Now that Zuckerberg has made linking a FB account to your oculus VR hardware a mandatory requirement to use all the new online features of your CV1, S and Quest, i would not give your £50 for a Oculus HMD, something they stated back in 2016 that their oculus VR hardware would not require, so what will be next up, bring back locked DRM oculus store games........who knows with FB these days.

Good deal. I'm after the quest though and that has stayed the same price

It's amazing! Thank you indeed!

As it should be, my CV1 and Go are ready to go into the local CEX after the new year and i will use that cash to grab a couple of those index knuckle controllers for my Vive, but as for this move there is not one single reason that benefits the end consumer who have been using their Oculus VR HMD for the last 3 years with no issues, just more hoops for the end consumer to jump through for no reason, oh and wait until the storm that is their new FB OS kicks off, they are replacing the Google Android OS on their Quest platform with their own OS as to stamp out piracy and to kick google into touch from their platform, can't wait to see all those sideloading quest owners when FB remove the android OS and finally finish their walled garden, should be fun to watch. lol

Just create a "dummy" account and link that
^^Or, ditch it all and go elsewhere, that is the power of the consumer, much better option in my view as why whould i jump through new hoops at FBs command just to continue to use my device, not like Oculus are going to stop there anyway, first cablegate, now mandatory FB accounts, and next up a locked down Quest with FB own OS, better to be out of all that.

Oh and i did not vote on this, not the OP fault, am just pointing out what Oculus are quietly implenting after they sell you the device.

For me it's just a downgrade from the first headset, inside out tracking still sucks... I have the room to put three cameras up, that's so much more stable. Also there is no hardware lens adjustment, even the Quest has that :/

Which version should I be aiming for in that case as the FB thing is very worrying indeed.

You'll be waiting for some …You'll be waiting for some time.https://uploadvr.com/oculus-quest-half-life-link/

O i know. I'm expecting some sort of deal that's specific to a site rather than the quest itself dropping. Like 10% off somewhere or something.

I bought a Rift S just before Christmas and didn’t need to link a Facebook account.

I had to create an account, and that account is ran through Facebook (as in I could log into Facebook with the account I created to use the Rift S) but I haven’t had to log into Facebook itself or give any personal details beyond the standard that any other online store account would require.

It's only just announced, it will be a requirement for "online" experiences. Games not requiring online won't be impacted.

I deleted my FB account a year ago (and then de-Googled myself as much as practically possible), and although I don't don a tinfoil hat I do appreciate the blurred lines social media creates. With that said, I have no issue with the FB announcement, I since created a trash account on FB, took all of 2 minutes.

Exactly. I don't think they care what games *ahem* adult content you view.
Damn, only bought this the other day. Do they have a price promise?

This update has been coming out over the last week, so assuming you have updated to it then just go to your fr list in home, all your friends will now be greyed out, you also can't visit their homes, chat or message, not until you link a FB account to it, so feature that oculus users have been using for over 3 year now locked behind another hoop to jump through at FB command........but on a positve it has forced me to just move completly over to SteamVR and away from Oculus, so ditch the CV1,(thank god i returned the Quest last month ), grab a pair of knuckle controllers for my Vive and enjoy VR gaming as it was, with no social media garbage shoehorned down your throat.

Ahhh I see, I’ve only used the Oculus Home/menu to launch into Steam VR so i’ve missed that bit.

Still, £350 to jump into VR is pretty good. I got mine via eBay for £320. Would’ve preferred a Samsung Odyssey+ but the availability here is terrible.
^^Yeah we are somewhat starved of vr hmd here in the uk, luckily i grabbed a vive not so long ago so the cv1 and my dell vr visor will net me 200 quid cash on cex, so 50 quid fir the knuckles controllers is a no brainer, now i just need to wait fir them to be in stock. Ha

Oh and i have a new unopened cv1 usb/hdmi cable that will net me a few quid also on ebay. :-)

I'm struggling keep up with the VR scene. A few weeks ago everyone on this site was saying the Quest is the best all round headset. Now it turns out it's trash due to some changes that FB has made.

It's really quite easy:

1. If you have a FB account, link it, stop moaning as you already signed your privacy away. Although you probably already use an Android/iPhone with location data, GPS, app history, use Chrome? Yeah you gave all your passwords away along with a lovely browsing history to market at you.

2. Don't have one and use a Nokia 3110? Great, sign up to FB with a throw away email and 2 minutes of your time. You never need to login to either.

Everyone needs to stop being so dramatic and just get used to the fact they already sold their data when they did any of the above, or invited Alexa/Google to monitor their every conversation.

Fb are only starting, say goodbye to sideloading on the quest as FB are dumbing the google Android OS for their own FB os, no more beat saber custom songs.
I'm really confused on this facebook issue. I want to play half life aylx on steam when it comes out and assetto corsa in the mean time. I have no issues with signing to facebook for my account. Will it still work with steamvr and all their content?

Yeah the Rift S will work for Half Life: Alyx or any other Steam VR game. So will the Oculus Quest when connected to a powerful enough PC using Oculus Link (compatible USB 3.0 cable required)

I got the Quest a couple of weeks ago and love it, don't mind linking Facebook account but won't be happy if they remove the ability to use Sidequest and add custom beat saber songs
Would rather get quest and use link
I thought i wanted to Quest and tried one out but then bought this deal for the Rift S as i will only be using it linked to my PC and having a true PC headset was a better than using the Beta link cable
