tl;dr: O2 existing customers, quote 3's 30GB tariff for £20pm. Got it on live chat

My short history with O2:
July 2016 I signed a SIM only contract - 10GB of data for £18pm, for 12 months. 2-3 months after that I changed my tariff to 20GB for £20pm, without extending my contract. Both of those include unlimited text and data.

The process:
My contract was due to end (automatic renewal) tomorrow. I've seen EE retentions from £15-18 over here. I decided to use £16.99 as my better offer.

On the live chat I said the traditional I want my PAC code because I found a better deal and quoted the previously mentioned EE offer. Declined the 12GB tariff. I got an offer for £18 for the same tariff and didn't manage to convince the agent to get it down to £17 but I agreed. But then he/she said she couldn't offer that for EE. Didn't say directly but navigated me towards 3. I looked up their tarriffs and after a bit of guessing we finally finalized. £21 tariff with £3 loyalty discount, quoting the 30GB for £19 tariff from 3.

Overall, I'm pretty happy. It took me an hour because they couldn't counter EE. Instead of paying inflation adjusted £20, it's £18. Keep in mind the loyalty discount lasts a year, so on automatic renewal you'll be paying inflation adjusted £21pm.

I could've had Voda 20GB for £20pm without WiFi calling with a £50 voucher, EE 20GB for £21 with 6 months of Apple Music for which I pay but I would have to fake being a PAYG customer. 3 has trash coverage so I wasn't even considering, So glad that I don't have to transfer my number, it's such a hassle.

A) Expect this to go cold purely for it being a retensions deal.

B) Regardless whether you quote 3's deal, you're not guaranteed to get this deal and a number of factors are needed to be taken into account.
I'm bored seeing these "look what I got for myself" posts. Virtually useless to anyone else as they're individually organised contracts and not available by pressing the "get deal" button.

Swings and roundabouts really. It shows potentially what you can get by pestering retensions but on the other hand yes, it's useless because retention deals are personalized to an individual.

This here is pretty much the worst case scenario. Been with them slightly less than 1 year but had paid my bills on time and never really had any problems.
LEGEND!
isn't everything show and tell on this site?

Regardless, I've been a loyal customer to EE for over 2 years, paid my bills on time and they refused to match any deal I threw at them.

You could be with them 5 years and they might not match any deal you find. There's also factors to consider on their end like sales targets etc.

Worst case scenario, yes but time with a company and bills paid on time are just a small factor when trying to get a retensions deal.
These posts have a place, as I've used them in the post as an indication of what I should so for, but probably in the info section
