It's an entry-level smartphone plus it's NOT running with Android - it's a customised user interface on top of a different phone OS.

Think nearly everyone would be better with Orange San Francisco with 480 x 800 display and Android (and unlockable for free at the moment) which is one heck of a lot better display than this' reported 320 x 240.
After all you buy a Smartphone to interact with its data/display.
Various deals on the OSF over the last week on here.

...apart from the fact that it's on Orange!!

Well done No 8... you read the post but somehow managed to miss the part about being able to unlock the Orange San Francisco for FREE. So it's irrelevant that it's on Orange.

Have one myself, using my O2 sim in it, and all Orange crap removed.

yes there's alot of smartphone aficionados raving about the orange san francisco, definitely worth a look

Totally agree EcumenicalMatter. In fact doing the maths the display on this is just 20% of the display on the (Orange until unlocked) San Francisco.

Like you my OSF is already on o2 though at the moment I'm still experimenting with Apps - fascinating range even sticking to 'free' - and hoping for a stable 2.2 TFT version by the time I've understood the phone/Android.

I was lucky enough to get a hold of the OLED version. It's a fantastic phone. Using the 2.2 alpha ROM from Modaco. It's a bit buggy, but performance is much better than 2.1.

I wasn't convinced I'd ever jump on the touchscreen bandwagon, but I'm firmly on board now. Given the price of the San Francisco, how can anyone justify spending £400+ on a HTC Desire or iPhone.

argos do the san fran for £99 at the moment. How do i go about unlocking it to use with my o2 sim (or tesco sim i am thinking of getting). Is it a case of buying the san fran phone from argos and then phoning 02 to unlock????

dumb ass!

You can not compare the San Francisco to the high end mobile phones I am afraid. I have the SanFrancisco and the HTC Desire. San Francisco is a cheap plasticky device running or that has the ability to run a nice OS like Android. A good phone for the price but still a budget phone. The Desire and the likes = High End Hardware + High End Software = Best Mobile money can buy! Something Nokia is struggling to get the hang of.

I am sure more than 90% of the people who bought it from Orange are using it on a different network

Visit blade.modaco.com (San Francisco is a network branded ZTE Blade) to find out how to do it for free. Couldn't be simpler

The HTC Desire runs Android 2.2... My San Francisco runs Android 2.2... so I'm not sure what you're talking about with your 'high-end software' reference - it's the same OS. And it's speedy and slick on the San Francisco. Yes, the HTC Desire has better hardware, but better that 99% of phone users actually need. And doesn't justify costing more than 4x the price. But that's just my opinion

Pop your O2/Tesco sim in the phone and it will ask for an unlock code...

go here...

nextgenserver.com/cal…or/

Enter the IMEI number form the phone (or phone box) and choose ZTE in Service field, then ZTE Bluebelt in device field.
enter the verification code and click the order button. Your unlock code will appear in the box at the top of the screen.

Type this into your phone.

Job done....
