I've bought a gaming PC and HTC Vive over the last 2 months without getting caught. I've slowly incorporated the PC into the house, I'm hoping Christmas spirit overcomes anger at the headset! It's a 'family' gift

Heat for great price. Expect delivery after Christmas though.
It was 349 on amazon for ages. Then they jacked it up to 399 shortly before oculus priced it to 369. I'll be excited to see their 299 lightning deal again

EDIT: Hmm pretty sure I screwed up with that "299 lightning deal". Can't seem to find it. Can only see Amazon US deal at 399 with 100 gift card return.

Is the Vive worth £250 more?

Not really but it has better room scale out of the box, buy a 3rd sensor for the rift @ £59 and it is negated.

They both do the same thing, play VR games, and apart from price one does the same as the other, Vive has the edge if you have a free room in your house and plan to use it all for VR, but if you have say normal free space in your home like the rest of us the rift does the job perfectly, i am enjoying moderate roomscale with about 9 feet by 7 feet with no issues.

But what ever one you buy be warned, once you let the VR genie out of the bottle there is no going back.

I have just bought this. Tried the hp mixed reality headset and it was very average. Impressive but the lenses let it down badly. Now this product is amazing. Having owned the dev kit 1 and dev kit 2 I was disappointed with the product but they really have fixed everything. The touch controllers are excellent. Such a good product!
personally prefer the Rift to Vive in almost every way. comfier headset and with headphones etc built in, and the Touch controllers are excellent. Also, the rift focuses to infinity.....with Vive headset on, when look at the distant world, its like you can see the boundary box around the game world (a bit like when play a low quality regular game where can see the fake distance and tell its fake)

Key thing to me is ASW. This allow games to be playable even at frame rates of 45fps. Yes, 90fps is better, but face it, some games will never achieve that.....Some vive fans say well people should have the PC hardware capable of 90minimum, but this opens it to a much wider audience and less frustrating experience.

Owned DK1, DK2, CV1, and had loan of mates vive for a week. Never tried the mixed reality yet however

Wish the next gen with foveated rendering would come along though....foveated rendering is a huge game changer for performance increases, so hope its in the next iteration
I can't compare as I only have the vive and have yet to unbox it. I do have a large usable area to make the most of it though which is why I chose it over occulus. I paid 539 including the deluxe strap/audio plus doom vr and fallout 4 vr. Not long to go!
I got the Vive for £350 recently. Is this any better? I have the space in the house but just wondering which of the 2people prefer.
^^^You got the vive for £350, what is not lot like, enjoy.

As for preference it don't really matter, they both play some cracking VR games, but if i were to nitpick, if you have a entire spare room space for VR then go for the Vive, if you have a large to moderate size room space then the rift with it's two sensoers will give you 360 roomscale with no issues.
This was £299 on Amazon I’m sure during Black Friday. Wish I grabbed it then but figured it would be back down in Jan!?

No, just returned my Vive to Scan thinking I was upgrading, I’ll stick to the Oculus.
