O2 mobile broadband dongle £9.95 IN-STORE only.@ Carphone Warehouse

Erm to be honest not the best mobile broadband dongle on the market. Notice this whilst walking past carphonewarehouse and stated that in-store only £9.95. No need to purchase voucher but bit pointless as you will need a voucher anyway.

I believe you can unlock these dongles to use on other networks.

Just remember you must top up a new voucher each month whilst with vodafone it is unlimited.

Nearly forgot to say.... average speed on these things are around 512kbps download. Really slow. So only good for browsing to be honest. Only excellent for the travelling person. DO NOT rely on these for home only!! Tooo slow...

Can you believe the days when we would not moan about dial-up?

Anyway, I believe only available in store only. So if this gets - cold, i don't really care.

really don't care. :whistling:

Do you know what model of dongle it is? Tempted to get one and use it on 3, since the one they supplied (ZTE 627) is utter pants.. can't be any worse.. or can it? ;-)

what is the problems with zte 627.

Via quidco you can normally get this dongle plus a £15 quid credit for free. The offer has been running in various forms for many months on and off now - but currently seems to be in the 'off' cycle.

If you want one now - its a good deal - so I voted HOT - but the quidco one is likely to be back soon - and means a £15 credit too - but a delay until its on again - and a further delay for delivery.

it will be the huawei e160

I have tried the o2 dongle {not sure if its the huawei or the other} but
its terrible..

IF you get it detected by the operating system bravo and then on to the next battle..

Waiting and waiting for the network connection.

It detects fine the first time and works well a few times but then suddenly it starts mis-behaving..
its a terrible one.

& the three dongle is worse..
You would be lucky if you can get speeds faster than 14.4K dial up !

O2 dongle isn't too bad - I use it as a backup.

It is a Huwaei e160

The trick to getting these to install properly (or at all!!) is to turn User Account Control OFF whilst you install them, 'Administrator' or not.

You get Unlimited free BT Openzone with O2 whilst your payment is unexpired, which means BT Fon Hotspots also work.

Not as good as the Vodafone 'lollipop' one which work pays for, but not really any worse than any of the others, coverage-wise.

i got one of these, it is indeed the huawei e160 and the good news is its already unlocked

haven't tried o2, but have been solely on 3 mobile for around 18 months.

speed & reliablilty are no worse than pipex landline was.

to be fair, I don't download much, never have, I don't like pirates, and do not see the point in legit downloads, prefer solid product i can touch (and therefore sell if need be!)

Installed for me with no problems. Mine was also supplied unlocked.

would anyone recommend this? (for the price and the point that i need it asap for uni)
also, does anyone recommend an iphone simcard (if this trick still works)

does anyone know anything at all.. (im new to dongles)

I think it's worth pointing out O2s data network is terrible and has been up and down like a *****s draws in the last couple of months...

i have a 3 one and 02 on contract originall the o2 was my main and 3 was the back up ......................Last few months ive been travelling and only once has the 02 even picked up a gprs signal and thats outdoors.

With the 3 one i can be sitting a hotel room with hsdpa or at least 3g (300kb+)

3 saved my life

why has o2 been so bad (does anybody know & can anyone help with my previous question about the iphone simcard (cheekycheeky)

I've used this dongle and it works fine.

When I first installed it I had to disable UAC (user account control) before installing the Huawei.

The are usually unlocked if E160, I'd suggest if you don't want the pants o2 sotware here's the original generic To flash your modem with the original Huawei dashboard, copy and paste the link below onto your browser and download the “Mobile Partner” software onto your computer’s desktop. Then plug your modem (without the sim card) into your computer, click on the downloaded icon and follow the on-screen prompts file is a .rar

On my second one,the first one got disconnected after 2 months ,the one I'm using now has been going without problem for 5 months :-D

I dont put it in a iphone at all, just your luck I guess as to whether you get a telling off and a disconnection

The dongle itself is good but the software is awful!
Useful as a backup though. Shame you can't just install the drivers and use better 3rd party connection software.

Well I'm using it indoors in a good coverage area and it keeps on jumping from 1-3 bars 3g to hsdpa, and when it does the http access disappears. This happens about 10-20 times a day and is a royal pain in the ass! Was hoping to get something with an external ant. port (unlike the 627) or just a better built-in antenna!

You can either get rid of the software on there and put the generic software on or you can use the built in windows one.

cheers budy, how much would u recommend to pay on an iphone sim? and do you use it for light use only? (thats all ill be using it for)
thanks.

deathtrap3000;6281827

it will be the huawei e160

thanks! btw
seems this one has the external antenna port i was looking for!..nice ;-)

This dongle also has a connection for an external antenna if you want one unlike the voda dongle which you have to drill into to reveal the plug. I've put my voda sim into it and it's fine.

Edit:

next I'm going to start to google which bits i need to hook the fella upto my redundant tv aerial which luckilly points at the local 3G/ATV mast . anyone know which pigtail-thing it uses?

Clueless alert !!!!!

Could someone please inform me if I could use my o2 sim card from my mobile phone with this to connect to internet on my netbook.?

I have a pay monthly contract with free web access on my Nokia 5800 if that helps.

Cheers

I'll have a look too tomorrow when I'm less inebriated. I'm hoping it's not the one hidden in the voda which was a bit expensive in comparison to others when I looked it up.

I paid about £8 for mine on ebay, came with £10 credit loaded, but they're charging more for them now,try avforums or similar,

I only use mine occasionally but did use it continually for a fortnite at one stage and thought sure it would be disconnected after that but it wasn't,didn't download anything though, just normal surfing

You can,but your not supposed to,so you run the risk of a disconnection or geting charged for it,thats if they notice it,I suppose if you only did it occasionally it may go unnoticed

You don't need one of these dongles to tether your Nokia 5800 via bluetooth or USB to your netbook on the move. Your data allowance is 400mb? (iirc) so you may surf and twitter on the move using this method (no dongle required) as long as you're only doing low-bytrate surfing, email checking etc.
