Worth noting that they require USB power.

As per this, the device should come with mains power (it is optional depending on if you need it). You can choose to provide USB power, if you have a TV that supports it. I was concerned the device is chunky enough to block other HDMI ports. However it appears you get an extender in the box as well.

I've bought one and heat added. I'm forever using a long HDMI cable from my TV to Laptop to watch vids off etc in larger format. Chromecast mixed with Plex looks fantastic and well worth the money just to tinker with. You have Roku etc doing similar things but if this is supported well, it might be a great little device!

Like other people have said too, there is cashback on gift cards meaning you could get it even cheaper

Quick spot by the OP but the postage might be savable. Already on the currys website, although showing as out of stock right now: currys.co.uk/gbu…tml

Doubt it as lovefilm use Microsoft silverlight which isn't available on any android hardware except the Amazon kindle range of tablets. It works with Netflix so it is possible, it's Amazon that are stopping this happening in the hope more people will buy its crappy kindle fire.

what else can.u do with this usb dongle..apart for from youtube.netflix.bbciplayer..??which i think.are just but normal apps we already have on our smartphones....nowadays...can anybody here elaborate further..for people who have no idea what this is for really..???

With a US price of $35, I was hoping this would be priced a bit cheaper than £33. At £20 it would have been an instant purchase, but at £33 I'm willing to wait for a sale.

finally it has arrived, this will get scorching hot

I've got a smart bluray player with lovefilm, netflix e.t.c.. so i'm not sure i'd need one of these. won't stop me from buying one though

Warlock09 has a point. What does this do that any of the other devices doesn't? The NowTV box was a tenner and I bet there are now a lot of them sold because of that price point.

You sound like a guy after my own heart. Not sure what I can use it for but It can always keep the raspbery pi company in the cupboard if It is no use. Seriously though, is it really any good?,

Should we expect amazon to also sell this soon?

nowtv box can do the same job is only 34.99 what u get free nowbox + 5 month nowtv movie subscription ...I got one of them etc ....

I'm really waiting for a solid miracast device this device so that I can push any content to TV from any device.
but at this price chromecast is really worth

I have one, bought it from eBay around a month ago.

Most are right, this is just a Netflix, YouTube, Googler Music, etc player AT THE MOMENT! With the release of the SDK for this, the amount of apps is about to go through the roof. BBC iPlayer have already made an app with cast ability, pending UK release, and plenty of others will follow suit,

For playing local content, Allcast and BubbleUpnp are essential apps. There are also games appearing for this like Dehumanise your friends and kids games.

This will turn any HDMI capable TV into a smart TV, but they should continue to be developed for, unlike some TVs that get left being when the next gen comes out. Set up is easy, quality is excellent, and anyone with and android phone (and some iOS apps) can easily cast to it.

Until Google inevitably release its own chromecast store app (or at least section of the play store) this shows you which apps have the casting ability (88 apps and 11 games so far)... lifehacker.com/cas…212

Can the now tv box cast?. I have two and have not seen that on them. Just looking at a review on youtube, looks pretty good. Any users out there like to give an honest opinion before we all purchase one?

Hmmmm...I'm a bit underwhelmed with this. I think the Roku £50 stick thingy is a better buy for me. But it's horses for courses.

Chromecast doesn't just work with Android. It might work casting Lovefilm from Chrome browser on laptop/PC, but I haven't tried.

As well as Curry's/PC World being reputedly cheaper, Amazon UK are rumoured to also be selling it so may be with waiting?

Looks like a great deal to me so here's some heat.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll benefit from getting one of these though as I'm trying to cater for streaming both high quality 1080p and 3D 1080p .mkv with DTS/5.1 soundtracks via LAN connected NAS to the TV.

So far the only guaranteed methods are via the PC (Plex Server) straight to the TV or via a USB hard drive attached to my Blu Ray player (which defeats the point of the NAS). Having a high end PC on just to watch a movie isn't really very cost effective either.

My Blu Ray player should be up to the job now its hooked up via 500mb Zyxel powerlines but alas it's still useless at streaming (as it most certainly will have a 100mbit network port)

So I'm in need of either a cheap networkable device with 1080p playback that'll stream over gigabit or I'll be needing to build a low power plex server...just thought I'd share that rationale

Possibly worth waiting a few hours to see if they update the stock levels at Currys/PCWorld as then you can go to store and get it for £30 instead... I will be going to Currys at lunchtime today to see...

i've been watching a few youtube videos about what it can do and at the risk of making it sound a bit too basic, it basically just lets you squirt the output from your PC (or Mac to be fair!) or mobile device to your TV.

So i suppose if you're watching Netflix on your phone, you can sling it over to your TV. You're still using your data allowance to stream a film, but you can watch it on the big screen rather than a small screen.

This is where i think i'd never need one as i've got all those apps installed on my bluray player.

The one thing i can see it being quite popular for though is for watching "hooky" content - imagine if you watch "free" football online. you can just squirt it across to your TV using this.

I dont get the hype about this. Smart tvs have all these apps already, so unless it will transmit personal stuff whats the point. If you dont have a smart tv then stop using HUKD, you might save some money to buy one

Just bought a second one of these. I got one at Christmas and that is permanently hooked to TV in the bedroom and paired with Plex.TV for the best streaming tool Ive seen in a long while. And this 2nd one will go in the lounge and will ultimately be replacing my dated PCH 110a as media streamer of choice. The future is definitely casting as more apps cone on board you can control from your smart devices. And for £30...bargain.

Very useful if you don't have smart TV etc love having Netflix on my main Plasma

anyone know if i can use this or anything else to watch sky go on my tv from my galaxy note 2? I used to use the all share cast dongle but they stopped that from working, im guessing it will be a no but worth asking

Could you have Spotify running on your phone and send this to the TV ? (making use of home cinema speakers)

Not at the moment, and unless sky do some renegotiation it seems unlikely as they've disabled HDMI output from mobile devices.

I think a lot of people seem to missing the a big feature of this; casting content from a computer, tablet or smartphone. So no, its not just like your smart TV

Just wanted to check with someone who does have one; if I cast a chrome tab that is streaming a video on my PC; will Chromecast play it no issues, or does the computer just send the URL of the chrome tab and the Chromecast has to support the format?

Just google "spotify chromecast". Seems there are ways.

Amazon link anyone?

I use plex to stream all my media from my PC, controlled by my phone.

Agreed on the Miracast comment. This is what I want... Miracast

I got the model down from this a while ago, PANASONIC DMP-MST60EBS Digital Media Streamer and it does Miracast perfectly to my large screen TV. Currently on offer in PC world for £39.
