Can you stream games to the Nvidia Shield that have been purchased on Steam, directly from their severs?
I’ve been looking at purchasing one of these for ages for the emulation alone.

Streams from a pc with nvidia gfx card, you can do it with AMD but its not native more or a work around. But there are some titles that stream from nvidias servers.

The best media streamer you can buy.... hands down. It is also decent for gaming and can be used as a Plex server. But if you only want to watch media then the Roku Streaming Stick+ is a much cheaper alternative for only £39.99 at Currys currently. Heat anyway as this is a good price.
shield tv is best tv, but you're best off ditching the joypad, its nice until the analogs start ghosting and glitching their deadzones - bigtime. It's a product flaw that nvidia aren't addressing to this very date

Hi,got two of these they are great little unit come in 16gb & 500gb but you can just add a harddrive or usb stick for more memory so 16 GB is fine.i have both of them.

Just looked. They’ve changed the deal, was a couple of quid cheaper but only £10 steam voucher. Carry on lol. here.

Yes
Paying £30 for £20 steam credit from the looks of it. Deal price I expect the system to be £150 if not less

That is typical Currys pricing. Why would you go for the same deal with a £10 steam wallet when next to that deal is the same shield bundle with a £20 wallet......
Hi,here some information on it, hope this helps

They have a decent offering of Steam games that you can stream via their servers (obviously you must own whatever game that you want to play in Steam). You just link your Shield to your Steam account and then away you go.

Here's a current list of supported games:

The Shield Controller is the biggest letdown with this device. The battery is fudged in mine now, so it has to be plugged in to work. Also, it's not that great for gaming, as previously mentioned. Fortunately you can pair an XBox or PS4 controller pretty easily.

Yes me too. Looking unlikely now but you never know.......
Been better priced loads of times.

I'm holding off on a 2nd till I see if the rumours of a new version come true.
Uses sameish chip as the Switch and the new switch is on the newer chip, been rumours of Nvidia looking into similar for the Shield.

Remotes pants anyway btw.
Playing in the dark, I can't distinguish the 3 buttons in the middle, and end up cutting out games

As a post mentioned they have a selection of games but you can play any steam game but you need to download them to there servers every time you want to play it. That isn't bad since there servers have gbs speed so 50gb game takes minutes. What problem you come into is unsupported games will need mouse and keyboard as well as controller sometimes and with it doesn't have steam save function you will loess you saves every time. Also depending on connection you do get input lag. My partner plays a unsupported game called the isle which is online requires mouse and keyboard but progress saved to server. Bad input in my eyes but she dontnotice it.
Excellent streaming box. Been using it for over a year now. No issues at all. Sold the controller in ebay. I have plugged in a mini USB Keyboard which makes typing and scrolling through way better.

Thanks, I don’t have a pc powerful enough to run games from it, but just had fibre broadband and thought it could be worth a go.

i've heard a lot about iptv, but don't really understand it. tend to use acestream for streaming sport. could you link me to any resources to learn more about it? or even pm me if you have time?
£11 a month is expensive for iptv, you can get a year sub for £50 or less with a good provider when they run sales.

It used to stream ALL games from the cloud but recently I heard they limited the selection of games probably due to costs and they allowed people to play for free.

i broke the plug on my shield & can’t buy a new one, I miss us No it I should contact Nvidia really

True but when they are dropping like flies it's a bit risky buying a full years sub!
Vaderstreams died the other day :-(

Also this combined with Kodi is arguably one of the best if not the best pound-4-pound media players, extremely capable :-)

Install dolphin - plays GameCube & Wii Games (not tried Wii myself since my shield broke but GameCube worked fine, you may need to tinker with the settings thougha bit)

Install pspp - Play PSP Games, I think you can play them at slightly higher resolution that the PSP too if you tinker in the settings.

Install retroarch - play lots of retro games - nes, SNES, Master System , megadrive, turbo graphics, mame, n64 and tons of others (you may need to follow a setupguide on Youtube unless you know it)

dreamcast Games - there is a Dreamcast emulator, some games work it may be in retroarch or you can side load it.

play your steam games without owning a pc - this feature was awesome when I used it, practically every steam game worked like how Google’s Stadia did, but apparently the last few months they have cut this list down to size, probably due to the cost of running this service (which used to be £7.99 but now is FREE in beta) look up the list of games that work, yes you need to own the games on steam obviously.

if however you have a pc & a newer Nvidia card you can stream every p.c game to it.

geforece now also offers some older games to play for free such as batman Arkham asylum I think, tomb raider the reboot from 2013, Deus Ex etc, check the current list.

Lol at the people who say it has no games it does if you look around. (Granted steam cloud streaming used to be better with more games, but there is still quite a lot to play)

plex works as does kodi

Tip: cant see an app you want? Use a mobile device or p.c, log onto the same google account go to the google play store webpage instead of an app, find an app you want for th shield & see if it will push install that way, a lot of apps that aren’t available through the shields internal play google store can be sent if you log into the playstore via a web page instead, it will pop up with a menu of your shield greyed out if it is not compatible.

Above method won’t work? Try sideloading the app yourself via a app apk you “Found” on the web (sorry I can’t tell you how to find these apk’s but I’m sure google will help ) WARNING -
i cannot be held responsible for what apk you sideload or whether they are 100% legit or not but don’t work etc it’s a risk you have to take yourself.

Don’t break the plug, I did and you can’t replace it as it’s got it’s own proprietary connector, rip my shield
i’m Gonna need to contact Nvidia one day to see if they will replace it for me, would be nice though if I could have just bought a replacement plug for like £20, their contact system is Confusing as hell.
Got an old fire tv 4K box atm. Are these better for acestream - that’s all I use it for.

My intel compute stick (atom)can’t handle it all.

I have the Shield Tablet and as much as they did support way beyond what most other manufactures would, hey still didn't address major flaws within in. Some were hardware unfortunately, like the terrible wifi. But they are still great products and my Tablet is my go to for Emulation at home and on the move. Definitely going to jump on the next TV deal minus Controller./ Mainly for the passthough and decoding aspects.
marc198217/07/2019 10:52

Thank you

No worries.
If you have a spare 5v phone charger (2A minimum) then using that would probably be better. If it's a branded phone charger it will almost certainly have a better PSU then that cheap ebay generic one.

Then all you need to do is buy the USB Nvidia lead!
ebay.co.uk/itm…MfS

**EDIT**
Actually not sure about above, looks like that might just be a MicroUSB lead to charge the shield controller (poorly worded ebay auction) ???!?
I don't have a shield so I'm not 100% sure, maybe someone with a shield can confirm?

This is the PSU that I think you need, might require a US/EU adaptor but thats all as the input voltage is universal like a lot of DC power supplies now:
