Microsoft has recently released the tech upgrade program for people purchasing the Microsoft Office Suite. This entitles people who buy Office between 05/03/2010 and 30/09/2010 to upgrade for free to the appropriate product line in Office 2010.

This means that anyone who activates their copy of Office between now and the 30th September will be able to qualify for a free upgrade, not just those who purchase as a receipt will only be needed if there is an error in the process

So if anyone purchases Office 2007 Ultimate they will receive a free upgrade to Office 2010 Professional.

Just placed my order and can confirm on the receipt presented it states this will be eligible for a free upgrade so can confirm my theory works.

Is it not free from your Uni? When I was at Uni I got a free copy of Office Pro plus others.

I know I can get it free for on campus use, or through something called Apps Anywhere but this is as great deal for a legit copy for my home PC, plus I will be graduating before Office 2010 is actually released.

Some universities don't offer that program, all depends on the licensing agreement that they have with Microsoft. Plus like potspansamy I am graduating this year as well so won't be able to access it through my uni once it is released.

Plus this is handy if anyone knows a student that doesn't want it

Or of course you could download 2010 beta quite legally for free for use from now until the end of October and then pay for it through the student scheme then if you still need it beyond then. Free sounds better to me lol.

Of course you could if you are still a student in October but I won't be so this is a good deal for me. It might not be for everyone, it just depends on your circumstances and also if Microsoft allows the Ultimate Steal for Office 2010 in it's first year of release.

In the actual conditions for the upgrade, it mentions this:

"This offer is not valid for volume license customers, customers with Not-For-Resale or promotional product, customers who purchase Office 2007 through the Home Use Rights or Student Select programs."

Note the very last part. The "Ultimate Steal" is not part of the Student Select programme, is it?

Cheers

Ultimate Steal and Student Select are two completely different programs. Granted the naming and who it effects adds to confusion but they are definitely not the same and do not cause this offer to be not eligible for the upgrade.

An example of one that is not applicable is the NHS Home Use Program (Don't think that's the proper name of it but never mind) people who obtain a copy of Office through that scheme are not eligible as they are Volume Licensed.

Nice - I'll hang fire until 2010 is released though, quite happy using the beta at the moment.

Ideally Microsoft should upgrade us to ProfessionalPlus, the professional upgrade here will only update 2/3 of the programmes on the Office 2007 disc.

No need to be in any rush if you'l still be a student when 2010 is released. Sites such as Software4Students will sell it for the same price.

I couldn't see this price with your link, here's one which confirms the price:

(Please ignore my last post if it gets posted), I don't know if it's possible to change but it would be better if the Go To Deal link went to the Ultimate Steal link.

Do you have to be attending college to get this.
I'm 67 so doubt if I'll be enrolling
is there any other way?

Balls!

There were a few people older than yourself at my university who just wanted to learn something new after completing their careers You do however need a .ac.uk (or .open.ac.uk) address which is only available to university students.

really cheap

I have it set to that but Microsoft must have some Javascript or something running which is detecting the link-through. Unfortunately people will just have to use the link posted in the main post.

so we just need to know someone with a .ac.uk address right? and this can be put on multiple PC's?

or free download within a week ok release once its cracked? :P

Not knocking the deal if you want this (which I know people do) but you can get a copy of OpenOffice, a perfectly capable compatible office suite for free...

I've used this company several times for Microsoft products, I am not a student, I don't have kids but I do like cheap things

Great deal, voted hot. Not sure whether to buy now or later as I already have several copies of Office 2007, but when 2010 comes out I'll buy this way.

No your talking about the MSDNAA scheme which gives you access to most Microsoft software and OSes apart from Office.

Top deal! Im gonna persuade my girlfriend to let me use her ac.uk address!

quick question.... when the 2010 software becomes available will you still need that same .ac email address to download the updated version do you think?....... Just trying to think of ways round this for non students

Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit), Vista and XP Compatible.

Installation on up to 2 PC’s.

Users are allowed to purchase ONE version of this Office product for each eligible student."

For anyone who's not a student, and doesn't have children still in education, anyone know the cheapest way of getting Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint (legally)?

I see any amount of the stuff all over eBay, but most of it looks iffy.

Thanks for that. Good deal, but Microsoft have crippled it by not including Outlook.

Having bought Office 2007 not too long ago, but missing out on this free upgrade, it's good to know this will probably mean that Office 2010 will be available on studentsteal also.

I hope they offer an upgrade deal.
