Lots will try and say that this is better than the new version, but it is not. The Rift S is an upgrade and much less hassle and newer technology. I would spend the extra £70 on a new version every time. Best features of this old version are Audio (but that is known to fail over time) and the manual IPD slider, but everything else is just worse than Rift S.

Not very good price for an old version

Saw that and was excited about it this morning but then realised its gen 1. No space here for all the sensors and all
I've been thinking about upgrading to the Rift S since I just moved house & I cba running cables/mounting for the sensors again
Loving my new Oculus Quest - just saying ;-)

Build quality is better, controllers are better, tracking is better, audio is better, ipd adjustment is better, colours and blacks are better. I have the Rift S and i like it, i also had the original.
Not a deal for older technology, when the new is only £70 more. Bought the Rift S last week and couldn't be happier with it. No external sensors is a big plus (wiring wise).
If they dropped it to 250 maybe I'd suggest buying.
Please note this is the old oculus rift!

Don't, the S is great for people who have never had a VR hmd before, but it is in no way a upgrade to replace the CV1, more a sideways step, audio is just terrible, and i mean terrible, tracking as i said is fine but if you have a CV1 it will become quite clear it is inferiour to the CV1 external tracking, and the S needs a well lit room or the tracking fails, and that halo headband like all the WMR is meh at best, you won't be resting your head down to watch any media with this torture device on, but it works fine for vr gaming......i grabbed one from argos but returned it as it simply took more away than it added, better screen res and better glare redution, but SDE is still there, crushed black levels and less vivid colours will hit you like a brick from what you are use to on the CV1, and at £399 a pop it was just not bang for buck, so stick with your CV1 and wait for a better HMD to appear, plus Facebook/Oculus F8 event is just around the corner so best to wait and see what they announce vr wise at it.

And i am not poo pooing the S, it is a very good system, but if you have a Cv1 the inadequacies between it and the CV1 for owners of the CV1 become apparent quickly.

You have both do you?

I do, just don't tell the wife and IMHO the original is the better model overall.

But the S does have the outside tracking which works very well and is its main advantage, much easier to set up.

I can upload the receipts from Argos for both if you want me to.

Ultimately each to his own, this is still a saving of £70 and if you are on a budget get this one.
has anyone got an oculus GO, im looking for something portable for movies. I have a google daydream headset for the pixel 2xl but the piocture quality is not the best.

In my opinion, just go for the Quest.

The GO is basically obsolete unless you're really on a tight budget.

If you plan to do absolutely zero gaming and have no interest in 6DoF then I guess the GO might be for you.

Otherwise, the Quest is superior in every way.

You don't need a PC to game on either headset.

If budget is not a concern, a Quest is an infinitely better experience than the GO.

Yeap, i bought the GO for watching media and it is fantastic, i just watched Close encounters the other night, like being in your very own cinema, i have the 32gig model and have no isses throwing a few movies onto it, and 3d movies are perfect on it.
Plus grab yourself a anker battery, i have the 6000ohm one that basically makes the Go last 3 times as long, and CEX are selling grade A Go 32gig version for £115 and a 2 year warrenty, so it is a no brainer.

I've seen these go for as little as £170 on ebay, they seem to have dropped in value quite drastically. I'd not pay this price, regardless of it being new.

Audio can be fixed by using your own Headphones/set. The problem for me was placing the sensors. I just bought 3 Light Stands from Amazon so I'll give it another go after they arrive

Also... 7 month is just around the corner?

I mean you say this, but if you have an ipd that is above or below average then the new version is effectively is useless. Had it and returned it because my 68ipd rendered it unusable.

I agree in principal that the lack of external sensors is a significant move forward, but if I was to recommend anything I'd recommend the quest rather than the new S.

Once you've built the hype with a couple of years of real deals all you need to do is have a few rrp's with a strikethrough and people will buy.

Not tried new S but not sold on the tracking. Watched a stream of super hot with the latest wireless headset which seemed glitchy in some positions (I know this wasn't the S but I think they use the same tracking tech)

My Vive tracking is flawless with minimal clutter (mounted near ceiling just cable for power).
Any ideas if an old 3d game (Gears of war 3) would work with a vr headset on the Xbox one x? Don't need any sensors, just to see the vid in 3d.
Oculus go also a prime day deal.

Not directly, that's not really what the headsets are designed for. You can use an app like Bigscreen to stream a console to your headset, but you're better off just using a TV in that case, the render quality would be awful unless you're using a higher end headset like the Index, Vive Pro or Pimax.

But I don't have a 3D TV. IIRC the 3D effect is "cross eyed" (don't know the real term) when I tried it on a normal TV but the aspect ratio was wrong.

I missed the 3D part.

3D movies work with Bigscreen but I don't think the Xbox's stereoscopic 3D would work.

There is an official Xbox streaming app for Windows 10 but there's no confirmation whether or not 3D games would work. I'd imagine that because there are so few titles that actually have support for stereoscopic 3D, that it isn't a feature they added or that anyone bothered to test.

The xbox one has no 3d games support, best you could do would be to use the abox app and stream all your xbox games to the Rift, so it which is like playing the games in your own cinema.
But 3d movies run great on the Rift, hell all movies look great on what is your on cinema.

Hang on I'm not up with this stuff. So you're saying I play the game on the Xbox (one x if it makes a diff) then have an app on the Xbox that sends the info by WiFi (?) To the vr headset? It's just when I was once talking about yi home cameras sending their video from the camera to China ( because yi are a chinese company!) and then back to my tablet it was like I was the only one who thought it crazy, and that the camera should send the video feed direct to my tablet via my router.
Yes, it streams from your xbox X to your PC, which your VR heasdset is connected to, you need W10 though, MS and Oculus had a partner ship going a few years ago, and from that came the xbox one streaming app with CV1 support.....check out Yt for videos of it in action............Xbox X........to PC with windows 10....to your CV1.

Thanks man, it's all new to me tho I don't have Win 10 and my "best" is a Sandy Bridge i7 but I'm eyeing the Ryzen Zen 2 for a new build.
Oh well, W10 is mandatory for it to work.......but all is not lost, there is a rumour that MS and oculus might be have a even bigger partnership with the next xbox, rumor has it the Rift S or a xbox Scarlett branded Rift S might be supported on the console for vr gaming....Forza 8 in vr possibly could be here next year....:-)
Think im gonna pull the trigger on this, do I need anything else? Know my system is bottom end but worth a shot. Though might have to loose one of my monitors... just got used to dual, First world problems

Honestly, go for the newer rift S. It's £70 difference (a lot still) but the benefit is much greater.
If your system is bottom end it might not cope with the USB requirements the original rift and sensors demand.
A good vr headset
I live in america and I want to know if this works here and I'm looking for a good vr headset pls
