o2 upgrade early and o2 will pay remaining balance off

Found 30th Jun
I logged on to Myo2 app today and saw that with £120 remaining on my contract, o2 will now pay off the remaining balance and allow me to upgrade. Might be worth you checking to see if you're eligible for an upgrade.

I got to the pay screen and I can confirm the only balance to pay was for the new contract phone.

Not sure how much they will pay off, but may be higher than what I have been offered.

Not for everyone tho
everybody gets 25% off, you could have upgraded a few months ago by looks of it. But... you should never upgrade like that, you get worse than worse deals. Hope you enjoy your new phone.

Everyone is starting this trend to lock you into a new contract.
So O2 will use their own money to pay off the money that you owe them?
Hmmmmm......

And then sell you an over inflated new deal. Which will more than get their money back and more.
This happened on one of my o2 contracts last year. Still owed well over £200 and upgraded free. Got a txt a day later saying I had received an offer on the o2 app in error and to ignore it... Too late I already had my new phone
O2 are THE worst for phone contracts, their plans are useless like who uses just 500MB of data anymore!

Think 500GB of data would last me 12 months. But yes the 500mb data plans are useless really.
This is not new i got stuck in a vicious circle with o2 for 6 years doing this and taking out massively over priced contracts because i really wanted new phone models at launch. Then i took out one of o2's new type contracts when the galaxy s8 launched ( pay extra each month and upgrade every 12 months at no cost if you give old phone back ) Only recently in april ive got out of it i sold my s8 and used the cash to payoff the contract. I was paying £64 a month to o2 for 30gb data and s8 which works out to £1536 for an s8 and 2 years data and calls which was poor i couldnt even stream my cctv or hive cameras it just kept disconnecting and as i drive for a living i call alot when driving and calls just kept cutting off all the time. Id never go back to o2 over priced rubbish. Now i purchased a galaxy s9 at lauch with paypal credit interest free over 4 months and got a virgin sim with 100gb data for £20, so £1209 now over 2 years with more than 3x the data and the internet is between 40-60 mbps where as o2 was around 17 mbps on average. With virgin i can stream my cameras no problem and calls are cutting off alot less. My advice avoid o2 contracts directly from them at least

I mean. I wouldn’t complain about 500GB of data... Only got 20GB at the moment.

Virgin new deals can be awesome, the 1800mhz 4G coverage is great because a good whack of EEs (dual networked) 2G 1800mhz was reframed to 4G, Virgin not having access to 800mhz 4G EE isn’t much of a issue most places. The EE 2600mhz in built up areas keeps the peddle going along with 2100mhz 3G... the 800 4G signal is exclusive to BT Mobile/EE and 800mhz means VoLTE/4G Calling works - even Plusnet Mobile are treated as a bargain basement like Virgin by EE/BT Group now.

Most Virgin customers will get great 4G coverage on 1800/2600mhz just not VoLTE or WiFi Calling.

Virgin gives unlimited and 400GB then 1MBPS speed on Unlimited - £25 for Virgin Media customers

o2 actually has the poorest 4G like 3G land mass, which given they buy the best 3/4G spectrum allocation is nuts, Telefonica Spain just use o2 U.K. as a cash cow.

They just bought the best 5G lot of spectrum and the only 4G 2300mhz spectrum up for grabs in the same auction which will bulk up built up areas, think they will heavily do 5G and when that’s in place Telefonica sell o2UK like they wanted to do to Three UK after Three Ireland bought o2 Ireland and Sky o2 Broadband.

Telefonica made is crawling in debts, still just under €50 billion, so here’s hoping they plow o2UK profits into 5G instead of head offices debts to sell o2 at a premium (for them debts). Average annual profit is 5billion and it’s debt ten times that. I hope 5G revives o2, my o2 3G coverage early on was excellent and expanding until Telefonica bought o2. I left my contract like a decade ago, got a old Genie payg for the glovebox but that’s as far as I go on o2 - it’s expensive direct and I want inclusive international roaming. Here is hoping 5G really does improve o2 coverage, at home I get 2G, 4G on the street so I’m hoping 2300mhz makes a difference, 100 2300mhz sites were switched on the day o2 won, 1000 to be active by end of year 2018, hopefully I will have indoor 4G o2 as the 2100mhz 3G signal won’t ever improve lol.
