looks like a nice wide-ish replacement for kit lens' if people bought lower to mid end m4/3 cameras.

macro + splash and dust proof ( "splash and dust proofing are only if the camera is" - thanks jazzuk777 ). good for video too.

2.5 year warranty when registered too. pretty good.

fairly good reviews mostly for it at full price so i think this is a good buy. I've grabbed one.

good price but odd lens

Edited by: "brilly" 5th Dec 2016

Very good price, worth a mention the splash and dust proofing are only if the camera is too, eg using with most of the omd series

yeah agreed. my main reason for purchase is that finding a cheap-ish wide angle lens in m43 is quite difficult. this is, i think, as cheap as it gets for something as low as 12mm.

I took this lens travelling in borneo and malaysia, I think it's better than it has any right to be, especially at this price. Super convenient, lightweight, sealed, good for video with the power zoom and the quasi-macro mode is very useful. I have the 12-40mm 2.8 now and this doesn't get used. But it's 5 times the price and 3 times the weight.

just looked, never realised there were so few cheap options at wide angle in micro 4/3rds
24mm equivalent isn't even that wide

The Oly 9-18 used to be cheapish but has almost doubled in price recently.

I snagged one just before the price rise but whilst the cashback was still on

Even sub £300 it's build is pretty cheap.

Hmm, wonder how this would behave with my gx7. It's M4/3 mount right?

I went through the stages of buying cheap lenses, after a while wished i had bought a decent lens in the first place!

The Panasonic 3.5-5.6 12-32mm pancake is pretty good for the money - regularly go in near mint condition for well under £150 on camera forums. (obviously not got sealing etc though!)

Yes it is M4/3. I think IRRC correctly OIS is in the body on Olympus but in lenses on Panasonics? So that might be worth bearing in mind or at least checking out?

Quasi-macro? It IS macro isn't it? Seems to do a fairly good job though I am probably not expert enough to say!

really nice lens, its not left my camera since i got it!

You're welcome - I'd mention the macro function too in your post as it gives the lens extra flexibility.

....oh and if you can find the 25mm prime for the same price that'd be just dandy

Oh!

Just bought it for my GX7, will it not work?

It should work on the GX7, but you will only have the image stabilisation provided by the camera. You will not get any IOS from the lens as you would with a Panasonic lens.

Do I need to change any settings in the menu if using this Olympus lens instead of a Panasonic branded one?

It's 0.36x maximum magnification. a macro lens would normally be 1:1. However because the micro 4/3 sensor is smaller it's really not too far off what a normal macro lens on a full frame camera would achieve (0.72x).

according to photographyblog review its higher in reality - if you compare the pic with the 90mm sony FE pic the apparent magnification seems to be virtually identical

Good Lens for the price, much better than most kit lenses - Metal Mount + weather proofing + Macro capability. Good price too (£209 elsewhere). Hot!

Looks a decent lens for the money.

So is this just the standard kit lens?

Yes, except the macro capability is actually quite good. Here's a review and some sample photos.

Is this the kit lens that came with the OM-D? If so it's stupendously good, especially for the money.

I'd definitely buy this if m4/3 cameras weren't so damn useless (_;)

This is probably the best m4/3 kit lens there is, but it's not stupendously good. You could be thinking of the 12-40 f2.8, which is in a different league.

Just ordered one, to good a price not to!

The 12-40mm 2.8f is not really comparable at 7 times the price!

I bought mine from them last week via eBay. Great price, the only thing that was annoying, they sent it with parcel force and in a plastic bag, which means the lens box got damaged

Thanks for the response. So all the e-Zoom stuff is built into the lens? Sounds good. Tempting!

The gx7 has OIS in some of its lenses, but also there's OIS to some extent in the body (although not as effective obvs). It definitely helps take away the little vibrations and shakes when using my Canon FD adapter and lenses.

Thanks
