I'm not sure whether to get this or the a5100, but this seems like a good deal because the MZukio lens itself is worth £140.

If you want out and out IQ then get the Sony a5100, if you want a full zoom setup for ease of use and cheaper startup kit then get this
Good kit and cracking price - I use an E-PL5 and am delighted with it!
How good is this compared to the Nikon D3300? (I realise that's a DSLR!)

Thanks

The D3300 will have better image quality due to the larger sensor and lack of AA filter, it also has a viewfinder which is useful for composing shots with. This comes with the second lens though which will give you a much longer zoom range.
my son has the D3300 its an awesome camera

I mainly would want to use the camera for video b-roll, but just something cheap to start with. I want to do product reviews and get cool video shots like how HardwareCanucks does, I know that they probably have gear worth thousands but that's the style of video I want to do. The D3300 is about £279, the A5100 was £274 - £279, and so is this. Which would be the best?

I would personally go for the Sony for video as the hybrid pdaf and cdaf focussing is second to none
For video this is not the best camera but image quality is very good on this..

Probably the A5100, the Panasonic G7 could be worth a look also. This has a flip out screen and does 4K video. Currently £319 (with cashback)

That's actually a great idea as that seems better value than this in my opinion. The lowest the G7 has been on Amazon is £519, so the G7 at £319 is a bargain. It can take up to 2 months for the cashback though

The more important decision, do you want to have a micro four thirds system, or a sony E-mount. Once you have decided that, then choose the camera you want in the system you want. The first interchangeable lens camera you buy will likely be long gone in a few years time, but you will likely still be using the system - it is expensive to change systems once you have spent a lot of money on lenses, accessories, batteries etc..\

The Sony is a fine system, but the lens selection is better in the micro four thirds world, and the camera / lens combination will be smaller. Take the following for example -

Pat I am exactly like you but would like to use it mainly on holiday (Asia and South America). Would like a camera to get far away shots of wildlife and wide enough to capture views with end goal of using as canvas or large picture. Ideally not too bulky.

The Olympus will take better quality photos than the TZ60 and P900 as it has a much larger sensor. It depends on how close (macro) what zoom range, budget and how large your canvas prints are going to be?
Which would be best for a learner and take the best photos, this or rx100
Hi guys, what I'm trying to work out is, Nikon 900 is more expensive but i don't need to carry 2 lenses and keep swapping. both take great photos, if I can afford Nikon, is it better to buy that, I know nothing about cameras and really need advice, Holiday snaps in New York, beach photos, family events, kids parties, etc. Which camera is best for me?

Hi, the P900 has a massive zoom range but it's image quality is limited by the smaller sensor. Have a look at the Sony RX10 or the Panasonic FZ1000 these have a much larger 1" sensor but also have a good zoom range, both are available for around £440 at the moment (search on HUKD). The Sony is better built and weather sealed the Panasonic has a longer zoom.
Hi TK42, Thanks for your help and advice, I will search for them now. Cheers Pat.
Ask yourself what you want from your images, and then the answer will come.

For myself, I found the epl-5 a joy. The image quality is excellent, certainly on par with most aps-c efforts. The epl-6 shares most of the same attributes and both lenses are great. Any dslr will be bigger, and Sony lenses are more expensive and there are fewer options available.

This is a cracking bargain

Having a wider aperture (lower number e.g. f/1.8) makes the photo have a shallow depth of field so the background is blurry (bokeh).

You can achieve a bokeh/shallow depth of field effect with f/3.5:
photo.stackexchange.com/que…max
You can get a lens for any DSLR /CSC that has a wider aperture. This will use the four thirds lenses (Olympus/Panasonic) e.g.

Olympus Zuiko M. ED 45mm f/1.8 (£175)

Or you can get a Nikon D3300 for £284 with VR II lens + Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G Lens for an extra (£130) or one without a focus motor (you have to focus manually) for £98

If you won't use the kit lens much you can also get the D3300 with a non VR II lens for £254

The reason why I added LondonCameraExchange links is because they offer a free Nikon Accesory Kit which comes with a bag, spare battery and cleaning pen

Can I ask, which is best, I'm buying a camera, I would like to have good zoom, it doesn't have to reach the moon, and also good close up photos, kids parties, blowing out candles, etc. Is there a big difference in Panasonic, Tz60 Tz70 and Fz200. Is fz 200 best?
