Can anybody point me to a good and hopefully free android app that works … Can anybody point me to a good and hopefully free android app that works with this pls?

OBD II-ELM327 App on Google Play Store is OK not brilliant, play.google.com/sto…7en But there is a Torque Lite version for free which is also OK play.google.com/sto…ree But if I was you I would spend the 2.95 and get the full fat version of Torque play.google.com/sto…que as it will pay for itself the first time you use it, I've had it for two and a half years and its excellent the guy regularly updates it for new data for vehicles and for new versions of Android.

Used a similar one to clear a oil sensor light on a 57 plate Honda Civic. … Used a similar one to clear a oil sensor light on a 57 plate Honda Civic. For some reason the garage couldn't do it .

Fix the oil sensor or related issue then the light won't reappear.

Akways baffles me why individuals and garages clear faults then consider it fixed. Fix the damn fault thats causing the fault code to generate, then its fixed.

Then theres peeps that buy cheapo crappy cars give em a quick clean make them run, clear fault codes and slap it on side of a road for quick profit to an unsuspecting victim.

Is this compatible with VAG cars anyone?

I plugged one into my wife's VAG, and had her purring in no time.

My brother has something similar to this. This tells u the fault code when its connected- I believe(sorry if Im wrong , I'm a women) Lol.

Must be noted that these work for basic codes but certain codes require different software like Vagcom for example. I've got one of these and also a cable and have vagcom on my laptop.

Thanks BlueDan. That's what I thought. Another reason to make the switch to Android...

It generally will read ECU faults, Not all but basic ones. Cars have several different modules, For example Abs Module, Body Control Module and plenty of others. What you will find is that it will probably read from the ECU but not the other modules.

Not every fault triggers the CEL, If you put a proper diagnostics device on you'll probably find dozens of fault codes. Some erase themselves after so long, Most are nothing to worry about. Each time you turn the ignition your car goes through a self diagnostics and stores any faults as pending or as faults, Very clever really.

I would recommend one of these as they are very handy and may save lots of money, However it doesn't mean your car is fault free.

As a general rule, Check for fault codes, write them down then erase, take for a spin, read for codes again if clear then check in a week or so etc.. then fix if their is a problem.

I've got a few different ones off amazon.

most of these are Chinese copies, but work just as well, BUT BEWARE DO NOT USE THE CD's that come with it, your Antivirus will have a field day! look to download a ELM package from the web!!

You cant use the Bluetooth versions with IOS devices, as IOS doesn't support serial over Bluetooth, but the WiFi ones work just as well.

you can even crack the cases on some of these devices and solder a couple of cables, which allows you to write to certain CAM modules on recent fords, unlocking certain features such as tyre deflation (if the module is the type that detects flats via the traction control) and various other items

I use the WiFi Version all the time with my netbook driving around recording data and reseting fault lights, or with my iphone on a dash mount as a extra instrument cluster (for my passengers benefit )with things like boost and BHP gauges

for IOS try DynoChart or enginelink from the app store

    do you mean the InSP

if so put key in ignition, press down the odometer reset button and keep it held down, turn the ignition on so the display lights up, keep the button held down for 10 secs, the InSP interval should come up then the ---, release the button, then turn off the ingition.

this should remove the InSP service light

I have one of these and the Torque Pro app - I have used it on my Range Rover and other cars including Vauxhall Signum and couple of work trucks all fine - should come with the car these are so useful
  18. MrKrabs's avatar
Works on a nissan almera 2003, toyota mr2 roadster.

I find them useful for when buying a car, plug it in as you go, use torque, find any codes that were cleared/archived etc and after test drive compare readings to a known 'healthy' engine.

These are great - had one for years. Yes you can clear the faults but if the fault is still there it will show up again soon enough.

Yes, I have something similar to this and it works on 4.4.2 - not sure why you would think it wouldn't Bluetooth is Bluetooth, well unless your Apple in which case **** about with it to make it less usable than everyone else's "standard"

Bluetooth has different standards ;). I think this guy is likely talking about whether the app will work with his phone though... In which case the Torque app will

You need a wifi version like this instead:http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DYOVXZ0/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=479289247&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00BHUNL80&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=09S8Z82X6253R6EYWFB6

Interesting, mrmelty. Can this show realtime mpg?

I am not too sure. I think it just gives an estimate. It may be depending on your car though. I have an '08 Corsa with no onboard computer so it may not know that info. I found this on the app store which is a plugin for the Torque app - play.google.com/sto…omy Maybe it could be of use to you.

i have this and it works fine, focus 2002 and a audi a3 2010, used it a few times before I got bored, and used it once to clear a fault code on my car when I forgot to tighten the air in take pipe properly. fair price, actually paid £4 for mine years ago.

Used something similar on a skoda octavia vrs.. They work fine, will allow you to read and clear fault codes, gives you real time engine information too, very useful bits of kit.. Mine has saved me quite a lot of money in diagnosing issues with my car, and family members cars, VAG group, Renault, BMW.. Most cars have an obd port, just google your car and obd to find where it is, and use android torque as it's by far the best..

Can I use this to clear a fault?
    (Mazda 5, 2008)
  36. NoFinPhish's avatar
I bought one last year. Didn't work with my 2005 Vauxhall Signum despite it apparently being ODBII compliant. Contacted the sellers and got a refund (of item, not postage from China).
It may have been a fault with the unit. I checked some of the feedback on Amazon (where I bought from) and googled the unit, and some have had issues. I managed to connect Bluetooth but unit didn't send any data.
I then bought a different ODBII scanner with cable rather than Bluetooth and that one has been excellent - got me out of a scrape or two.
