Getting rid of old stock as a announcement is coming soon?
_Slogan10/09/2019 21:36

That's what I was hoping for...

It is a great piece of kit whatever the reason

Don't wait. This will chew through everything you throw at it, 4k, HDR, atmos, you name it. Best piece of kit i've purchased in years. New version will just have slightly updated Tegra and not much more.

Yeah, dont think the new Shield is supposed to be radically different to be honest.

As @_Slogan said that it won't be radically different than this and also more expensive

They will sell out before you can buy one though
Am I right that it was £120 4 years ago, is it improving with age???

Would that be the next best price then?

That'll be the previous version, think they did a few tweaks and this ones smaller. The controllers are different as well. I got mine December last year for £150 with controller and £10 steam voucher

Ah, so excuse my ignorance is this the Steam-dedicated console from a few years ago (Valve?) or something else?
I'm not a gamer, but wondered if that had died.

No ignorance at all, its always good to ask
You can link it to your Steam account and play games if that's what you mean?
Or just add RetroArch to play ps1, nes, snes games etc.
I mainly use mine for Real-Debrid or Plex.
It plays all the mkv or remux files as well what have DTS-HD Dolby Atmos and so on for films.

Thanks, I knew of its video/streaming capabilities but not the game stuff.

Nah that was "Steamlink" which just allowed you to stream your PC games to it.

The shield is arguably the best Android TV device you can buy which also does a lot of gaming based stuff as well.

It wasn't steamlink, it was a box that actually ran stuff on a Linux/based OS - several years ago.
Rumours the new one will have Google Stadia built in
May as well spend the extra and get the controller.

Those were called Steam Machines with SteamOS.
Bought the next tier up for £189 with controller. Nice piece of kit. Heat.

It's an Android TV device. Mainly for consumption of games, movies. TV shows.

Work for Nvidia do you? :/
Is it worth buying this if you have a smart tv? I bought an LG B8 in February, but it’s my birthday soon...
I'm waiting for the Beelink King to drop to around £70, it's all i will need and only slightly less powerful than this and far easier to add stuff.

Even this one will do it, it has chrome cast built into it
If I have a chrome cast ultra is it worth the upgrade if I don't game? I use plex a lot but mainly casting it to the ultra. I don't have a 4k TV just yet as I'm waiting for black Friday
This is a great bit of kit, I have 3 in the house best streaming box out there 🏼
Bought one with remote and pad on black friday 4 years ago. Still strong after 4 android updates. One of the best £120 spend in my life.
So can someone tell me what this does over a Firebox?

Built in? Isn't the whole point of Stadia for it not to be built in?
Huge savings
