Yep. So sick of the pessimism and ungratefulness on here recently, as if people need to prove themselves when they have been on the forums for 18 months with 200+ posts. It's mad. Thanks for taking the time to post King.

I might be wrong but don't think Game stores have the ability to check stock in other stores? So might be easiest to give your local store a quick ring Although I doubt there will be many left if you alert the staff of the price! lol

Staff don't get discount on Offers or Clearance items.

Also no, i couldn't be bothered to carry them home. Too busy enjoying the sunshine.

Will this give the better quality pic than the cable that came pre packed with the wii or should i just buy a Wii Component cable?.

Sunshine, whats that haven't had any here for a couple of days:-D

Depends on the TV.
The included composite on the Wii turns out quite nice on some TVs.
BTW if you're taking it to Sydney they don't use scart IIRC

My panasonic TV in sydney which i bought from jb hi fi has scarts on the rear, in fact i think they all the tv`s i looked at had.

yeah when it comes to TV standards etc australia are pretty much the same as the UK, even uses the PAL signal. most other non euro countries dont though

My advice would be to ditch using the Wii with SCART and use a component lead instead. You get almost HD graphics and far improved sound. They only cost a few quid.

It is amazing how many people still don't have a hd telly though.

I thought SCART carried the same signals as Component/Composite/S-Video but in a single connector? And RGB is component.

composite and s-video dont carry a RGB signal and scart is slightly better quality so on a standard tube tv and some basic HDTVs you should notice the difference. component is slightly better for a HDTV though

Are u serious if this is true, man i will be like so happy lol.

The standard wii comes with composite cables.

The RGB cable will give a significant improvement over it, with better defined colours and less colour blur (if you look close at the picture around the edges of objects I saw distinct anomalies with the colouring) so this is a quick fix if you have a spare scart (RGB) compatible socket.

However I went for a component cable, good with HDTVs and gave a very noticeable improvement over composite (standard) - however they should perform about the same as RGB as it uses the same principal.

All I know is that for us the component cable gives us a strikingly better picture over the SCART and the sound is much improved as well. Even the sound that comes from the remote seems clearer for some reason.

>> I thought SCART carried the same signals as Component/Composite/S-Video but in a single connector? And RGB is component.

If you believe the guy in my GAME store, sure. Otherwise....

Component (usually YPbPr or YCbCr)
RGBs
S-video (YC)
and Composite (YUV)

are all different types of video signals. General quality is in order from top to bottom, and it's pretty noticeable when comparing images side by side (eg. RGBs has much brighter green and yellows, better shading, and slightly less noise).

Component, SCART, s-video and composite (rca) connectors are used to carry the signals, but most can carry multiple ones (possibly at the same time). SCART carries either RGB and/or composite most of the time, but can carry component aswell. Component can carry an RGB signal with sync encoded to one of the colors.

Or something like that... google it or whatever. But in short, an RGB Scart cable should give a better picture than composite, but not as good as component.

Its amazing how many people have hdtv's but only use them with sd sources.

I have an sd plasma and an hd plasma and sd broadcasts and the wii for that matter look much better on the sd plasma.

The vast majority of people in this country still only watch sd broadcasts and for them an hdtv would reduce picture quality

LOL!

What's your experience - have you tried it?

I get 480 with my component lead and although that isn't HD it's a much better resolution then I get with the SCART and technically is higher definition, but maybe not high.

Of course I have, and though it looks slightly better on my HDTV, it still looks absolute abysmal compared to the PS3.

And no, you get 480p with the component cable instead of 480i that you get with composite/SCART, meaning you get a progressive signal and not an interlaced one. Saying the resolution is much better is false, they are the same.

We have a PS3 as well and there isn't any comparison. However, on our TV using a component cable instead of SCART the picture is significantly much better. Every one else immediately noticed without any prompting and judging by most of the reviews around good luck with your verdict.

Wow!! Cheaper than chips!
