o2 Broadband retention offers (existing customers at end of minimum term)

I'm not entirely sure whether this will just get voted cold since it's not available to everyone, and whether I should just put it in misc instead. Apologies to anyone who dislikes this deal anyway.

I just thought I'd post as I've called up o2 today as I've just finished up my 12 month term that I originally agreed to when I signed up. Noticing that they're offering new customers three months free, I thought I'd call up and see if they'd offer me the same if I was to agree to a new 12 month term (which I'm perfectly happy to, I certainly wasn't looking to get away from them). After being put through to retentions, the lady told me that I had two options- I could have either:

£2.50 off my bill each month for 12 months (bringing my bill on Pro down to £20 a month or £15 with an o2 mobile discount.)

or

Three months free! (for me, a total saving on Pro of £67.50)

Given that if you leave o2 to rejoin and get quidco, you have to wait at least three months before you can rejoin, I think this is a pretty good deal for those who'd rather not be without for quarter of a year for the sake of £50!

As mentioned, this deal is only of use for customers who have seen out their 12 month term and did not realise they can get some decent offers if they renew their commitment.

HOT if it works!! Will give them a call and see if I can do the same!

good deal, i got offered something similar at renewal time. h + r

I had a call from O2 when my 12 months was coming up on my net. They offered me a credit of £50 to be added to my O2 mobile phone contract if i carried on myinternet. I was happy as i diddnt intend on leaving anyway.

3 months down the line i have still not recieved my £50 credit.

As a internet provider O2 are fantastic besides this IMO.

Just did it!! Thanks a million OP!!

they offered me the same deal last week
not bad
I reluctantly cancelled, however

Yes that's been the standard offer from o2 Home Broadband for most of this year for taking out a fresh contract, ie a new commitment to pay for another 12 months plus:

- ie either match the current offer to NEW subscribers - ie been next/first 3 months free for most of this year (but was £50 o2 mobile credit for a while, hence a report of that being offered)
- or take £2.50/m off the sub for the first 12 months of your new contract commitment

More on the ThinkBroadband forum at:
forums.thinkbroadband.com/o2/…tml

(A few weeks ago you were able to blag 6 months free as they were doing a one-off special for Metro newspaper subscribers, but that chance has been and gone.)

The important issue is as OP has been clear:
1) You are committing to a fresh 12m+ Home BB commitment
but also...
2) That is also the best time to assess IF you value their bolt-on Home Phone contract (also 12m+, ie you'd get both of them in synch commitment wise which would give you BEST leverage in future years for any renewal deals, though the more of their services you rely on the less likely you are to leave them)

You can SOMETIMES see what fresh offers are available to you via "Change my package" within the www.o2.co.uk website broadband site.

Incidentally o2 do NOT seem to require 3m away before rejoining and blagging a fresh joiner £; one guy reported being away for just a few days - but can't imagine why anyone would go through that hassle unless absolutely desperate. The idea of 3 (it's actually 6 in the T&Cs) months away seems to be tied in to IF you leave having taken advantage of their 30-day moneyback happiness guarantee after activation - ie they want SOME time relief from you costing them c£40s to get Openreach to wire you up!

O2 Broadband is fantastic. Great customer service. Got 3 months free when I renewed earlier this year but I was going to renew anyway!

Same here - what I like about O2 is genuine unlimited downloads, and when there is a problem you can get through to someone who speaks English. It was a BT line fault last time.

I got the same when I renewed...

got it when you resign the contract.

Mine is not up for renewal till end of Sept,so I will wait nearer the time.I have been very happy with O2.Great UK support and having my O2 mobile with them I only pay £7.50 a month for the standard package.
Could I get a discount of that when my contract is up for renewal?

I'd be inclined to guess they'd offer you three months free, but not the £2.50 off per month. Who knows though, I'm only guessing. I had to base my post on what I was offered on the Pro package.

cancel, start a new contract, 3 months free and save as much money AND get another router...

i renewed my contract with O2 a few weeks ago and was given the 3 months free offer which i happily accepted.
However, a few days later someone posted on hotukdeals the Metro offer which gave new customers 6 months free.
I phoned O2 and thought i may aswell give it a try and they agrred to give me the 6 months free.

Best ISP i've ever had. The speed, customer service (english) and price is faultless in my opinion.
I'm in my 3rd year with them

I got a call from them before my 12 month contract ran out offering me 3 months free if I stayed with them.

I plan on staying with O2 because generally they have rocked, but what alternatives are there that are worth the money? I am thinking of moving my phone over to O2 for hte discount, but seeing as I cant get Virgin Cable, I pretty much consider my options a little bit cut short.

Any other good broadband deals anyone can think of?

