let me guess ends in .97 = no stock

It may soon be an old model buts a great model. I've got one of these and love it, OK at some point I'll be upgrading but I can wait a good few years yet. This has all I need.

If you can find one, even if you have to travel to Norwich, I'd say it was worth it. Maybe you could stay in a Linton Travel Tavern with Alan

.97 = limited stock.

There's one/some in Lewisham.

Compares reasonably well to the likes of the Nikon D40X dpreview.com/rev…asp

Other reviews: ephotozine.com/art…wed
imaging-resource.com/PRO…HTM
photographyblog.com/rev…php

N.B. most reviews include the 14-42 lens (28-84 35mm equivalent) which apparently is a better lens.

If you want telephoto there's the Sigma 55-200mm f/4-5.6 from Jessops for £100 jessops.com/Pro…529 although a better bet for a twin lens solution might be the 510 kit for £385 already posted hotukdeals.com/ite…nc/

Thats stock in Catford

None around Manchester or Cumbria but managed to reserve one in Liverpool (Garston).

ridiculosly cheap.............. these are amazing quality cameras, the … ridiculosly cheap.............. these are amazing quality cameras, the lens are designed by Leica, and I rate the cameras as the best in class.

I thought Olympus designed and made it's own Zuiko lens. Leica makes lens for parent company Panasonic and both licensed 4/3 technology from Olympus to create their DSLR ranges.

Beware! This camera comes with a cheap 17.5 - 42mm lens (not the better 14 - 42mm). Also the e-410 has no IS and has less functions to the e-510. I am an Olympus user but I believe that the Nikon D40 for £247 previously listed on Hotuk is the better deal.

All true..... but the Zuiko lens are designed by Leica, for Olympus........then get built in a factory in china, but it explains why the kit lens are such great quality optically........ they dont brand them as Leica, probably so as not to have to pay royalties, but they are leica designs........

ps: yes, 17.5mm lens is not as good as the 14mm one.......but at least as good as average for all other non-Olympus SLRs under £ 500

Hmmm, depends, is the Nikon lens any better than the 17.5mm Olympus one ?

This is the under £ 300 question

either way, SLRs are really cheap these days, pickup a photography mag from 5 years ago and weep at the specs and prices then !!!! yikes !!!

If you print this page off, you should be able to price match this in Currys store that still have stock. It's no longer on the website, but for the few stores that have it, its listed at £299.97, so £100 difference + 10% of the difference is another £10 saved. Thats seriously cheap.

This is not true at all - the Zuiko Digital lenses are an Olympus build and design apart from a handful of them which are Sigma based. (18-180mm, 70-300mm and possibly the 17.5-45mm) This is no bad thing though as most Zuiko Digital lenses are extremely highly regarded, as were the Zuiko lenses before them.

What you may be getting confused by is that Leica are a 4/3 partner and they do have some 4/3 lenses under their own name which are the 14-50mm (mk 1, came with L1), 14-50mm mk2 (slower, comes with L10), 25mm F1.4 and the 14-150mm. These are built by Panasonic under Leica's quality control, most of the Panasonic bodies and cameras have a Leica twin.

I have to say I have mixed feelings about this deal and I'm probably the most diehard Olympus user here - 17.5-45mm is ok for a kit lens in terms of quality but the range it covers is rubbish, 35-90mm means no wide angle and there's also no lens hood. The 14-42mm kit lens as mentioned is a far better lens which covers a better focal length, has a lens hood and very good image quality, the best of the kit lenses. If after this type of camera which is a good one I'd keep an eye on a blow out deal with the 14-42mm as that's a lens you can keep, this one is really body only as you're going to need a reasonable normal range lens.

There's a waft of bovine excrement permiating the air :whistling:

showing up as £269 fo me, expired i guess

I've owned the e410 and e510...I photograph people on the street mainly. I've never got a good shot out of either of these, without having to fiddle with settings. I've sold both..I think to be fair I really needed something like the cannon 5d or Nikon d300....My main probs with these cameras is the auto focus..which really gets confused quite often ...the short dynamic range...most highlights are bleached out.....the softness of pic...you need to turn filters of to avoid this....When I take pics I don’t have a second to adjust menu’s etc …its shooting from the hip…..neither of these can do that effectively.

WTF ?

this guy has never owned either and is just reeling off some comments he read elsewhere........ the lens on Oly are far better than kit lens on anything else, and the camera is semi pro, far more feautres than anything else at this price

why so angry?....read it again
"I've owned the e410 and e510"

Why revive this old thread just for that? I suspect the comments are because cats does own these cameras and has had great results out of them, I have the E-510 and never had AF problems (it's the most accurate AF I've used) and the short dynamic range is mainly down to the default jpeg tone curve which is easy to sort. I don't know where the softness comment comes from as even with kit lenses these cameras were sharp and even more so with some of the excellent ZD glass.
