U.K. to EU calls now capped 19p/6p texts

Sample story No extra charge for making or receiving calls while roaming Michael lives in Ireland and has a contract with a mobile service provider which includes roaming. Thanks to the EU "roam like at home" rules Michael does not have to worry about paying a surcharge for any calls to EU numbers he makes or receives during a business trip to Spain. Callers from Ireland will be charged the domestic rate for calling Michael. If he calls a local Spanish number, his family in Ireland, or another EU country, he will pay Irish internal domestic prices for these calls. https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/internet-telecoms/mobile-roaming-costs/index_en.htm

matth5182

Yeah pretty sure, I rang landlines and mobiles to book excursions and tickets to a water park whilst in Tenerife and didn't get charged anything. I've also done the same in France and Cyprus and again no charges

zaheer2003

are you sure about this. i reckon you'd be charged as if calling from the uk.

These caps are: €0.19 (around 16p) excluding VAT per minute for calls (including any connection charge); and€0.06 (around 5p) excluding VAT for text messages.

Got a free month worth £41 after having no landline for 5 days with Sky. They tested the line when I reported it and said the fault was on the outside of the house so I wouldn't need to be in when Openreach came out to repair it. The engineer came out on the Tuesday and reckoned the fault was inside the property. Another engineer came out on the Friday and said the fault was outside as per my original conversation with Sky. It turned out my line was 24 volts instead of 50 and had I been on the phone as the same time as next door we could have heard each others calls.

I doubt this is a thing. Its probably for other reasons. Plus the MGLAS is from the point of sale so even if estimates change won't change the fact you were sold at least 26

globula_neagra

Hope you get the gist now, and this is with all the providers, they have created this safety net by decreasing massively the guaranteed speed and with some providers even the maximum speed is lowered to 24. Before the Ofcom changes Your estimated speed: Download: 28-40 Mbps (at least 26 Mbps) Upload: Up to 7 Mbps After Ofcom Changes Your estimated speed: Download: 22-40 Mbps (at least 16 Mbps) Upload: Up to 7 Mbps

Amin_Khan

utilitywarehouse uses talktalk, they have 2 packages 40/10 and 80/20

I wrote intentionally like that :)

Ofcom mobile signal checker app/website
Easily check indoor & outdoor mobile coverage and availability for 3G and 4G services from all four mobile networks. The data is provided to Ofcom by the big four mobile net… Read more
seaniboy

Well that’s not my fault Three haven’t updated the info they gave to Ofcom previously :/

dan44762000

No pal , the site you mention tells me its bad , the Three website reports it accurately, Cold

JamesBody

The problem with this app is that it uses the coverage data supplied by the Mobile Network Operators - and this is just a bit on the 'optimistic' side..... For example - outside our Village Hall - the OFCOM Coverage Checker says that there should be coverage from THREE out of the FOUR networks...... In reality, there is NO COVERAGE..... Apparently O2 now covers 98% of UK properties INDOORS! Not sure which parallel universe that is true in - but it certainly is not true in my reality! Mobile Coverage Obligation

seaniboy

OpenSignal posted above will though

seaniboy

I’ve got it, problem is is crowdsourced and as much use as the person who last used it, on the other hand having a Ofcom app/webpage that says good coverage but you don’t or it has degraded is good evidence to break a contract in minimum term as the service is not of satisfactory standard ;)

Many thanks for this tip, have blocked a couple now after looking them up online and finding that others have flagged the very same phone number.

cbarai

The app has 2 tiers free and paid. The free remains free for as long as you want. The app also only works if people report calls as spam/nuisance calls as the numbers that companies use keep changing frequently. Personally now I dont use the app, I just register for the TPS via the text message once a year. Yes, you need to re-register every so often(12/18 months, I think). I get the odd 1 call a month but apart from that nothing.

ZapGod

When when I get the automated call asking me if I've been involved in an accident I always say yes because I enjoy wasting the time of the human that gets put through. When they ask for details of the accident I normally make up some wacky accident that gets stranger and stranger as I go into more detail. I like to see how long it takes before they give up in frustration. I used to get one a week of these sort of calls now I get one every 2 months. I think they must have put me on some sort of don't call list of their own in bangladesh.

buckm

...and no more calls that you're waiting for from a number you don't know or have yet.

microbar

OFCOM/TPS TWO WORDS. Chocolate Fireguard. Just block everything except known numbers no more spam calls.
