Old Speckled Hen Ale, 12 x 500ml Cans (and Bottles where stocked) for £9.00 at Tesco

Found 6th Dec 2011
Tesco have packs of 4 x 500ml Cans of Old Speckled Hen Ale in a 3 for £9.00 offer.

Thanks to andym6561for pointing out that the packs of 4 x 500ml bottles are also included in this deal.

This is 75p per can, and works out much cheaper than buying the packs of 8 x 440ml cans in the 4 for £25 deal.

Also in the 3 for £9.00 deal are packs of 4 x 440ml cans of Murphy's Irish Stout. 75p a can is very good if you drink this.

There are various other 4 packs of cans of lager and beer in this 3 for £9.00 deal, but most of them can be had cheaper elsewhere.

I see the alcohol content comes before the flavour!

Love this stuff from the cask, drinkable fizzed up in bottles, but I don't like it in cans.

Hot price though

The 500ml bottles are also 3 packs for £9

Nice deal.

That's good to know. Certainly it's a cracking deal to get this ale for 75p per bottle.

The only trouble is that very few stores seem to stock the 4 packs of the bottles.

Lidl have a good deal on bottled beer.....8 for £8 500ml Burton Bitter,I prefer glass. Also don't like giving my money to Tesco in light of recent allegations (Panorama)

As far as canned ale goes, this is one of the best tasted out there, possibly the best IMO. Deal is hot, just save some for me please!

Great deal, just a pity our Tesco never seems to have any instock until the offers end

This was much stronger and tastier when it was brewed in Abingdon.

how does this compare with marstons pedigree

The Lidl offer is pretty good but it's a very ordinary beer and doesn't bear comparison with OSH (I like it though) .

I don't think the Panorama 'revelations' will surprise anyone who's had their eyes open when they shop and they are ALL at it. At least they are fighting each other for our business so there is an overall effect of keeping prices lower than they would otherwise be. You just have to be wary of buying the wrong things at the wrong time - eg anyone who pays 'normal' price for cheese or dishwasher tabs or those wines they line up for the offers needs to have their head examined. In my view Tesco are the 'least bad' of the big chains in terms of range and value (don't have an Asda nearby though). I'm buying more and more at Aldi these days: the quality and prices are excellent but the range is limited.

That's me sorted for Christmas...don't understand why all the beer offers are for lager, wouldn't it be nice to have the same number of ales on offer

Sounds like a good deal for OSH. I do like this ale, so will be stocking up.

I wish there would be some deals on Badger ales. Tanglefoot, Fursty Ferrett and Hopping Hare are my faves by a mile.

is this really 500ml cans? dont think ive ever seen those. If so its a good deal.

Yes it really is 500ml cans. They had a shelf full of these packs in my local Tesco today.

Yes, andym6561 pointed this out yesterday and as a result I included the fact in the thread title and in the original post.

OSH tins have a plastic lining so you wouldn't be able to spot any difference in taste from bottled.

great price for a nice drink

Got to Tesco's nothing is written up as regards this offer and the wine and beer bloke knew nothing about it. I got a manager to do a price check for me. Sweet three packs bought for £9.00.

Got the last 3 on the shelf today f**kin bargain, £9 for 12 bottles.

cheers OP. Still plenty in Lincoln.

Anyone know if this is still available? Wife reports nothing on shelf labels. Tesco.com says "Sorry, this product is currently unavailable."

Not listed amongst the other 3 for £9 offers: tesco.com/gro…806

Maybe just out of stock, centrally?

I think this is just a question of there being no stock in your local online store.

Certainly the offer was still on in my local store yesterday and they had plenty of stock on the shelf.

Update from the wife: she took three 4-packs to the till and got them scanned. They came up as £12, no offers. Checkout girl was typically condescending and suggested it was probably an online offer.

I wasn't logged in to tesco.com when I checked those pages so I doubt it was related to my local online depot. Does it show online when you look?

This deal was still very much on in the store I visited today.

No, the deal is due to expire on January 3.

It seems like the packs of the bottles have been withdrawn from the offer though.
