Had my eye on this for a while and was waiting for a code I could use towards it. Very decent spec for the money and IMO a better option than the Dells due to the better screen. Only downside for me is lack of upgradability, alsonot sure how loud/hot it will get as seems to be quite slim considering how much they've squeezed in.

No it's a Pascal series GPU (1050 Ti), good gaming performance for a laptop.
No.
office word etc?
absolutely yes. however if that's all you would be doing with it i'd suggest something way more basic/cheaper
how is that even possible when the 1050ti was announced in January of 2017? Research pls
Think he is being sarcastic
This HP for £479 at John Lewis would perhaps be a better buy. Most of the additional cost is due to the graphics card performance.
From the page:
nah be useless, need about 16bb Ram, 8gb graphics card, and a hexacore 4ghz processor and of course 32bit windows X)
Also, would I be better off going for a 1060 for the graphics? Would that future proof me a bit more?
I watched a review on Mobile Tech Review last week which was comparing the latest laptops - think it was a high-end HP versus the 15 inch Dell XPS. In passing they suggested that there are several types of 1050 cards in top end laptops currently but that some of them are pretty "blah" as they are just basic versions.
There was also a post on here a few weeks back where someone pointed out that now is the wrong time to buy a ne whigh-end laptop as there is a lot of new tech coming out in the Summer. I got the impression that waiting a few months made sense if paying a load of money for a high-end laptop.
The Mobile Tech Review also pointed out that the high-end Dells do not currently come with the latest HDMI standard which is incapable of powering 4K external monitors.
Hope this helps.
what versions other than 1050 and 1050ti?
someone always says wait
There will always be something new in a few months time, but there aren't any significant breakthroughs due, at least not that anyone knows about.
The 1050ti is a good step up in performance from the old 950/960 that was used in lower end gaming orientated machines, and exceeds the 970m that was used in higher end machines, whilst using less power.
This is a nicely balanced machine, in my opinion, and a decent price based in the spec and extra controller.
AKA it's HP so basically no warranty at all.
I'm the same. Plus these Omens have notoriously bad displays. If you're buying a new laptop in 2017 it really should be a little future proof with USB C.
Edit- They're also getting posted every few days and the only laptops to gain heat. It's a bit fishy to me but I'm sure everything is above board.
The latest iterations have very decent IPS displays (don't know about previous version). Good viewing angles nice bright, sharp colours - could be brighter, yes - (you need brightness turned to between 70% - 100% for it to look this good admittedly) but they certainly do not have "bad" displays - I know because I have one :-)
The OP's comment about the screen isn't accurate refer to the review on notebookcheck.net. The HP screen is very average as far as IPS's go, yeh obviously good viewing angles etc but that's the case for any IPS!
Also the comparison the OP drew with the Dell/Alienware deals is his initial post and their screens is wrong, they have a much higher Brightness and greater SRGB/Adobe RGB coverage check notebook check as well for their review of the Alienware 15r3
haha
Not having a laptop/PC at all is a better option to having a Dell X)
Yet another better deal here. You only to wait 3 weeks after the other Omen thread! X)
Lord help us all
Good job HP make more than one laptop.
different deal - different time
same crap from you though
Still a better deal though!
You would have paid £830 for one of these if I hadn't told you to be patient! X)
hotukdeals.com/dea…078
why do you bother repeating the same old crap?
i wouldn't have paid anything for any of these as the screen isn't good enough
you always compare the 'new' deal with a bad 'old' deal
in short you are taking rubbish
if someone wants a deal now then a deal in a week is useless as the rest of your 'help'
the other points i made correcting you.. you just ignored ofc
You sarcastically asked for a better deal than that £900 i5/1050 in response to me saying that there were better deals to be had and that you should be patient!
I posted 3 links to better deals, and this thread has a better deal still!
Q.E.D. X)
you posted irrelevant links, failed to find a better deal BUT!!! crossed your fingers that one day laptop prices would drop... wow that is some foresight indeed
anyway as you fail to talk any sense or address any of your other errors i guess you have nothing to add
...so i guess i'll see you trolling in the next thread
Trolling? Weren't you the one that got suspended? X)
PS. Q.E.D. in relation to the better laptop deals ;-)
it is a decent spec for the price, more than decent
the screen is what you are going to look at though the whole time is it not?
its not being a fanboy - its being realistic