You have to return your Router at the end of the contract.
I've just finished mine but because I was moving I decided to setup a new account and get the TopCashBack at the new address and three months free, had to use a different email for the new address but have since been able to change that back to my normal address.
They requested I return the router I received and sent a postage paid return envelope for it, though they have issued me with another at my new address...

Have stuck with o2 Broadband as I have never had a problem with them.

I'm with Be* (owned by O2) and when I renegotiated they gave me £12/month for life on my unlimited account (up to 24MB) of which I sync at 23,500 approx.

i got a call 10 months whinging i was using too much on my unlimited deal i downloaded 40gb in april apparently when i said so what it's unlimited they told me yes but im using it too much????

told em to stick it and send me a mac code

I've dumped my mobile contract and was thinking about jumping when the discount stops, i'll give that a try cheers!

As a heads up, o2 will offer re-signing broadband customers the same deal as new customers. Unlike other companions they dont differentiate from existing and new customers when it comes to special offers. If new customers were to get 6 months free via online/telesales (unlikely to ever happen... just using an example) then if you were outside your contract, you could ask for the same and you would surely get it.

Gotta admit... not a bad setup especially if you have no intentions of moving providers - may as well get 3 months free ehh? :-)

It's the same for mobile if you are due an upgrade/ out of contract they should let you take up the same offers as new customers.

I'm on O2 mobile contract and never had an issue with them. They're quick to sort any issues out, and very good at keeping your custom when your contract ends. As for the broadband, well... I have the 50Mb Virginmedia service, don't wanna downgrade the speeds anytime soon ;-) But if I was to go with non-cable provider, it'd eithe be O2 or BE.

I DONT GET IT !!!
ive been with o2 for more than 2 years now and my internet is completely **** compared to what you lot are saying , i only get 90 kb/s download speed ? ?

When I renewed my mobile contract that gave me 3 months free on the broadband - though they didn't actually tell me about it, just noticed not getting charged for 3 months. Not sure when my broadband account was/is due for renewal.

I've downloaded a significant amount over the last couple of months (well in excess of 40gb/month, nearer 300gb/month) and they've not mentioned anything yet...

I moved to o2 Broadband Premium (20Mb) and my ISP shows as Be Broadband. I've only been activated a day and I can say that the speeds and customer service are a good improvement over Sky. Shame about the o2 wireless box - it is awful.

I did this recently but went through quidco and got an extra £50 quid on top of teh three months free. All this on top of the first class service that O2 provides......Just you F***king wait BT until my landline contracts up im counting the days.

not too sure how I got offered this but in January I called o2 as have both a work and personal mobile through them. They agreed that if I kept my personal mobile with them (even though its a 1 month simplicity deal at £20 a month) they offered me a 12 month home broadband with 12 months free. Obviously have to start paying the £7.50pm of whatever it is after that but 12 months free. Poped it in the office and not had a problem with it since. Just thought I would share as you may be able to push for more.

Nice one, will try this when mine is nearly running out.

did this too a while back. worked fine.

Great best ring them

I posted this a few months back - hotukdeals.com/ite…026

Great to see they are still doing this for existing customers. Makes a change from all the "new customers only" deals! I was paying less than £4.50/ a month before the VAT increase but still, I'm paying £4.90/ a month now for a true 8meg down/ 1.2meg up always on, no capps or restrictions. o2 are great! Can't ask for more.

I was offered this about a month ago but as im moving i didnt go for it as i was hoping to get cable. There's no cable where im going so im gonna go for three months free..... after the month i got free for complaining about about O2 changing the DNS and not telling me runs out :oD

I use my own router so didnt get the update before they switched DNS. When i called the 'technical support' they told me they were working on the line near me and to wait a couple days! I found out about the DNS and complained. The other night O2 called to apologise and to give me the free month to make it up to me.

I've always meant to find this out, what are everybodies dl speeds maxing out at. When using utorrent I'm getting at best 800/850 kb is this good/ average? I was able to dl a certain file from a certain somewhere that was 13GB overnight which seemed pretty good so I'm just curious as to everyone elses experience.

Love O2 by the way, I'm about to transfer my lsndline to them, I'll see what they'll offer me off my bb when I do.

I got 6 months free on renewal when Metro offer was on recently AFAIK this offer has only run once (or maybe twice before)

This is a standard deal offered by O2 retention (2.50 off a month) nothing special, they offer it to everyone....

Same thing happened to me with my unlimited O2 web bolt on my phone. Got a text off them last week telling me I'd gone over my "unlimited" allowance and that I should either cut down or buy a bigger bundle. I mean how are you supposed to buy a bigger bundle than "unlimited"?

You should run some speed tests and also find out what your router syncs at to get a more accurate result. There is lots of guides on how to do this on avforums.co.uk

martyj999
Here broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ shows me as getting around 8-9 Mb download speed but when i use (Ahem) newsleecher with astraweb i get 12Mb consantly and consistently.
