Olympus E-410SE DSLR camera kit

Included are -

Olympus E-410 Digital SLR Camera
17.5-45mm lens
40-150mm lens
Holdall

The price with free delivery is £349
Use code YAW825 for 5% discount = £331.55
£50 cashback from Olympus until 31st December = £281.55
I also used Quidco for a possible 5% back(about £16)
and Capital One 4% cashback for another £13 back

In total I'm hoping to get the camera for about £252

I've read some good reviews for the camera, but the included 17.5-45mm lens is a special budget version that is not quite as sharp as the more normal 14-42mm kit lens.

One of the few cams with live preview just a shame it doesn't have the better lens.

I haven't had a DSLR before, so this looks like a good way to try one out. If I find that I can see any problems with the budget 17.5-45mm lens (but I doubt it, compared to my existing 2MP Powershot A40), then they sell for about £20-30 on Ebay, and you can pick up a 14-42mm for about £50-60.

How did you get the free postage?

Very nice price for a 10MP DSLR kit with an additional 40-150mm lens and holdall. The lens usually sells for £150 I believe.

I have the upgrade of this camera. And this is still a bargain. This kit is worth around £500

Bit deceiving. The initial price is £331. You have to wait for the cash back.
I couldn't walk into Currys and pay £281.

I wouldn’t actually call it deceiving as it’s a straightforward cashback but it would be good to include the word cashback in the title.

I just noticed that the cashback states:

“Cash back offer available to purchasers of the Olympus E-410 Digital SLR Camera body, and Olympus E-410 together with either a single lens
(14-42mm or 17-35) or a twin lens kits (14-42mm and 40-150mm) or (17-35mm and 40-150mm)”

Since this comes with a 17.5-45mm lens I suppose there’s a chance it may not be included in the cashback! Or does it come with a 17-35?

As you will be purchasing at least the body, it should be straightforward. Also, the wording on the Curry's advert states that it is eligible for £50 cashback. Perhaps a screen print would be good insurance in case of a dispute?

When I paid this morning it was automatic free delivery on everything over £249, but I think you can use code AWFREESALE.

Click on the link that says "read terms and conditions" for confirmation of cashback.

Hi everyone,

thanks for posting such nice deals everyday, I am maxing out all my credit cards now...

just one question for all that experts though?

does this camera worth spending that £290.00 and is it really good deal? as I dont see much heat added. like 500-1000 degree.

thanks in advance for anybodys sensible reply.

thanks.

This is a bargain. Shame it's the lower spec lens but still a great deal! I was thinking about the E410 twin lens kit 14-42 & 40-150 for which the cheapest I've seen is £499 less £50 cashback but this is substantially cheaper!

This is what mine comes out at assuming all goes well

The price with free delivery is £349 (code AWFREESALE)
Use code YAW825 for 5% discount = £331.55
£50 cashback from Olympus until 31st December = £281.55
I also used Quidco for a possible 5% back(about £16)
and Egg card 1% cashback for another £3 back

I make my total of around £262 after cashback.

Many thanks for the OP

the 5% code no longer works as no more home deliveries, or is it just me?

This must have just changed as I only ordered mine 1.5 hours ago. Maybe they've just run out of stock for home deliveries for now.

I noticed the 5% code doesn't work with home deliveries.

Edit. Just noticed that it's available for £349 @ dixons also. Not sure if any discount codes available of if the Egg 3%+5% discount still applies.

The up-to one second (!) shutter lag was putting me off this one. That and no IS. Otherwise, it's an ace deal.

have this camera ands its just great - get it! - its so light and small you end up using it a lot.

What up to one second shutter lag? I have the E-510 (which is much the same as this one) and it suffers no such shutter lag.

Olympus image stablisation is done in camera and gets great reviews in the photo mags.
It is much cheaper than buying lenses with built in IS. Their current range of lenses are on a par with canon/nikon or slightly better.
Live view isn't great in low light.
I have the E-510 it's an excellent camera the only thing I dislike is the manual focusing & the cost of the few olympus compatible flashguns.

Acc. to a review. I think it was in Live Preview mode. Time taken for the mirror to flip etc. Note I said "up to" not all the time.

Looks like a very good camera and a good deal - just a couple of things putting me off. Only discovered this morning that in Live Preview mode you have to focus manually, which could be awkward for me if I didn't have my specs. Would you use it apart from still life photography? Also the viewfinder image isn't supposed to be as large/clear as other DSLRs.

Also wasn't aware that the E-410 had any image stabilisation.

If any Olympus users can throw any light on these comments it would be appreciated.

SirHugo

I have ordered one but not used one as yet.

I see this camera a d D-SLR with an optical viewfinder which has an option to use liveview similar to a point and shoot camera. I think most who use this camera will use it as normal with occasional use for live view as it does use more battery and also slower in operation.

It can autofocus in live view but the mirror has to be flipped up to do so, so it's not perfect as point and shoot mode. I mostly see advantages in certain angles where it's difficult to view with optical viewfinder.

There is an excellent video here where you can see it in action here -

Although confusingly the picture from currys/dixons site seems to show the inferior 17.5-40 standard lens, but the superior mark ii 40-150 lens. I think the only thing to do is to wait and see which one comes.

I have just checked with Currys and the 40-150 lens that is supplied is the older but faster f/3.5-4.5 model which is also a lot heavier than the newer f4-5.6 version.

I have decided to cancel my order as I wanted a lighter set-up but this is still a great buy for anyone wanting a D-SLR set-up with a double zoom kit.

Spec of the different lenses can be found here

Thanks for this as I couldn't see which lens it was. I see what you mean about the weight.

When I check this, it says available for reserve and collection only, no home delivery. This means I cannot use the 5% voucher I think. Have I got this right?

No wait, when I put in the basket it does give the home delivery option- sorry!

I ordered this 2 minutes ago for home delivery with the 5% off and free postage.

It does look as if it’s Reserve and Collect only but if you click on the “Click here to check stock’ button which is next to the ‘reserve & collect’ button the Home Delivery icon appears. Then click add to basket and off you go.

Rep added for OP.

I received mine today and it came with the 17.5-45mm lens and the newer style compact 40-150mm f4-5.6 ED lens + an Olympus E-400 DZK case.

Tempting I must admit.

DH bought one for me today, he bought the next package with the tripod and memory card, looks great:thumbsup:

Just need to work out how to use it now! lol

these packages are very hard to come by in store now. Most of my local stores are missing parts of the package (usually either the case or the zoom lens). If you want one, buy it sooner rather than later.

I went to my local store and they were out of stock but they are taking orders for when stock returns.

They told me the offer finishes on Monday. I played with the display model and compared to the Canon 400D and Nikon D40X.

I must admit, it's a nice lightweight D-SLR but I felt the more pronounced hand grip of the Canon and Nikon felt more comfortable IMO.

A better deal than on the Canon & Nikon having 2 lenses and bag but I've decided to get a Canon 400D instead.

I got one of these today from jessops. Got them to price match as there are no available in kent any more.
Did'nt get the olympus bag but a Lowepro Nova 1 AW bag which is great quality.
The other bonus was that it is the better 14-42 lense and the new 40-150mm. I don't know what the difference is but eveyone seems to be saying this is better!
£349-£50 cashback £299!
Very Pleased

I received the camera this afternoon, but I couldn't find the warranty card anywhere. Did you get yours? Thanks.

Original Poster

Yes, there were warranty cards for the body and each of the two lenses. In the main box, the serial number on the warranty card should be visible through the rectangular hole in the top.
