do have an app it's so out of date and poorly implemented it's barely usable.
Has this now gone up to £199? Got checkout error and now going back in price seems to have gone up!!

Point still stands for offical supported apps android tv in the UK is sub par.
£190 for version without controller? Pricey isn't? Especially considered that is not much of a upgrade comparing to 2017
Love my 2017 model 🤟🏻
This is probably the best streamer yet, but there is a but!
