It's crap. I've got one. The wood effect is like printed paper, It's rubbing off in places! Do not buy this junk.

On sale at Amazon for £129 so a good deal in that respect. At least they say that the "Oak Effect" material is "wood". Hopefully that precludes MDF...

oak effect equates to a laminate with some sort of wood underneath but not actual oak then??

if so for me cold

found answer from amazon questions look below and beware

The wood is vernier oak effect. Be careful though, if you buy one, because the vernier effect is quite easily removable by sticky tape as i found out

and another answer

Chip board with oak effect

I don't think that it is solid wood. Looking at the pictures I can't see any end grain which suggests that it's laminate.
Definitely cold, they're basically selling it for about how much it's worth and trying to reel you in by making out it's an incredibly good deals which is a load of Horlicks in my opinion.

You can buy better desks for about the same price at IKEA etc.

If it's oak effect it will probably be cheap laminated pine. To be honest I'd prefer MDF than that.

I thought I would share this: if you do purchase it today (Sunday 11th June)- you are entitled to 10% cashback from Quidco.

It’s not Oak.
Oh look cheap Chinese deforestation furniture worth about £3 if that
I think Groupon should be done for false advertising there. Report them to trading standards. It's not an oak desk by any stretch of the imagination.
WARNING: This item is misrepresented. Only in the small print are you told it's Oak-effect.
So it's a FAKE-OAK desk.
So this was never worth £159 if you ask me.
Compare with an actual oak desk:

Which comes assembled by the way and weighs a ton!
Buy once. Buy right.

Pretty typical of Groupon. I remember when they first started business and if I remember correctly they would often advertise goods without any delivery charge stated next to it.
Can't help but be amused by the description 'Oak Amazon's either. Like oaks grow in Amazonia lol.
Wouldn't touch anything from Groupon again with a barge pole, after the 14 day purchase date, they don't want to know you, so they effectively are selling items without any form of guarantee, never mind a years Voted cold from me I'm afraid.

Ordered a item forth £840, never arrived and was told it was dispatched weeks ago. Although it had only been passed 22 days. I called after up 14 days and they said they are still processing it, so how can 22 days be “ages ago”? The lady I spoken to knew nothing, she even forgot why I called.. after many calls finally got through to a rude manager, who after another 3 weeks acknowledged their mistake and said, they will refund me in Groupon credits? Because they have not dispatched my item as it’s in their warehouse. After arguing I was refunded go my PayPal account. I’d avoid Groupon. The items they sell with fake, but inflated RRP are found cheaper on eBay, which 99% includes free delivery whereas, Groupon will add £2.99+ charge per order
I got a couple of bits of furniture from Groupon in the last couple of weeks- good enough to do what I need and quite cheap. If you seriously think you are going to get proper oak wood (from the Amazon, no less!) then you are in for a shock. Yes, my new shoe cabinet is not made of the most luxurious material, and the material on the stool is only faux leather, but so what? Only thing that annoyed me was after buying the first item they popped up a message saying I could use the code DOUBLE to buy a second item at 10% discount, but it wasn't actually valid when buying the same type of item, and the only way to find this out was to message one of their live-chat operators. I got quidco/topcashback or some other reward anyway.

Similarly I think it is asking for trouble to buy anything £500+ sight unseen, especially from a voucher website.
Bought the same desk from Ryman over 3 years ago for my home office, on offer at £100. Very strong when assembled and still looks as good as when it was first purchased. At £60, it's a real bargain and I would highly recommend. The laminate is decent quality and far better than the usual Argos type finish.

Those complaining that it's not "solid wood", or is "FAKE OAK" and comparing it with a desk that's £342, I suggest you join the real world - it's £60 ffs!!

The problem is that here in the real world, you can't advertise a 'Oak Desk' if it's not an Oak Desk. Nowhere on that advert does it mention 'Oak Effect' or 'Laminate' construction. The original advert on the Range site, does mention that.

Groupon are in contravention of the ASA. These laws are there to protect us from misleading advertisements. It should not be up to consumers to have to calculate what we might receive when we order something, we should know and then we can make up our own minds,
Ordered this desk last year, the wooden parts are ok but not oak, the desk top is crap mdf with a thin laminate coating. Top has already worn away and peeled. Not worth th 99 quid I paid
DO NOT BUT THIS DESK. I bought it last year from Ryman via Amazon for £90. it's MDF. The plastic 'oak effect' film peels off very easily, I had to get a partial refund as ours started peeling off so easily.
Probably not a bad price for what it is - It's a very misleading advert though - asa.org.uk/mak…tml

I do appreciate your point. I bought a new Jaguar in ebony, then had to return it when I found that it wasn't actually covered in trees.
I bought this a while back for £90 and thought it was a good deal but it was an awful purchase.

The amount of scratches on the wood was unreal, including a huge one right over the top of the desk. Nearly every piece had veneer peeling off. The were multiple dents in the wood too. The draw didn't fit properly and I didn't get the screws to keep the draw in place. The cupboard door didn't have any holes to screw it in to.

In the end I got half my money back so paid £45 and it still isn't worth it. I'll be buying a new, much better quality desk soon.
£60 for plastic veneer oak is actually pretty steep.

Exactly. Groupon are lying, as usual. I am not saying it is not a good deal, but it is not as good as Groupon claims it to be, neither in terms of the discount nor in terms of the quality. They do not even say what it is made of - and I would guess it is LDF, not even MDF.

I have learned my lesson about Groupon, and I would hope they get banned here (unlikely, because they pay nicely, I know).

Bet you didn't buy it from Groupon, there's every chance they could have sent you a real Jaguar!

I have had this same desk for about 2 years now and I can confirm it has held up very well. You would be hard pressed to find a better desk than this for £60. Don't know what people are expecting for this kind of price.
Just a feedback if its anyhelp to someone. I purchased this on Groupon and just finished putting together. Its of very cheap and poor quality. Literally a thin layer of Oak pattern 'paper' (not even veneer) on cardboard looking core. Compared to this Ikea furniture is 10x better. Also the finish is poor on edges.

It is, feels and looks cheap rubbish. I am even concerned of letting my 7 yrs old use it. Wasted 60£ based on some misleading online reviews (incl. here).

Thanks for sharing. I was in two minds over replacing an old £30 Argos desk with this one, glad I put it off and forgot about it now. Might as well just get the same desk off Argos if the build quality is as you described.
Just come to assemble mine and this thing is garbage! Gutted I waited a while before assembly but they will be receiving a choice email from me. Stay clear people its utter garbage!
opened a paypal dispute with them. First and last time i shall try groupon!
