Possibly the most stupid comment I've ever read on here!

Does your 'Expensive kit' weigh more than average priced equipment then?

Looks like something I had in the last 80s, early 90s. I don't really think you can argue for a fiver though. Still a deal HOT!

It's pretty nasty, but perfect for my mate to use while she finds something decent. Thanks!

How the hell was that a stupid comment? Get back to your Dell, fool.

Really?... Monitors all weigh about the same, expensive laptops (Mac range etc) weigh less then cheaper ones and desktop you would place on the floor anyway... Im sure it'll manage whether your kit is expensive or not.

I have an ipad not a Dell. Anyway, it was a stupid comment because the poster was implying that the table was flimsily built and therefore would not take the weight of their 'expensive kit'. Please tell me and the other posters who liked my comment on how something being expensive means it weighs more than cheaper kit?

Not how I read it. "My kit is expensive and I'm not going to risk it on a cheap and flimsy desk" was my reading - ie. expensive kit deserves better. Don't see how weight comes into it. But feel free to accuse people of stupidity if it makes you feel better than them.

HUKD is becoming more and more passive aggressive by day, and quite unpleasant to read.

We may not share the poster's opinion, but not wanting to place expensive equipment (which doesn't have to be a boast...all our monitors/towers/laptops are expensive, relatively) on what is possibly a not particularly sturdy piece of furniture is perfectly reasonable. Frankly it's in keeping with this site's theme.

Anyway - £5 for a desk of any quality within reason is a good deal. So hot!

perfect for me if i can find it in my nearest store

Why would you put a £400 laptop on a £4.99 desk ?

Apologies to rpope.

I thought you were being facetious.

Sorry for being rude.

awesome deal just put mine together good quality the checkout girl had to check price twice as she also couldn't believe the price lol well done for finding this deal

super £39.99 in my local store took to the till scanned at £4.99 yay

perfect for my £20000 pc and laptop and gold bars

good find

I bought one of these about 8 years ago. I put my £2000 PC and £400 Iiyama CRT monitor on it.

Still got it now, but it holds a different PC and two 24-inch LCD screens.

It's a fair comment, but it's all about weight distribution. The only way that desk would be unsturdy is if a) the top part was heavier than the drawers AND b) the left side is a flimsy piece of wood. The left side would have to crumple for the desk to pose any risk of collapsing. Bearing in mind that it is supported from the back by a support piece, assuming the desk is flimsy, it would take a significant amount of weight placed on the left side to collapse (I'd say the equivalent of an adult standing on it for a sustained length of time).

Seeing as few PCs I know of weigh 50kg, unless you're planning to put some kind of monstrous supercomputer on the desk (which would probably make the desk space redundant anyway), support wise it would be fine. Sturdiness wise, the drawers on the right and the back support will prevent it from being wobbly. Probably looks as cheap as it is (in finish and in the wood used), but for the average non-NASA scientist, this looks like a fantastic bargain. I wouldn't get it if you have 2 widescreen monitors though, because I'm not sure there's the desk space to support 2.

I have seen reviews of a computer table, NOT THIS ONE, where the overriding theme was that if you breathed on it, it would collapse.

So, expensive or cheap, neither would want to be risked on such a table.

But if the kit is more expensive the potential financial cost of damage is greater so you would be less likely to want to risk that.

It remains to be seen if this computer desk/table is OK, I would expect it to be able to take the weight of an average setup, perhaps not put the desktop Tower unit on the table, but then who normally does anyway. Well, I just glanced over at my old Win 98 clunker sitting on a sturdy table and realise I do for a start.

As to weight comparison expensive kit versus less expensive kit, it could be argued that the expensive kit is more expensive because there is MORE OF IT. If so, perhaps it might weigh more. You know, monitor speaker bars, external drives, power supply units, disks, technical books related to what the kit is used for, etc.

I also agree with Matt J about what he said, and I like the fact that Mark211 said sorry about misinterpreting the comment that started this all off.

Thanks to the OP for posting this by the way, £5 is a bargain, even if you just use it for firewood!!!
