Is this better than the HTC Vive?

It's such a good buy. Bought one recently and it's already had its money worth in 2 weeks, lol.

Better in some ways, not as good in others. There's really not much to choose these days, with a 2 or 3 sensor touch set-up on Oculus comparing very well to Vive.

It's still an early adopter niche though. I love my Oculus as it offers a truly different gaming experience that I don't think we've really seen since the move from 8bit to 16bit back in the early 90's. Trying Elite Dangerous in VR is pretty much what I'd imagine being a space pilot is like - some things are jaw dropping.

All told though, I'd be surprised if it ended up being anyone's primary gaming mode. I still play most games on a big screen TV because it's just a lot more comfortable for extended periods.

+1, i rarely use my rift for normal gaming. The games are, to be frank a bit poo. They are expensive for what they are and are extremely simplistic in the gameplay department.
That said I use mine extensively in assetto corsa. For a driving sim its a game changer, literally, despite the terrible resolution of the rift unit.
Im guessing Elite will be much the same (and worth getting with VR)

I'm of the mind that this thing will drop in price soon and then there will be an updated version coming out so I have always resisted temptation. Worth getting for Super hot VR which I've played and is incredible.

I love my Vive but just don't use it enough now ! I think this is a good price if you have a rig powerfully enough to get the most out of it already.

Hoping for better deal around Black Friday. At £11 pound off the current price, I’m not sure it’s worth biting. Although with prime, this time tomorrow I could be milking a cow in my living room

To get VR on the cheap buy a used Oculus DK2 for £100 on eBay. It will work with the Oculus store and Steam using an Xbox one gamepad (windows 10) but doesn't work with the Touch controllers. To beef up your desktop pc GPU you can buy a 1050ti for £130 but may also run ok on a lower spec card because the DK2 has lower res than the CV1.
I bought Elite Dangerous for a tenner last week on Steam and use the DK2 to cruise the galaxy!

Edit: if upgrading the graphics card make sure the PC psu has enough power. The nvidia 10 series requires less power than the 9 series so getting an older lower spec card could be a false economy if you then have to upgrade the PSU as well. Also, windows 10 can be downloaded and installed for free.

Great deal.

Yes indeed, DK2 is excellent budget way of experiencing VR. Although Touch prob is half the experience so you'll be missing out on true immersion, but this isn't a problem if you're mainly interested in cockpit games. Elite Dangerous with a Hotas is what accumulates most hours in VR for me and DK2 would suffice for this on a budget.

Cannot wait for December when Oculus introduce Dash, which will allow hw level floating monitors within any game (basically means you can have Netlflix/general browser/any app visiable in a virtual Windows within the game. In ED I will have a couple of additional panels floating either side of me, one Watching a video and the other general browser/notepad

1050Ti will make you sick. Trust me I had a 970 on the vive and lots of dropped frames. Got a 980ti and now it runs smooth.

The Vive/Rift are both 1080x1200 per eye with a 90hz refresh rate. The DK2 is 960x1080 per eye with a 60hz refresh rate so will require less gpu resources to run. The minimum recommended gpu spec for the Oculus Rift is a 1050ti so the DK2 should run fine on one.

Whether you will have a better experience with the Vive/Rift is not in doubt but it's £600/£400 vs £100 for a DK2.

A £1200 pc is not required to run VR and certainly not the DK2.

It’s well worth trying the DK2 kit before forking out £390. I play racing games (mainly) and it is awesome. However I do get VR sickness occasionally and when I do it’s horrible and can feel ill for the rest of the day. There are a few things I have learnt that reduce the chance of me getting sick and now racing games rarely make me sick but I tried Alien isolation in VR a little while ago and got very very sick in a very short space of time. That Mod is an unofficial work in progress - it’s awesome and I really enjoyed feeling like I was in the game but the VR sickness is horrible. For reference I have never been sea sick and I only get travel sick if I’m a passenger for a long time and stay on my mobile (this doesn’t happen often as I’m the main driver).

Back to 400 but it's 370 from hitec via Amazon... Very tempted....

Ordered... Thanks op. 379 with express del from hitec cheers and heat op 🎅
