Order online (no payment taken until approx 1 week before release) and choose to collect in-store and you can pick up Nintendo Switch Exclusive Octopath Traveller for £34.99 at Smyths Toys. Releases 13th July. There's a free demo on the Nintendo eShop. Smyths have been smashing it on Switch pre-orders; from Labo to Kirby and from Bayonetta to Donkey Kong. If you pre-ordered Kirby from them, you could currently sell it to CEX for a quid more than you paid for it.

Hoping amazon price match it
They currently have it listed at £40 or £38 with the prime members discount
I'd rather pay £38 for amazon prime delivery than have to go out of my way to go to a Smyths for £35
(No Smyths stores near me, and I'm lazy af)
But I'd prefer it even more to get a £33 amazon prime delivery

If you pre-order through Smyth, can you cancel the order without payment/charge if it's cheaper elsewhere?

You may have already done these, but you can get £5 off doing the Amazon assistant promo... Or the £5 off using the download the app promo.. Or the £10 extra credit for topping up £40 in-store... Or £6 promo credit for buying £30 gift card.. Or £5 extra top up for topping up £50... Or use them all if eligible. 90% of my accounts were eligible for at least one of these promotions

Is this £5 off in store deal a constant thing, or will it be still up until the release date can anyone guess?
I don’t fancy pre ordering so far away, especially if elsewhere will price math or go cheaper or without having to pick it up.

Hard to say, I seem to remember the £5 off on Kirby was a fairly short lived affair. Donkey Kong only got pulled today though, and it releases tomorrow. I cancelled my Smyths pre-order for Bayonetta over email and they got back to me really quickly (within 10 minutes). On the basis that I think it's a really good price, they don't take payment until close to release date, and it's easy to cancel, I've put my order in.
Will order this when I get home. Nice find and a good price. Loved the demo only played one character and quit after the first bandit boss. Games already a must buy so no point in playing too much.
Damn how can Smyths keep this up? if they opened a store near me i'd defo be getting it from them. I would go for the special edition if it had the CD that comes with the NA version. there 's too much trite in these special editions nowadays, just give me the OST on CD, Artbook, map or a figure and i'm good. This game is a day 1 purchase from me I did a write up about the demo here.

There was one about 5 miles from my work, which wasn't too bad. Then they opened one at Hedge End and that's so close it's literally quicker for me to walk to than to drive to. I'm a bit spoilt in that respect! Nice write up btw.

Yes, but it's the best to contact them via Facebook. I tried to cancel God of War pre-order through their website, but could get an answer. Contacted them on Facebook and had it cancelled in few minutes.
If you don’t collect they won’t take any money from your card. So technically you don’t have to cancel.. just leave it.

They do take the money but automatically refund you if you don’t collect it within, I think 7 days

The other characters story is even better. Looking very forward to this game
Just gave feedback to Amazon about the cheaper price at Smyths. Hopefully gets known & price matched, worth a shot.

Shame I don't have a smyths near me. I played the demo. Gameplay is like an old school FF. I'm gonna get it when it comes out
